I am really impressed by this iRobot roomba. I have 5 fluffy pets in my home, so as you can imagine- I have a ton of fur in my home at all times! This robot does a great job at picking up fur and dispensing it into the collection box. So far, it has lasted me a week without needing to dump it out which is amazing. I am so impressed!! This has made general upkeep in my home so much easier since I don’t have to vacuum as frequently!! It’s quiet, easy to set up and has an overall sleek look. The large capacity of the dust bin means you won’t have to frequently it or empty the big container which is really nice. That’s perfect if you’re having a busy week and just don’t have time to deal with it. I feel that the price is comparable to most other robot vacuums that have less capabilities. It is a reasonable price and I’m impressed with the quality of the vacuum. I have hard floors only, laminate specifically, so it makes it easier to use than if I had carpet. But I did use it on some rugs in my house and it didn’t pull up the rugs or move them around and even picked a lot of dirt off of them too. Overall?   • Initial Impressions - So far so good

So first - a complaint about iRobot. 4 or 5 years ago I purchased their flagship model, the S9+. Good robot, it did a great job. My complaint is that as parts wore out, they stopped selling replacement parts. I needed drive wheels. Because of the structure of the docking station the worn wheels would not allow it to dock to recharge or empty without giving it a little bump with your foot. This obviously means that the robot is no longer autonomous. Their solution to me was to send the robot for repair for $100 (at least). Do better iRobot. That out of the way, this made me buy another robot. I liked my S9+ so I decided to give iRobot another chance. So- the initial review. This robot is heads and shoulders above the S9+ that it replaces. I live in a one bedroom apartment… 1. Setup - setup (for me) was relatively simple and painless. I have seen some complaints that setup and documentation was confusing. I think if this your first robot I would agree. The problem is that there is no hard copy of the owner’s manual. The manual resides within the app itself. So this is a different interface app than the one used with my older S9+. The new app does not seem to be quite as intuitive as the older app. For me (experienced) the learning curve was relatively painless. In some ways it is an improvement. Now you can touch a room on the map to have the robot clean that space without the need to go through a separate menu. From there you can easily make adjustments to the “routine.” Also welcome is that you can watch the realtime progress of the routine that you are running. It’s a little mesmerizing to watch. This function looks fairly accurate but there is sometimes some lag. Finally, there is a numerical indicator of charge state instead of a progress bar. 2. Speed - the Max 705 mapped my apartment within 10 minutes. This is significantly faster than the S9+. There were some initial hiccups but today I ran my first automated run. It vacuumed 6 spaces in 1 hour and 1 minute with no recharging. At the end of its run there was still 46% charge left. I don’t know how to account for this as the robot doesn’t seem to be moving any faster than the S9+. It must just run its routes more efficiently. For comparison, my old S9+ took three to four hours to complete the same run and at least one or two recharges (even on a brand new battery). This is amazing to me. 3. Compared to my older S9+ the Max 705 is dead quiet at least on smart mode. Even on max suction setting it is considerably quieter than the S9+. 4. So far there have been minor glitches while running its routes, i.e. going to the bedroom instead of the living room. That happened once but did not repeat. In my experience, the more vacuums under your belt the more it learns and the better it becomes. The brush came off. In the S9+ you would actually screw the brush on. On the Max 705 the brush just snaps on. Hopefully this was a one off. Even though I didn’t want to get a new robot I was able to get this on sale. This is a definite improvement over the S9+.   • Frustrating and Disappointing. Vacuum is useless and Roomba's customer service is non-existent.

I bought the Roomba 705+ from Amazon, it was delivered by the manufacturer. The very next day it went on sale on the Roomba website, for $100.00 less! I called Roomba, and inquired if I could get credit for the new price difference. They said, no. I would have to get a return voucher from Amazon, but then return the vacuum to Roomba (not Amazon), and make my new purchase from their web page. I returned it. Amazon refunded my purchase price. I made the order at the Roomba website. When it arrived, I set it up, and charged it. The next day, I ran it. The process was tedious and took hours. The mapping was slow, and the recharging and emptying took a considerable amount of time. The good news It is very quiet. It does not get tangled on cords or toss rugs. All in all, I wanted to find it exceptional and thought that once it sets a map, it should be more time-efficient. I decided the best time to let it run is at bedtime, while we sleep. This was a good choice, and I was growing happier with my purchase. The third time I used it, the vacuum returned to recharge, but it has never worked since. I have tried every tip given to fix any problem that may cause it to stop, but it has been hopeless. My calls for customer service have been even more disappointing. After 45 minutes of listening to wait music, I was disconnected. I called back. Again, disconnected after 45 min of waiting, but this time a robot announced, "sorry we close at 6 p.m. It was 6:15. My third call was the following day. Again, a very long wait until an agent was online. He gave instructions to try multiple fixes, and after about 1/2 hir - 45min with the agent on the phone, while we were speaking, our call was disconnected! The next day, I received an email congratulating their agent's performance for fixing my problem! They were "so happy he could help me!" But he hadn't! I replied to their email and explained I was still without the use of my brand new vacuum. I have not heard back from them. Tonight I followed the prompts on the Roomba app to request a return. Their auto-reply was, "they would get back to me within 24-48 hrs." I am not new to robotic vacuums. I have had several, all made by Eufy, but they are clumsy, clunky, and this was when we had only tile and laminate flooring. Now we have wall-to-wall carpeting. My 6-month-old, self-cleaning Eufy did not do a good job on the carpet; it just brushed over the top. No debris was sucked up, and nothing was emptied into the self-cleaning container. Hence, my search for a replacement. I do not need or want the mop feature, and this particular Roomba was the only one that still offered a vacuum-only self-cleaning model. I am back to square one, with a firm resolution that my purchase will be from Amazon due to their customer service and return policy. I don't know which company makes a robotic vacuum that works well on medium-height carpet. My search continues. ... show more
