  • Heavy, well made, works great, and a pleasure to install
Size: 20 Feet Color: Yellow
Some products look like a simple, great idea until you start to install it, and then you find out it's a nightmare and a joke. Not the case for this threshold seal! It's a simple product, the kit is complete, and it's easily installed for anyone with even modest abilities. Once it's done it works in combination with your door's attached bottom seal to provide a positive, airtight, sure seal, even if as in my case, the bottom of the door does not sit perfectly flush to the concrete slab of the garage floor on both sides! As for the installation, all I did was look at the pictures in the Amazon listing and do as shown without even bothering with the instruction sheet. I used a leaf blower and broom to clean the slab off where the seal will go. Then simply unroll the seal and lay it out flat, -then with the garage door open a few feet, set one end of the seal up against the door's roller channel on one side of the door and place the entire threshold in the approximate position it will lay. Now you can just eyeball where it will need to be cut, or you can measure and mark before cutting if you feel it necessary. Cut it to the right length so it fits between the door roller rails on either side of the garage door. Once it's cut to proper length, roll the door down almost all the way so it sets on the seal but you can slide the seal around to "fine tune" where the final position will be. You want the top (highest part of the seal) just inside the door. Now just roll the door down until it's just over the seal. The yellow "safety marking" on top makes a handy visual aid for aligning things so the seal is perfectly straight/parallel to the garage door. With the position of the seal "95% there" I walked outside to double check that the edge of the seal that was visible outside looked straight/parallel to the door out there as well, and repeated the process a couple of times just to make sure that everything looked good from both sides. I then closed the door completely on the seal to ensure everything was fitting snug between the door's bottom seal and the new threshold seal. If you're anal like me, you can walk inside and out multiple times just to be sure that everything is "just so", closing the door and re-adjusting several times. In the end, I found that basically it pretty much just lines itself up when the door is closed and all you gotta do is align the yellow stripe so it's a consistent distance from the door from one side of the door to the other. (Seems to end up with the stripe about 3/16" to a quarter inch from the door). That done, I rolled the door up and grabbed a permanent marker (the only things not included in the kit are a marker and something to cut the seal to length. In fairness, they also didn't include the oxygen I was breathing while I installed it, and I didn't expect them to provide air, so I'm calling it a complete kit!) Then being careful not to move the threshold while marking, just mark on the garage floor along both sides of the seal. Pull the seal away from the lines, run beads of the included sealant in between the lines you made, place the seal back down between the lines, and you're done! For my 16 foot door I only needed about one and a half of the two tubes of silicone included, and even using that much was almost overkill. Two tubes is probably plenty for a 20 foot door. A note about the silicon sealant included and the threshold itself: The sealant is not like silicon caulking. It's a very thick, very sticky SEALANT. I got a little on my hands and was worried about needing gas or paint thinner to clean up but to my surprise it actually washed off with soap and water, but it sure doesn't SEEM like any sort of wimpy water-based stuff! It's really a top quality sealant from what I can tell. The threshold itself is HEAVY, high quality, thick rubber and you aren't going to cut it with the wife's kitchen scissors, so you'll need something heavier duty to cut it than scissors, -which is a plus in my opinion. I cannot say how well it will hold down over time, but I can say that the finished installation seems very durable, and the threshold is heavy enough that I would expect that if or when the sealant might let go, it would be a simple matter of putting down new goop and setting it again. That said, -Depending on how klutzy I or my family are and how many times we kick it when we forget to pick up our feet, I'm guessing that the original sealant will last a good long time! Cons: I can't think of any. Pros: Really nice to buy something this well done. 5 stars. No bull. ... show more

  • A Very Good Product
Size: 20 Feet Color: Yellow
Pretty good product. I bought a 20' roll to do my two 8' wide doors. It wasn't too challenging to install; and I'm one of those anal DIY guys too. I did used a string-line from the garage door frames on the front side and penciled the back side for the location I wanted. The garage door closed on the barrier just in front of the high point on the slope downward. The cutting trimming took some time because I fitted the side-ends to extend into and under the door railing tracks to get full coverage. I will caulk these ends for a total seal later. I used a pair of Wiss 9-3/4" aviation type snips for the cutting. I was concerned about the black adhesive being a mess and pushing out along the edges, so I did about a 3/16" thick bead the full length about 1" inside of the long edges, front and back, and a 1/4" bead down the middle. That gave me a tiny bit of oozing of the glue in a couple of spots. To pressure it down and hold in place, I used a 4x4x8' wood board along the inside and a 2x4 stud on the outside with bricks on the top for weight, keeping my eye on the string-line for alignment. The adhesive gave me plenty of time to position the barrier before beginning to set. After two hours I removed the boards and bricks and closed the door on the barrier for the night. When I install my second door barrier I will add some photos to this review with an update. ... show more

  • Good product
Size: 20 Feet Color: Yellow
I put this under my shop doors and it was pretty easy to do. I would suggest letting it lay flat in the sun for a while to get the roll out of it. I had to put weight on one end to keep it down. I would also suggest to start with the doors down so you can line it up correctly. I had to move it around a bit after marking it out and putting the glue down. It wasn't a big deal, but certainly something I'd do differently. I was able to use only one tube of glue, which will allow me to use the other as a spare. I think I went a bit too heavy with the first half and it squeezed out the sides. When I tried to walk/step on the strip to make sure it was all the way down, it slid around a bunch with too much glue under it. I've had it down for a few days now and had to pressure wash/scrub the ship floor. I squeegeed the water out over the strip and it held down well. I guess I'll see how well it holds up over time, but happy with it so far. ... show more

  • Easy to install, but clear silicone would have been better
Size: 10 Feet Color: Black
Easy to cut and install. The only downside is the black silicone sealer they ship with it to secure it in place. I would have been happier with clear, or with instructions to apply painter’s tape to either side of the threshold before putting it in place. Granted: it’s a garage, but I would have been happier if there was a crisp line rather than the black squeeze-out… I any case, I’m hoping it will make up for the garage door installers having set the latch too low to properly load the door seal. Next rain: we shall see! ... show more

  • Installation Tips
Size: 16 Feet Color: Black
The product pleasantly surpassed my expectations. It was easy to install, but you need to know a couple of tips: 1) Lay it out flat for a day to remove any curl from shipping 2) Use LESS adhesive than you expect. I only used half the tube. Too much and it oozes out the sides and looks bad 3) The adhesive is black and STICKY and stains hands. Wear gloves. 4) It can be cut with a razor to perfectly fit in your garage opening 5) A chalk line helps lay it straight. 6) Lay it where you want it and PULL to straighten it out. It’s been working well to make a tight seal with my garage door to keep out bugs, drafts, and water. ... show more

  • Strongly built, you get more value with
Size: 20 Feet Color: Yellow
Arrived on time and a great value for the money. I like that it’s made strong and installs easy. Works for under my garage door to keep out rain and helps keeping leaves out some too. I have priced at local hardware stores inferior to this for more money. I would buy again.
