Looks like Amazon incorrectly labeled this item the 10920x which is only a 12 core cpu. I managed to snag one off of Newegg. The 10980xe is an 18 core monster that is just a revision from the 7980xe and the 9980xe. This cpu still drops into x299 boards and behaves almost identically to the 7980xe and 9980xe with the exception of slightly higher stock clocks. The major selling point is the price with a massive 50% off of the original MSRP of the 9980xe. The skylake-x mesh architecture suffers compared to coffeelake's(9900k) ringbus in gaming applications. You will actually lose performance in gaming compared to a 9900k. The 10980xe does bring more cores along with the features that come with the x299 platform making it a great workstation. I consider the 18 core 10980xe a good core count in between the 12 from the 3900x and the 24 from threadripper 3. At the time of writing, I cannot consider the 3950x despite its incredible performance because of how unavailable they are. As of now, the 3950x is $999.99 on Newegg, $899 on B and H photo, $900-$1000 on ebay, and $929 from sellers on Amazon. Best Buy is the only one honoring the $749.00 MSRP... The overclocking headroom on the 10980xe is incredible. With ambient water cooling(360 clc) I can hit 5ghz across all 18 cores. The heat is almost unmanageable at the moment for me so I will be looking into a custom loop in the future. As always with overclocking, your results may vary.

Amazon keeps showing the wrong box and description. An i9-10920x 12 core comes in a black box with white letters and it says "x-series" A 10980xe comes in a black box with gold letters and it says"Extreme It's also not $1168 more like $729. I bought one of these after being assured by a supervisor thinking I was getting the 10980xe and instead I got a 10920x for $1168. Finally got my refund after 3 weeks. What amazes me is that many people have reported tis discrepancy and Amazon does not rectify it. Amazon get your act together.

You can clearly see this product, which was purchased New, was actually used with replacement sticker to cover up old dirty sticker from original sale. Is there any integrity left in this world?
