  • These Impresa socks are impressive
Size: 20-Pack
TL;DR version at the end. We bought our current home a few years ago. It came with an above ground Doughboy 18x34 oval pool. I knew nothing about pools but we loved the house. I discovered these socks after extensive research on pool care. I have to say, they are one of the most important tools I have. Right up there with shock. The first year I had the pool, we were constantly cleaning out the filter cartridge. I mean at least once a week. The pressure in the filter would get close to 20 and we'd know it was time to clean it out. Between draining the filter chamber to get the filter out, to hosing it down, to putting it back in and waiting for the chamber to fill back up, I was killing at least a half an hour a week just on filter care. That didn't include the time to brush the pool, skim it, test the water, balance it, shock it, etc. I tried filter cleaning chemicals and special tools to clean the filters. Still once a week. Pool care was taking me anywhere from 1-2 hours total every week. I'm not sure that is normal, but I wanted to find a way to reduce it. I should mention, that the previous owner was facing financial trouble so she couldn't afford the chemicals to maintain the pool. So she let it go. It was pretty bad when we got it. Dark green with at least an inch of rotting leaves at the bottom. Draining it wasn't an option because the liner would have shrunken and we wouldn't go back to normal. The guy who opened the pool gave me some tips on how to get it from green to clean. I also went to Leslie's pool supply and they helped me with getting it balanced. It took about a week to get all the leaves out. We had to take extreme measures. We hooked up the vacuum and opened up the filter chamber so all the sludge would be pumped out into the yard. Then we started balancing the water. Once all was done, I went from dark green to crystal clear. About a month or so later, I added in the socks, and it did collect a great deal. I was impressed. We we went from cleaning the filter once a week, to about two weeks. It occurred to me later that the filter that was in there was probably pretty messed up from cleaning out that messy water before we got the socks. Even without the leaves, there was still a lot of organic material it had to filter out. It probably created a lot more wear and tear on the fibers of the cartridge then normal use. So I replaced the cartridge. The pressure was significantly better, and we only needed to clean the filter every four weeks. The next year, we reused the filter, and almost got a full season out of it with these socks. The pool guy said the cartridge should last at least half the season if not the full season depending on use. It got light use that year, so we got almost a full season out of a filter that was used the prior year. This year, we got a new liner. At some point, the water became cloudy. I balanced the water and made sure the PH and alkalinity were perfect. When that didn't work, I shocked it. Still a no go. I tried a water clarifier too, and it didn't change anything. Then I remembered I forgot to put in the pool sock. 24 hours after putting in the pool sock, the water was crystal clear again. The package says to replace these every 3-4 weeks. I did that last year and it seems to work just fine. This year though, I figured I would try replacing them every week to see if it works better. Cleaning the sock out only takes a couple of minutes, but I figure over time the fibers break down, allowing more organic material to pass through. Since the 20 pack was cheap, I figured I would see if replacing them once a week would make a difference. The pool has been open since April and I've washed the filter twice. Once when we started up the pool (this cartridge was from last year), and once after that. So I am getting about 8 weeks between cleanings from a filter that I put in about a month before we closed the pool last year. That's 3.5 hours of work saved that I don't have to spend on pool care. We usually wait until it gets to 17 psi before we clean it. We probably could get another week or two between cleanings if we let it get to 20, but I didn't want to put to much strain on the pump. TL;DR: Sock filters out a lot of organic material reducing the amount of work the filter has to do. This has reduced the frequency of cleaning the filter from once a week to every four weeks when replacing the sock every 3-4 weeks. If I replace the sock every week, I can go for 8 weeks between cleanings. This saves me a significant amount of time in pool care, and I use less chemicals. BUY THESE THINGS! I know some people use pantyhose, but I think these are more the consistency of tights. They are thicker. I am not sure if tights would be a good substitute, but I don't care to find out. You would have to cut the tights to fit the skimmer, and who knows how easily they would hang on in the basket. These are cheap enough to just buy and not have to deal with the trouble. ... show more

  • Great idea to solve skimmer trash flow
Size: 20-Pack
This is one great idea. Keeps trash in the skimmer from getting to the pump and filter. One issue my skimmer basket has a rod across the top opening. I had to maneuver the sock around it but I got it fitted and it works great.

  • Big time work and equipment saver.
Size: 20-Pack
We live in an area with a lot of cottonwood trees and the cotton from these trees has made it necessary for me to change the sand in my pool filter too often, at least every year. I bought these pool filter socks and so far I barely have to backwash. I wish I had these for the last 30 years. They are reusable but if you need to put chlorine tablets in your skimmer leave the socks out. These will definitely be included with our pool supplies from now on. ... show more

  • Love These Pool Filter Bags
Size: 20-Pack
We have an uncovered pool and lots of trees and plantings. We were having problems with small seeds and flowers going right through pump filter. This catches everything and can be easily rinsed daily. They last several months before tearing or losing elasticity.
