So first - a complaint about iRobot. 4 or 5 years ago I purchased their flagship model, the S9+. Good robot, it did a great job. My complaint is that as parts wore out, they stopped selling replacement parts. I needed drive wheels. Because of the structure of the docking station the worn wheels would not allow it to dock to recharge or empty without giving it a little bump with your foot. This obviously means that the robot is no longer autonomous. Their solution to me was to send the robot for repair for $100 (at least). Do better iRobot. That out of the way, this made me buy another robot. I liked my S9+ so I decided to give iRobot another chance. So- the initial review. This robot is heads and shoulders above the S9+ that it replaces. I live in a one bedroom apartment… 1. Setup - setup (for me) was relatively simple and painless. I have seen some complaints that setup and documentation was confusing. I think if this your first robot I would agree. The problem is that there is no hard copy of the owner’s manual. The manual resides within the app itself. So this is a different interface app than the one used with my older S9+. The new app does not seem to be quite as intuitive as the older app. For me (experienced) the learning curve was relatively painless. In some ways it is an improvement. Now you can touch a room on the map to have the robot clean that space without the need to go through a separate menu. From there you can easily make adjustments to the “routine.” Also welcome is that you can watch the realtime progress of the routine that you are running. It’s a little mesmerizing to watch. This function looks fairly accurate but there is sometimes some lag. Finally, there is a numerical indicator of charge state instead of a progress bar. 2. Speed - the Max 705 mapped my apartment within 10 minutes. This is significantly faster than the S9+. There were some initial hiccups but today I ran my first automated run. It vacuumed 6 spaces in 1 hour and 1 minute with no recharging. At the end of its run there was still 46% charge left. I don’t know how to account for this as the robot doesn’t seem to be moving any faster than the S9+. It must just run its routes more efficiently. For comparison, my old S9+ took three to four hours to complete the same run and at least one or two recharges (even on a brand new battery). This is amazing to me. 3. Compared to my older S9+ the Max 705 is dead quiet at least on smart mode. Even on max suction setting it is considerably quieter than the S9+. 4. So far there have been minor glitches while running its routes, i.e. going to the bedroom instead of the living room. That happened once but did not repeat. In my experience, the more vacuums under your belt the more it learns and the better it becomes. The brush came off. In the S9+ you would actually screw the brush on. On the Max 705 the brush just snaps on. Hopefully this was a one off. Even though I didn’t want to get a new robot I was able to get this on sale. This is a definite improvement over the S9+. So far so good!

I've owned two other iRobot vacuums for a total of seven years. The vacuums did a great job of picking up dog hair, and when I called support, there was usually someone available to help me. After hours of research and buying another vacuum that I sent back because it couldn't pick up dog hair. I decided the 705 was the best solution for dog hair. After seven years of experience with iRobot, I was confident that setting up would be easy. It was a nightmare. I spent 2 hours trying to connect the robot to my Wi-Fi. I checked to make sure the next work was on 2.4. I rebooted the router and the extensions. I rebooted the robot per the app's guidance. I did everything I could think of before calling support. I knew I could be on hold for quite a while, depending on the calls in the queue. When I called support, they had me do some of the things I had done, and still no wifi connection. The support person put me on hold more than once while working on a solution. When he came back from hold, he asked if I had a special character in my router password. I said I did. He told me that the problem was the NEW and IMPROVED app won't connect to wifi if the password has special characters. I told him I've been using the same password with two other iRobots for seven years. He told me they are working on a solution. I was Livid!! Most companies want a special character in the password. This company releases a new app, but it can't accept special characters. I had spent hours trying to connect to Wi-Fi because a software programmer couldn't solve the problem. I wanted to share my frustration with management. I ended up with Maria P. She was on the escalation team. I asked her for the marketing, sales, or engineering leader. She would not give me a name. Her customer service, empathy, and compassion for my frustration were pathetic. The decision was to send it back or remove the special character from the router password and reconnect all 16 devices in my home.

I am happy to add another Roomba to the mix. I recently moved to a larger space with multiple levels, and I had wanted to get another Roomba for a while, but the robot vacuum market has become so overwhelming. So far, I'm happy with the Roomba Max 705 as my newest robovac addition. What I love: - The robovac is great at tidying up my shepherd husky's fur, which seems to coat the entire floor within hours. - This Roomba is sleek and navigates well, seemingly more smoothly and agilely than my previous Roomba. - The design is clean and updated. - The setup process was incredibly quick and easy. - The price point feel solid for the performance I've seen so far. What is interesting: - The talking, which you can likely turn off, is interesting, and I haven't formed a clear opinion on it yet. What could be improved: - The obstacle review process was actually easier for me in the old Roomba app than in the new one. Yes, I would recommend it.

Reviewing the Roomba Max 705, vacuum only (no mop.) We had a Roomba S9+ for years and overall it was a fine unit. Even replaced the tires after they wore out so we really pushed it hard. Eventually the navigation somehow became unreliable in that unit so it was time for something new. Initially tried a Dyson 360 but it has a small bin that is unsuitable for a household with pets (returned it.) Then got this Max 705 since it's vacuum only and it has been close to flawless! The only thing to watch for is creation of the initial Map: Start the process and then make sure to quit/kill the app while the robot runs. After it docks at the conclusion of initial mapping, give it 5 minutes before going back into the app for editing and zoning. Otherwise the app may fail to save the map (eg. if you go back and check on progress while it's running, or click around while it's still trying to save.) After mapping the roomba has performed well. It is fast, quiet, cleans effectively and object avoidance is intelligent. We have about 2300 sq ft of hardwood and carpet surfaces with three pets. This robot has performed well and looks like a keeper. Highly recommended!

The Roomba Max 705 provides a simple and automated cleaning experience that keeps your floors clean with very little effort. I loved how simple it was to setup right out of the box. I only needed to plug it in and put on the feeler brush. The app is very easy to use and the Roomba can map out your entire home so it knows the areas to vacuum more efficiently and accurately. I love how it sweeps the corners and edges of walls and furniture precisely. The vac has lights on it so when it is sweeping in dark areas, you know where it is at. The auto dumping feature is convenient so you don't have to constantly clean the vacuum. The battery life is more than enough for my tiny, 924sq ft home and can do the entire home several times a day if I wanted to on one charge but the auto docking keeps it topped off. The sound is okay, about the average noise any robot vacuums make. It has no problem navigating my house and avoiding snagging on my bedsheets/comforter, jackets, shoes, electrical cords, etc. The only two things I didn't like about this vacuum, is the feeler does come off sometimes when transitioning to carpet/rugs to tile or hard flooring. I think it comes on and off a little too easily. I am also a little disappointed that I will need to buy bags but this does keep everything more clean and less washing. Overall, this is an excellent robot vacuum that cleans exceptionally well with very little effort.

As the owner of two Golden Retrievers—both of whom shed like crazy—my biggest fear when buying a robot vacuum is tangling. This robot vacuum’s dual rubber anti-tangle brushes are practically tailor-made for pet households! With the brush-type vacuums I used before, I had to use a small knife to cut the hair off bit by bit after each use—it was both gross and time-consuming. But this machine’s brush design is ingenious—whether it’s long human hair or soft pet fur, it gets sucked straight out through the exhaust vent while the robot is running. When you take it apart, it’s practically spotless. Plus, with the automatic emptying dock, it seals up dozens of days’ worth of debris in a bag, truly achieving “zero-contact” cleanup. Its LiDAR navigation is incredibly precise—it doesn’t bump around aimlessly like a headless fly, and it skillfully navigates around dog bowls and cat trees. I highly recommend this to anyone tormented by pet hair—it’s money well spent! Plus, with thick wool carpets in my home, regular robot vacuums are practically just going through the motions; they can’t even pick up surface dust. But this model’s powerful suction truly blew me away! When it rolls onto the carpet, you can really feel the powerful suction. It pulls dust, crumbs, and even hair deep from the carpet fibers, making the carpet visibly fluffier and cleaner—it’s absolutely amazing!

Just do yourself a favor and stay away from iRobot / Roomba. We just bought two of these systems in August. One unit stopped running clean cycles a few weeks ago. It will move into an open space in my house, spin in circles, and throw an error that it is stuck under an object when nothing is anywhere nearby. After going through all the trouble shooting steps and doing a hard factory reset, I called into tech support. They now cannot get my Roomba to connect to my wifi and tell me it is my problem because my wifi password has 'special characters' (#, !, %, etc) that aren't allowed, even though my second unit is connected and runs fine on the same wifi and both ran fine on that password for nine months. They now demand that I change my password to a less secure one with no 'special characters', which will require also reconnecting every single device in my home under a new, less secure password, just so I can run the robot to reproduce the issue and video record it happening so they can go to the next step of their miserable tech support script. iRobot happily told me to go buy a new system from another company rather than offer any alternative to what is obviously not a solution to my problem. So I will. Good riddance, Roomba. I strongly urge anyone considering this brand to do yourself a favor and move along to someone else, as iRobot really doesn't care about anything but emptying your wallet for you.

Ran the new Roomba the first time today after yesterday’s exploratory run. Watched the exploratory run and I guess I didn’t understand what the unit was doing. It was like a human would do. It went into a room looked around. Then did the same in other rooms. I thought this is not going to work. Then today I turned it loose. It went to the farthest room from the dock and went to work. First it circled the room and then worked the entire room, not missing a spot. Then into the bedroom again vacuuming every where. I looked under the bed after it was done and didn’t even see a fuzz ball. Same with the other three bedrooms. Living room, under the couches, coffee tables every where. The machine is meticulous I am duly impressed. My old ( other brand) never was this thorough. I guess technology in room vacs has advanced like every thing else. Only one little complaint, it is a bit noisier than my last one but although the emptying is louder this unit blows the dust, pet hair and other debris into a bag so you don’t have to deal directly with the waste. Love that part. Battery lasted 2 and a half hours. Unit has no trouble finding and docking for a recharge.
