  • Great little hand planer for fitting planks
The blade arrived sharp enough to remove see through shavings. It is the perfect size to fit my hand for the task I purchased it for. I have been building cedar/pine cat houses and planter boxes. This plane was needed to get super tight fits of the side planks and it serves that purpose wonderfully. Solid construction, It feels like it will last my lifetime. I found the blade aligns well, but care must be taken when tightening the lock nut to ensure everything stays aligned. Have used a dozen hand planes over the decades and this tends to be a decent one. I feel this is a good value. ... show more

  • Quality at an affordable price point
I have restored more than 100 hand planes in my time. I currently own just about every maker of quality planes from LN, Veritas, WoodRiver, Millers Falls, and 100 year old Stanleys etc. This little plane does not disappoint. I did not want to spend $150+ on a block plane, so at this significantly lower price the Jorgensen exceeded my expectations. It was dead flat out of the box (perfectly flat!) and reasonably sharp enough to make decent shavings. The blade sits well and the feel in the hand is solid. After cleaning up some rough edges from the milling process and applying a secondary bevel to the cutting edge it works flawlessly. I will be looking to add more of the Jorgensen planes to my current line up because of the quality not just because of the affordable price. In fact, I recently sold my WoodRiver low angle block plane because it was simply too big for what I needed. After purchasing this and the Jorgensen 60 1/2, I am thoroughly pleased with the outcome. ... show more

  • Great Block Plane!
This little block plane is perfect for chamfering edges or hand planing a small board. It's comfortable to hold and use. The adjustment wheel works well to hold the plane blade in place. It's fairly sharp out of the box. Though I'll be sharpening and stropping it soon to enhance the edge. The bright orange paint will help it stand out amongst other items on my workbench. So far it's fun to use and seems to be durable / made well. ... show more

  • Great Little Plane
This works really well. Out of the box, the sole was dead flat according to a straight edge. Nevertheless, I marked up the sole with a Sharpie and sanded it with sandpaper on my table saw top. Yep, the black lines evenly wore away. I then moved on to diamond stones to clean it up a bit, then took out the blade. It's pretty sharp out of the box, and touching up the back of the blade was quickly done with a diamond stone. A little work on the bevel and some stropping, then testing on a scrap of hard maple. This easily put a nice chamfer, even across the grain. Removal and adjustment of the blade's really simple. Just loosen the big knob a bit, then turn the back knob to move the blade forward and back. Loosening it a bit more allows the cap to come out and the blade to be removed. ... show more

  • Nice repro of Millers Falls №55
This is a block plane so I'm not getting into flat soles and iron honing angles, there's more than enough of that online. This is basically a modern version of a Millers Falls block plane, but with low angle iron bedding. It's a great tool once you tune it up a little. Great casting, super machine work, thicker than original iron, make this plane a great value. Out of the box this required under 40 minutes of tuning before I could take (.003) thick maple shavings. The blade is ground sharp but absolutely requires honing. Great pocket plane for the money, feels good in my hand. ... show more

  • Great compact wood planer
I love this compact planer. It is hard to tell from the pic, but this planer is about half the size of a normal block planer, or maybe even smaller than that. The blade is about 1 inch wide. It works great for tight spaces and tasks such as trimming dowels flush with the surface. Despite its small size, the body of the plan it heavy and feels like cast iron. It is not a toy by any means, but instead is a well made tool. It is easy to set the blade depth and easy to use the tool. It is a great value for the money. ... show more
