This is a great woofer for the money! Typically for JBL its tone is warm and deep and it works well with my Polk speakers. They are not fancy but their warmer tone works well with this woofer. The unit is not as tight as a Klipsch, which is better for music IMO, but is better for low rumbles of thunder etc in a theater setting. I am using this in a 500 sf model railroad room for 'weather ambient sounds' with 15' ceilings. It's rattling the walls! The build quality is outstanding and innovative with some nice details like a magnetic cover and hidden JBL orange accents on the feet and behind the screen. The veneer is beautiful and it's packaged like they expect it to drop from a plane. Very impressed! ... show more

My experience might just be a fluke. Maybe I received the 1 out of 100 bad ones. Or these are a bad design. This was the fourth subwoofer I've ever bought. I have 2 full surround sound stereo systems in my home. Normally I set the volume knob just below half way on my subwoofer and that is perfect for most listening experiences. When I first tried the JBL 220P on my stereo, I set the volume where I Normally would. I could hear no audible bass but, when I touched the speaker I could feel it moving. I moved the volume knob to 2 o'clock and still nothing. At 3/4 volume i could finally hear bass from my normal listening position. At full volume it still didn't seem like it sounded like a subwoofer at max volume. Like I said. I'm not sure if I simply got a bad one or this is how these are designed to work. I decided to send it back and try a different brand. Normally JBL makes good stuff but I'm not taking a chance on another one of these. ... show more

Very low-end frequency response that nothing else I see can match. I am more of a JBL fan anyway. The grill is a simple magnetic snap. I just need a time when the family is out of the house to really hear what the system sounds like with this big addition.

Other customers should know that this speaker has a very rich bass sound but even though it is a JBL speaker it will not hook up with other JBL sound bar systems. It definitely is a nice piece of furniture.

Does not punch as hard as my 15y/o klipsch subwoofer. Was disappointed but decided to keep due to its purchase price during Black Friday. Also shipping was delayed twice from fedex.
