  • Great for RV and Boat use during winter storage, but not cheap and does use power
UPDATE: After 1 year of use I had a recent power outage due to the Hurricane Isias and the dehumidifier has failed. The manual states not to shut power off without letting it go through it's cool down phase and I suspect this has killed the heating element. If you lose power or accidentally pull the plug on this you'll probably damage it. This doesn't work for me as I lose power often, but other than this design flaw this has been a great dehumidifier. I called Ivation and they were kind enough to send me a full refund due to "quality control" issues. I've only had this 13 pint dessicant dehumidifier for a few weeks but so far I love it, here's why. Pro's- 1. On HIGH it is very effective at quickly (almost instantly) reducing humidity levels in my 24' RV (~130 sq. ft.) 2. It works well in cold temps down to 33F (auto shut off at 33F). At 48F my compressor unit froze up instantly. 3. It's functions are simple but very useful and it maintains target RH very well. (I set to 55%) 4. Although I haven't connected it yet, it has a continuous drain option that eliminates emptying collection tray. 5. It has a motorized vent that varies direction up and down which increases the airflow dramatically. 6. On LOW the fan noise is barely audible, although it doesn't dehumidify as well as on HIGH. 7. It's small size and light weight make it very easy to move around and I'm considering a permanent spot for it. Cons- 1. On HIGH it uses almost as much power (470W) as my compressor unit (690W), which is alot. LOW uses 280W. 2. On HIGH the fan is noticeable, (not excessively loud). About the same as a Fantastic Vent Fan on Low. 3. The price is a bit high. This unit cost about the same as my compressor unit which is 3 times the capacity. Other- 1. Durability is unknown. I haven't had it long enough to provide any details. So far it works great. 2. I've heard others causing damage to the rotor by moving the unit with it running, which seems temperamental. 3. It does add an insignificant amount of heat which is perfectly fine for me (even a bonus in winter). 4. The unit has a small internal heating element that gets VERY hot. Time will tell how durable this design is. Summary- Only a few weeks in but I love this dehumidifier even though it wasn't cheap and uses significant power, it works very well in cold damp conditions. Due to the small size and weight I'm considering a permanent spot for it where I can mount it with the continuous drain outside and leave it in the rig. There aren't many other options for cold weather dehumidifiers and so far I highly recommend. I'll update over the coming seasons. ... show more

  • A literal game changer for RV life in the PNW
This little powerhouse keeps my RV bone dry here in the humid PNW winter. It does put out a little heat, which has typically been a good thing this fall. The only time that's been an issue is when it's a particularly warm day. But because the dehume does such a great job the rest of the time, it's fine to let the humidity climb for those few warmer hours so it doesn't get overly warm in here. (It'd likely be too warm to use in the summer, but we don't really have humid summers here, so I don't see that being an issue.) I also don't leave it on overnight, and it takes less than an hour on high to drop the overnight humidity from 70 to <50. Then I just set the humidity level I want, leave this baby on low, then forget about it. It's pretty quiet; obviously the high setting is louder, like a rude fan, but low is very forgettable. One of my cats gets constant-noise fatigue, and this doesn't seem to bother him—and he goes to hide when I use the vent over the stove. So I consider his opinion of the sound a key endorsement. I did experience a rattle for a while after moving it while it was running, but since I stopped trying to move it while it was running and gave it a few kind words, the rattle has disappeared. There is a unique smell at first; I ran it outside for the first half hour or so. Then it dissipated after a few days. Sometimes I still smell it when I run it on high in the morning, but once it's brought the humidity down, the smell is gone. I'm pretty sensitive to smells, but I've grown accustomed to it. Now it just smells like dry! I can't recommend this little unit enough to RV full-timers in colder humid zones. As I said in the title of this review, it really has been a game changer. ... show more

  • This Thing WORKS
Bought this to use in cooler temps (mid-50's to mid-60's) in our travel trailer and it has exceeded my expectations with its performance. We often camp near water or in forests and after spending a night inside, our windows would be totally covered with condensation. With this on, the condensation on the inside of the windows is greatly reduced. There's still a bit of moisture on the glass, but at least we can again having a clear view of the outside world in the morning. It does draw about 400 watts which is too much for us to run on our battery bank with an inverter, so its use is restricted to when we have the generator running or have an electrical hookup. It also produces a small amount of warmth (not enough to call it 'heat') when running, but I view that as a side-benefit since it's generally on the cool side when we're using it. It's lightweight and easy to lift and move about with the built-in handle and the tank is super-easy to remove and dump when needed. But the most important thing to know is this product removes moisture from the air in a very effective fashion with a minimum of noise. Highly recommend it for RV usage. ... show more
