I have 2 large dogs that shed a lot! I was surprised at how much dog hair this little vacuum could pick up. Normally I have to empty my cannister vacuum several times for my 16x22 room that is both hardwood and carpet. This little vacuum manages to vacuum the room in one or two empties. I am amazed that the bag does last almost a month. It is great at getting the dog hair that is all along the baseboard. Set up and mapping is easy to do. Cons 1. when it empties the dust bin it is very noisy. The vacuuming is not very loud you can watch TV without any problem. But the minute or two for emptying the dust bin is horrible, no watching TV . For me it is worth it because it is only a minute or two. 2. It is very sensitive about going around items. This can be a good or bad thing. There is an area that Roomba cannot get to that the dog hair can. My spouse grabbed the ball of hair in placed it in the path of the Roomba. I think because the pile was tall the Roomba purposefully went around it. We also have an Eufy robot vacuum, in the same situation it sucked it right up. 3. Not truly a con but this Roomba is a little taller than most. It will not fit under my couch but does fit under kitchen chairs. I mentioned the Eufy robot vac. It too is a great machine. Very similar, same noise when emptying, gets up dog hair and has a lower profile that fits under the couch. It is cheaper so it definitely a unit to consider. However, the Eufy keeps pushing the boundary of the map and often gets stuck in the slider door track. It has also gone down the stairs which are blocked on the map. When time comes to replace one of these I'm not sure which one I will choose.

So first - a complaint about iRobot. 4 or 5 years ago I purchased their flagship model, the S9+. Good robot, it did a great job. My complaint is that as parts wore out, they stopped selling replacement parts. I needed drive wheels. Because of the structure of the docking station the worn wheels would not allow it to dock to recharge or empty without giving it a little bump with your foot. This obviously means that the robot is no longer autonomous. Their solution to me was to send the robot for repair for $100 (at least). Do better iRobot. That out of the way, this made me buy another robot. I liked my S9+ so I decided to give iRobot another chance. So- the initial review. This robot is heads and shoulders above the S9+ that it replaces. I live in a one bedroom apartment… 1. Setup - setup (for me) was relatively simple and painless. I have seen some complaints that setup and documentation was confusing. I think if this your first robot I would agree. The problem is that there is no hard copy of the owner’s manual. The manual resides within the app itself. So this is a different interface app than the one used with my older S9+. The new app does not seem to be quite as intuitive as the older app. For me (experienced) the learning curve was relatively painless. In some ways it is an improvement. Now you can touch a room on the map to have the robot clean that space without the need to go through a separate menu. From there you can easily make adjustments to the “routine.” Also welcome is that you can watch the realtime progress of the routine that you are running. It’s a little mesmerizing to watch. This function looks fairly accurate but there is sometimes some lag. Finally, there is a numerical indicator of charge state instead of a progress bar. 2. Speed - the Max 705 mapped my apartment within 10 minutes. This is significantly faster than the S9+. There were some initial hiccups but today I ran my first automated run. It vacuumed 6 spaces in 1 hour and 1 minute with no recharging. At the end of its run there was still 46% charge left. I don’t know how to account for this as the robot doesn’t seem to be moving any faster than the S9+. It must just run its routes more efficiently. For comparison, my old S9+ took three to four hours to complete the same run and at least one or two recharges (even on a brand new battery). This is amazing to me. 3. Compared to my older S9+ the Max 705 is dead quiet at least on smart mode. Even on max suction setting it is considerably quieter than the S9+. 4. So far there have been minor glitches while running its routes, i.e. going to the bedroom instead of the living room. That happened once but did not repeat. In my experience, the more vacuums under your belt the more it learns and the better it becomes. The brush came off. In the S9+ you would actually screw the brush on. On the Max 705 the brush just snaps on. Hopefully this was a one off. Even though I didn’t want to get a new robot I was able to get this on sale. This is a definite improvement over the S9+. So far so good!

I've owned two other iRobot vacuums for a total of seven years. The vacuums did a great job of picking up dog hair, and when I called support, there was usually someone available to help me. After hours of research and buying another vacuum that I sent back because it couldn't pick up dog hair. I decided the 705 was the best solution for dog hair. After seven years of experience with iRobot, I was confident that setting up would be easy. It was a nightmare. I spent 2 hours trying to connect the robot to my Wi-Fi. I checked to make sure the next work was on 2.4. I rebooted the router and the extensions. I rebooted the robot per the app's guidance. I did everything I could think of before calling support. I knew I could be on hold for quite a while, depending on the calls in the queue. When I called support, they had me do some of the things I had done, and still no wifi connection. The support person put me on hold more than once while working on a solution. When he came back from hold, he asked if I had a special character in my router password. I said I did. He told me that the problem was the NEW and IMPROVED app won't connect to wifi if the password has special characters. I told him I've been using the same password with two other iRobots for seven years. He told me they are working on a solution. I was Livid!! Most companies want a special character in the password. This company releases a new app, but it can't accept special characters. I had spent hours trying to connect to Wi-Fi because a software programmer couldn't solve the problem. I wanted to share my frustration with management. I ended up with Maria P. She was on the escalation team. I asked her for the marketing, sales, or engineering leader. She would not give me a name. Her customer service, empathy, and compassion for my frustration were pathetic. The decision was to send it back or remove the special character from the router password and reconnect all 16 devices in my home.

Setup: Right out of the box, setup is straightforward. You just place the dock on a flat surface near a wall outlet and plug it in. Then put the Roomba on the dock to charge. That's it for the physical setup. The whole process takes maybe 5 minutes. One thing to note — the owner's manual isn't a paper booklet. All the instructions live inside the app, so download that first. App Setup: Download the iRobot app on your phone. It walks you through everything step by step. Once you connect the Roomba to your WiFi, it does its first mapping run on its own. It uses LiDAR technology to scan every room. On smaller homes it maps in about 10 minutes. Larger homes take a bit longer but it still finishes fast. After mapping, the app shows you a layout of your home. You can rename rooms, merge rooms together, or split them apart right in the app. It's easy to adjust. Once you've reviewed the map, the robot is ready to clean. Scheduling: This is one of the best parts. In the app, you can set specific days and times for the robot to run automatically. You pick which rooms to clean and when. The app also sends you notifications. It tells you when cleaning is done, if the robot gets stuck, or if there's any issue that needs your attention. You can also tap a specific room on the map in the app and send the robot there immediately, no digging through menus. Cleaning: The suction is strong. It pulls up a surprising amount of pet hair and fine dust from carpets, especially stuff my old vacuum used to miss. The rubber brushes are a big deal, hair doesn't wrap around them the way it does on older models. It gets under furniture and beds without any problem. The dock automatically empties the robot's bin after each cleaning session. You don't have to touch it for weeks. The LiDAR takes care of the large things in your home. Things like walls, furniture, chair legs, and the couch. It sees them and steers around them no problem. Roomba Max 705 also has a built-in smart system called PrecisionVision AI. Think of it as a second set of eyes that looks for smaller things on the floor. Bottom Line: Setup takes minutes. The app is intuitive. Scheduling is flexible and actually works. The cleaning is strong. If you have pets or a busy home, this is well worth it.

The Roomba Max 705 provides a simple and automated cleaning experience that keeps your floors clean with very little effort. I loved how simple it was to setup right out of the box. I only needed to plug it in and put on the feeler brush. The app is very easy to use and the Roomba can map out your entire home so it knows the areas to vacuum more efficiently and accurately. I love how it sweeps the corners and edges of walls and furniture precisely. The vac has lights on it so when it is sweeping in dark areas, you know where it is at. The auto dumping feature is convenient so you don't have to constantly clean the vacuum. The battery life is more than enough for my tiny, 924sq ft home and can do the entire home several times a day if I wanted to on one charge but the auto docking keeps it topped off. The sound is okay, about the average noise any robot vacuums make. It has no problem navigating my house and avoiding snagging on my bedsheets/comforter, jackets, shoes, electrical cords, etc. The only two things I didn't like about this vacuum, is the feeler does come off sometimes when transitioning to carpet/rugs to tile or hard flooring. I think it comes on and off a little too easily. I am also a little disappointed that I will need to buy bags but this does keep everything more clean and less washing. Overall, this is an excellent robot vacuum that cleans exceptionally well with very little effort.

As a dog owner, keeping up with pet hair is a never-ending battle. This Roomba Max 705 has made a huge difference in my daily routine. The robot navigates around furniture efficiently, rarely gets stuck, and does an excellent job picking up dog hair from both hardwood floors and area rugs. The dual rubber brushes don’t tangle easily, which is a big plus compared to other robot vacuums I’ve owned. The self-emptying dock is a game changer. I can let it run every day without worrying about constantly emptying the bin. The app is simple, the mapping is accurate, and the cleaning performance has exceeded my expectations. If you have pets and want cleaner floors with less effort, this is definitely worth considering.

An outstanding integrated robot vacuum mop. Its laser navigation system can precisely map the room and easily avoid obstacles. The suction power is excellent - it can remove dust, debris and pet hair on both hard floors and carpets. The automatically emptied base is a huge innovation point, allowing it to run continuously for several weeks without manual cleaning. The mopping function also does a great job of completing daily floor cleaning tasks, with adjustable water flow to prevent over-moisturization. The settings, timing and room zoning in the app are very easy to use. In terms of price, it offers extremely high value for money and reliable performance. Highly recommended for busy families!

Just do yourself a favor and stay away from iRobot / Roomba. We just bought two of these systems in August. One unit stopped running clean cycles a few weeks ago. It will move into an open space in my house, spin in circles, and throw an error that it is stuck under an object when nothing is anywhere nearby. After going through all the trouble shooting steps and doing a hard factory reset, I called into tech support. They now cannot get my Roomba to connect to my wifi and tell me it is my problem because my wifi password has 'special characters' (#, !, %, etc) that aren't allowed, even though my second unit is connected and runs fine on the same wifi and both ran fine on that password for nine months. They now demand that I change my password to a less secure one with no 'special characters', which will require also reconnecting every single device in my home under a new, less secure password, just so I can run the robot to reproduce the issue and video record it happening so they can go to the next step of their miserable tech support script. iRobot happily told me to go buy a new system from another company rather than offer any alternative to what is obviously not a solution to my problem. So I will. Good riddance, Roomba. I strongly urge anyone considering this brand to do yourself a favor and move along to someone else, as iRobot really doesn't care about anything but emptying your wallet for you.
