NOTE: There are 2 models of this mic; one model with a volume knob, one model without a volume knob; this is a review for the model without a volume knob. For (voip) phone calls and chat sessions (eg, zoom, slack) I've been using a combination of headsets or a conference call terminal (external speaker + mic). [NOTE: the builtin mics in my computers are useless.] I've been looking for a standalone mic that would allow me to a) get away from headsets, b) allow audio to come out over my current speakers and c) would allow the mic to be moved around the desktop as needed. I also did not want one of those big 'radio station' microphones you see a lot of podcasters and video creators using. Then I stumbled on this little gem. While this mic comes with a small instruction booklet I did not need to use it as this is truly a plug-n-play device. Whether using a direct USB port, or a USB hub, my linux machines (desktop, laptop) immediately registered this mic under 'Settings > Sound > Input'. Switching the mic for use in my virtual machines (mix of linux and WIndows 7/10) was also quick-n-easy. A simple touch of my finger on the indicator light switches from green (live) to red (muted) and back to green (live). This mic has a substantial metal neck which is another way of saying this mic is going to stay exactly where you position it. I find the lack of a volume knob to be a non-issue as I can easily adjust the volume via linux settings and/or moving the mic nearer/farther from my seating position. Included in the box is a card with instructions for extending the warranty. A quick email referencing my Amazon order number bumped the warranty up from 24 months to 48 months (though I'm hoping I don't need to use it). ... show more

    • Well made, solid pickup. I love the touch mute switch.
If you need to record from your computer, this setup is a great option. I wasn’t expecting much for the price, but it turned out to be a good value. I needed a microphone for my home M1 Mac mini running macOS Sequoia, and this one seemed to fit the bill. It has a 48 kHz recording on the microphone and a direct USB input, which is exactly what I needed. Unfortunately, I didn’t notice a MUTE switch on the microphone until I looked closer. It turns out to be a capacitive TOUCH switch, which is a really nice feature because it won’t make any noise if you need to turn off your microphone in the middle of a recording, like if you sneeze or are in the middle of a meeting. What I was particularly impressed with was how well the microphone came packaged. The gooseneck is strong, and the recording quality is very good. I usually use the Voice Isolation Mode on macOS because the microphone picks up minor echoes and outside noises on the default setting. I’ve run a few recordings with this microphone, and they sound great. It also looks very professional on my desk. So far my favorite feature is the touch switch. I can’t say how much I’ve enjoyed having that feature, but it’s just touch so I don’t hear any clicks or taps in the middle of my recordings. Overall, I’ve enjoyed using this microphone so far.     • A Wonderful Product that I Have Tested and Used Without Any Problem
This is an excellent microphone. I participate in various Zoom calls throughout the week with my church groups, and I use this microphone because it's superior to the internal microphone on my laptop. It records less ambient noise from central air, air conditioning devices, refrigerators, and similar sources. It’s an excellent microphone on my desk. I am also planning a podcast, so this works out very well with my podcast activities. I've not tried to connect to an iPhone whose primary camera is an iPhone 15, and I’ve learned this over the years. You can’t get better than that. I bought an almost professional-grade Canon camera, but it wasn't as good as an iPhone 13. I learned this when I was in a church in Strasbourg, France, and my Canon camera said it was too dark and couldn’t take the picture. I pulled up my iPhone 13 with no problem at all, and the picture glowed bright. It was able to bring out the colors in the picture, and it worked fine. That’s why I realized that I don’t need a camera. That’s why I do the bulk of my photography with an iPhone. I can’t wait for an iPhone 8K to come out so I can do even better videos. This is an excellent microphone, and I expect to get many years of service out of it. It works every time. It’s plug-and-play, with no problem whatsoever.     • I had set up my desktop for a headset originally.
This microphone and a couple of speakers allowed me to enjoy more than just a simple headset, it also brought back memories of my original Windows 95 standing mic.
