Description

The Jonard Tools patented and award-winning MS-6 Mid span slitter is designed to open fiber Jackets and provide easy access to optical fibers in loose buffer tubes with 1.2 - 3.3 mm diameter. With 6 precision grooves to handle various cable sizes, The sleek ergonomic design allows you to open a fiber jacket or buffer tube without damaging the fiber. This tool is designed for use on the ofs ez-bend 3.0 mm cable and works great on PPC semi-flex 3 mm cables. It also works on Corning's outdoor Altos loose tube, microduct minixtend HD and minixtend cable with binder less fast-access technology, ofs ez-bend 3.0 mm cables, and on their indoor/outdoor freedom and LSZH loose tube cables having 1.4, 1.7, 2.5 mm buffer tubes. Replacement blades (part : msb-1533) can be purchased separately.

I really love this tool, HOWEVER, I did not get even 100 uses, maybe not even 50 uses when the blade broke off one side of the slitting side and rendered the tool useless for me. It struggles so bad to fit CommScope 48ct that I continue to enter the old fashioned way, although it works great on corning fast access even makes the fast access a little faster. But having a blade break out in mid-slit when I haven't even hit 10% of lifetime usage has me rethinking my over priced donation to Jonard. ... show more

This tool is a lot more practical than the combo one due to its bulkiness. I have bought 4 of these exact tools so far for myself and team. Might buy another just to set up a spare tool kit as we do a lot of fiber to the home work for a couple different providers. I have used it well over 200x and no sign of any blade wear issues but it is only the fiber buffer being cut so it should hold up for a long time. I use another Jonard tool in tandem with this to cut the ring. ... show more

I am what you call a novice fiber splicer, but I do coordinate a lot of production splicers. We have probably ran into every kind of fiber manufacturer out there. I am continuously borrowing out this tool to production splicers because they don't ever seem to have the correct mid sheath tool which can cost upward of 1000.00 dollars or more. My biggest problem with this tool seem to be getting it back from the production splicers before they leave town.The only problem I have had is sometimes the latch will pop open, I'm sure this is because of the way I'm holding it. Anyhow for the price no splicer should be without it because it sure can come in handy. Just make sure the tube is snug but slides smoothly and apply continuous pressure while holding the tool closed, "don't trust the latch". ... show more
