I do have the name brand hair styler, so I can directly compare the performance of the two stylers. In short, this styler is not as good, but if you're on a budget it is a good alternative. One of the main differences between hair styler and the name brand, is that it does not have the reversible barrels. So if you want to change the direction of your curls, you have to change barrels. For someone like me who generally likes to alternate curl directions, this is annoying. However, the name brand didn't used to have reversible barrels, so this styler is similar to the original model. Also the hair grabbing power of this styler is a lot weaker than the name brand. I can't take as large sections of hair. Also, to use this styler, you're supposed to hold the barrel a few inches from the ends of your hair and allow the air flow to pull the hair against the barrel and wrap the ends in. This styler does not do a good job of wrapping the ends in. To get a good curl, I have to use my fingers to help the ends tuck in while moving the styler toward my head. If I don't do that. the ends stick out like crazy and the rest of the hair doesn't wrap neatly around the barrel. But if I do tuck the ends in with my hand, I end up with a nice curl. So compared to the name brand, this styler requires more manual work by the user. I do like that this styler has a cool-shot function like the name brand, because the cool air helps set the curl. However, I don't like that the styler defaults to the cool setting each time you turn it on. I would prefer if it kept whichever heat setting I used last. The case that comes with this styler is very nice. It's nicer than the case that the name brand styler comes in. I'm tempted to move my name brand styler into this case. Although this styler is not a perfect dupe, it works reasonably well and is much more economical.

This set is awesome! The storage box is sturdy and the colors (navy & gold) are beautiful. I was pleasantly surprised from the moment i opened the box. There is a little bit of a learning curve with it, but once you get it down, it works great- dryer and beach waves are my fave. For the price, this is an awesome option instead of the more expensive brand!

It was ok. I was hoping it would be like the Dyson but the suction and curls were just not there for me. It make loose curls in my hair but would rather use a curling iron or buy the real thing

I got this for my 11 year old daughter. She loves it. I like that she doesn't burn herself since the heat is air and not an iron. It works great and gives her cute curls!

Got this for my wife to try out. She loves it. I dont know much about it... I just know she enjoys it. Shes uses it very often & when shes done she looks beautiful. So yes, I would definitely recommend this hair brush & hair dryer in one.

I am familiar with the name brand version of this type of styling tools, but I don't have experience with them. This was an all new experience for me. First, The packaging looks great. It all comes in a lovely case with room for everything (though a support for the tray for the wand broke, which was unfortunate.) Right out of the box, it's pretty easy to use. There might be a slight learning curve for using it *successfully*. But this is lots of fun to use, and I can quickly get curls and volume in just a few minutes where curling or straightening irons I used to use took longer. Even without product in my hair, I find curls stay in pretty well, and the volume and bounce stays well into the next day. Included are multiple curling wands depending on size and direction you want to curl. Also a drying attachment, which is nice. You can thread some of your hair through it, though I'm not sure of the purpose unless you are trying to pinpoint a section to dry. There is a volumizing brush attachment which I'm not a fan of as it's very large and bulky, and the results shown in the demonstration video are not impressive. Seems also redundant with the curling attachments. I'll never use it. Overall I'm very please with this styling set.
