  • Has Meater Finally Met its Match?
Size: INT-11P
Let’s get right to the quick answer: Yes, absolutely. Wireless thermometers have been on the market for a few years already but despite the hype, most are simply awful when it comes to range and keeping a stable signal. Let’s first talk a bit about wireless “Q” history. As you may know, Meater developed the first wireless barbeque remote technology as a Kickstarter project. Other wannabees such as Meatstick soon followed. The earliest generations were simply terrible when placed inside a closed grill yet that’s exactly what is necessary for true low’ no slow barbeque. No serious barbeque folks cook this way unless doing a fast steak or burger. Next came second generations such as the Meater + promising up to a 165 foot Bluetooth range that promised to fix the range issue. However, as someone who specializes in tech and BBQ reviews, I was disappointed to learn real world results still yielded ridiculously short range despite the use of repeaters to try to increase it. I have been a huge fan of Inkbird and have wondered why they waited to introduce a wireless probe of its own. I sense they waited until they got it right and happy to report they absolutely did. Read on to learn more about the specifics and pros and cons of this new unit: RANGE: At last! I was skeptical of the advertised 300 ft. range yet Inkbird has nailed it. Due the the nature of still improving wireless technology, the range is less than Inkbird’s excellent wired Bluetooth and Wi-Fi models but still very good for most homes. In our large 2,700 foot house I only had a couple of drop out areas but none affecting practical use—especially overnight. For me, wireless convenience great outweighs the reduced range. FIT AND FINISH: Although I bought this unit for myself, the presentation is highly gift worthy--much like buying a luxury Mont Blanc pen. The black and gold case further serves to charge and store the INT-11P-B. ACCURACY / VERSATILITY Ironically, although I own a couple of Thermopens, I use an Inkbird IHT-IP instant read thermometer as my go-to thermometer for accuracy. At $16 it’s an incredible bargain and I prefer it even compared to Inkbird’s more expensive IHT-1S. This wireless unit is very close indeed and is easily calibrated should the need arise. One unique feature of the probe is that the back end has a second sensor that takes the temperature inside your pit. It’s a great guide to be sure your grill is chugging along normally during all night cooks. APP / EASE OF USE: The INT-11P-B relies on the Inkbird APP. I’m a fan of its versatility and ease of programming yet it’s so sophisticated I’d prefer to be able to turn off its ability tell me the weather in my hometown. Far more important is that it pairs easily and is rock solid. WHAT IF YOU NEED MORE THAN ONE PROBE? HERE’S HOW: Like many serious barbeque folks, I like to throw at least two briskets or port butts on the pit at once. (See photo.) For wired probes, this typically requires one dedicated to pit temp and two more—one for each piece of meat. I was impressed with my first INT-11P-B so I ordered a second. The APP handles both with ease. It’s easy to rename each—in my case I call them “Probe One” and Probe Two.” For a 16 hour overnight cook, each was stable and accurate the entire time. Only two probes are needed since this the backside of this model measures ambient temp, too. One bit of advice if you use a typical butt, brisket or ribs technique to have a portion of the cooking time with the meat covered—typically in aluminum foil. You will find that the meat temp still reads accurately but the ambient type is affected by the fact that it’s under the foil—thus not measuring the pit temp itself. The workaround I’ve found is to poke a very small hole in the foil and let the top of the probe poke through—all works well. SUGGESTIONS / CONCLUSION: Hope ‘bout releasing a version that includes two probes in one charging case? Wireless technology has a bright future and Inkbird has now taken it a big step forward at a more than fair price. ... show more

  • High Quality Wireless Thermometer with a great app
Size: INT-11P
I was very impressed with this thermometer from the unboxing. The unboxing experience is very impressive. Think Apple-like. In the box, you get the thermometer, case, USB-C charging cable, and a small manual. The thermometer feels very durable. It's heavy and feels like it is made to last. It charges in the case. The case charges via USB-C (Think AirPods). The performance of the thermometer is fantastic. I had no problems connecting and staying connected to my Galaxy S24 Ultra. Just create an account, select your device and you're good to go. I had no dropped connections during a recent 12-hour smoke. The app even logs and charts your temperatures for you. The calibration is spot-on. If there is a variance, you can set an offset in the app. The app is great. It has preprogrammed temperatures for numerous foods with different levels of 'doneness'. For example, you can select Beef then select medium and the temp prepopulates to 140. You can also choose whatever temp you like. When the meat hits that temp, you get a notification on your phone. It all works great. You can even choose to have an early warning so you don't get caught off guard. Overall, I'm very happy with the InkBird wireless thermometer. It's not the first InkBird I've purchased and it won't be the last. ... show more

  • Great value for a Bluetooth meat thermometer
Size: INT-11P
This is a really convenient thermometer and has quality consistent with the other Inkbird products. If you already have the Inkbird app this thermometer works with the same software, make it easy to manage everything. This did a good job tracking the temperature of both chicken and steak. It really shines on the steak. I compared it with a similar thermometer, and both indicated the same reading. The range was typical for Bluetooth. Especially with the grill or smoker lid closed the range can be reduced, but I was able to get a temperature update from inside the house 1 room away. The probe keeps about 30 minutes of data so nothing is lost if you walk away from the food. This probe is a little bit longer than a chicken thigh but you need to cover the entire metal part with the meat to protect the internal electronics from the high heat of the fire. I just pushed the probe all the way through the one piece and into another. It worked great! The probe itself is thicker than an instant read probe but give the benefit of leaving it in the food and being able to see the graph and change rate for what you are cooking. I was able to complete all my cooks without recharging the probe. It cleaned easily with a soft sponge and some soap and water. ... show more
