Description

I read the reviews on this lamp prior to purchase. Some of the information was helpful, but some inaccurate. The lamp shade IS glass, not plastic. The black lines connecting the pieces are called soldering not glue. It is normal for it to show, you should worry if it doesn’t. I appreciated the comments about how difficult some found it to line up the pole pattern when assembling the lamp. That fore knowledge was helpful. The pictures posted were also very helpful. I have been looking and pricing lamps for a couple of years. This lamp has one of the prettiest bases and lamp poles I have seen. The bases are heavy enough to protect the lamp from tipping (with stain glass that matters). I bought four of these lamps, and with care, we were able to line up the pole pattern perfectly on each. These lamps make a statement, and are much more impressive in person than the Amazon listing can show. They have an art deco vibe. The colors are beautiful. There is always a certain amount of variation in the color/patterns of the glass being used. Because I needed four, I was worried that the lamps might not match. Happily, I was worried for nothing. In my opinion, these lamps are a quality product. I was able to get them at such a great price, that I am still a bit shocked. This fixture was extremely easy to assemble. In order for it to ship easily, the lamp comes unassembled, meaning that the lamppost is in three separate pieces, in addition to the base and the Peacock light fixture at the top. And when I put it together (in less than ten minutes) you would barley notice the connection seams on the lamp post! ... show more

I really want to give this 3.5 stars, but that is not an option. First the good.: I saw this in the photos and thought, oh, stunning, and what a deal! Though to me, almost $150 is still not my idea of inexpensive but I realize that quality items cost something and that really, for a truly well made lamp this really is not that much money. But what threw me was the listed price of closer to $250; the item was discounted and because of this I believed the quality might be higher after all. I read, read some more, and decided to roll the dice. As the photo shows, I was looking to illuminate an odd place in my home and seen from some paces away, the lamp is beautiful. The detail on the base and the old fashioned wrapped cord with a foot switch are a nice touch. I will keep it, because its shortcomings do not justify returning it and I realized I was not purchasing from Tiffany & Co. The assembly of the lamp was easy enough. It was packaged well in terms of protecting the lamp contents but the packaging was in some ways amateurish; like someone had a packing tape party and a kind of styrofoam was used that covered me and half my sofa in tiny balls of styrofoam...not appreciated. The glass shade was well protected and arrived fully intact. This is a small point but I'm going there: The description says: "Each shade is hand-made by artisans who specialize in the intricate art of stained glass soldering." That may be, and if that is the case, it is some of the sloppiest artisanal work on the planet. You may be based in Soho, New York, O Designer Jonathan, but when I read the directions that came with your product and found that they were obviously written by a non-native speaker of English in the dialect fondly dubbed 'Chinrish' by those who know and love it, I think you are going a little too far to ramble on about 'bespoke lampshades' and artisanal stained glass. Let's move on now to that 'barley-twist base'. A lot of effort clearly went into the design aspect of this lamp so why on earth did you create a situation in which the joints, once united, look like they do as in my photo above? What is really being seen is that a spacer that is between each post section (likely to prevent the consumer from ruining the post section by accidental overtightening) came with most of the paint having fallen off due to an incompatibility with the metal in question...and yet no one could figure this out prior to releasing the product? In daylight, this flaw is VERY noticeable. I'm an artist, I have all manner of fillers and paints, colored waxes and assorted..things, and I will research what can be done to hide these defects but this is a real pratfall. Had this issue not existed, I would not have started nitpicking at the other problems but it did and it is the first thing one sees when looking at the lamp; the eye tracks straight to these three ugly...uglinesses. Had I paid 'full price', i.e. almost $250 for the lamp and then had this happen my pen would have really sharpened its nib. Get all these problems ironed out and I think you will have a product earning lots of 5 star reviews. ... show more

The colors of the lamp are a bit softer than what is shown on the sales picture, but that is -- I think -- a plus. This is a heavy base lamp, with a silk cord. When in the last time you have seen a silk cord on a lamp under $500? It's an extra long cord, too, allowing you to position the lamp where you need. It is not a small Torchiere, but full-size lamp shade, only with the extra solid base you don't have to worry about the weight of the large shade accidentally tipping it over. The shade is true glass (PLEASE handle it carefully, when unpacking, as with all stained glass shades they are softish and easily cracked). It secures to the base in a solid fashion and illuminated the room with plenty of light, without it being direct or harsh. They are really a showcase lamp worth the money. The only complaint I might make, it's just a bit tricky to align the swirls on the poles. One is perfect, but second lamp was a bit harder. Shipped well-packed to protect them. ... show more

This is A Nice Lamp. Superior Packaging. This takes some thought to unpack. Flat on the floor and several feet of clearance space. Assembly is easy & the shade is Heavily Protected. I'm Very Pleased.
