I have been using this ice maker for 8 months without any issues. It works great and really cranks out the ice. I make several batches when I turn it on and bag each batch as it finishes and put it directly in the freezer. I find doing it that way gives it less chance to melt and stick together when it goes in the freezer. When I have enough in the freezer, I make another batch to use directly from the machine. It will melt in the machine if it sits too long - the machine does not have a freeze function. I have never had a problem with leaks. I like that it lets you know when you need to add water and when the ice compartment is full and that you can pick the size of ice you want to make. It is easy to empty - just pull the bucket out, dump it, and return it to the machine. It even comes with a scoop if you need some for a glass. It is very easy to clean and it takes up a very small amount of space. I enjoy using it and am very glad that I made the purchase. I plan to buy another one this spring to use on an outdoor porch! ... show more

I have been looking at buying an ice maker for a while. Ice from the store melts on the way home, and sticks together. Also the ice goes stale after a while. I bought this table top ice maker and could not be happier. It produces fresh delicious ice on demand. Now I can add ice to my tea or lemonade, or just enjoy a nice glass of ice water. So far I have only used the small cubes. The ice takes 6-8 minutes to form. I get about 6 bullet sized pieces of ice at a time. I just let it go through a few cycles, and then harvest the ice. Extra ice goes into the freezer to be used later in the day. A few things you should know. First, you need to wash it out with soapy water before the first use. Second, you have to let the machine sit on a level surface for at least two hours to let the refrigerant gas inside to settle. (That’s the same reason why you never transport a refrigerator or freezer on its side). If you don’t wait, the machine will prematurely stop working. I washed mine and let it settle for 24 hours before the first use. Third, the ice maker is not a freezer. You need to remove the ice or it will soon melt. Fourth, this size is for personal use. Forget providing ice for a party etc. It just doesn’t make ice in large enough quantities. I think it would work for a family, provided people didn’t mind a little wait. Also, I think you could easily set one of these up at your office at work, as it is small and compact. Finally, I am using bottled water to make my ice. I find that the ice tastes better and I don’t have to worry about hard water deposits in my machine. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. It makes decent sized ice that once frozen in my regular freezer, is very solid. Not too loud and the cycle isn't very long to create ice.

UPDATE: After about 3 months, the "Add Water" light stopped working and I realized that there is no difference between the "small" and "large" sizes. We still use it though. Might go and find another one with smaller cubes. Original: My boyfriend and I go through ice a lot and having to refill the one ice tray over and over again and wait for it to freeze is SUCH a pain. Then we found this ice maker and honestly, all of our problems are pretty much solved. I was skeptical at first because the ice basket was so small, but it makes ice so quickly that it doesn't even matter. I can use the entire ice basket to fill my giant water bottle and then come back and use the refilled ice for a smoothie. It's so convenient! And the cool part is that it recycles the water, so if the ice melts, it drops back into the water basin and reuses it to make more ice. You rarely have to refill the water! Pros: While it only makes 9 cubes at a time, after a while those 9 cubes become a lot of ice. Used to make a bunch before a long holiday weekend. Cons: The ice is wet and if you're making a lot and put it in the freezer until you need it, it freezes into a big clump that needs to be broken up. That being said, breaking up the ice causes it to fly everywhere and if not paying attention, you can step on it, slip, and dislocate your shoulder. ... show more

I bought the 30lb machine. First thoughts: It's surprisingly heavy for its small size, probably 20ish lbs. It actually isn't too loud, which is nice. It makes like 9 small ice "bullets" in 5-6 minutes, which is nice, but 9 smalls probably isn't enough to fill a glass, maybe enough for a lowball glass. That said, the more I use it, the less I like it. Here's why: When you first turn it on, the ice it produces is thin and brittle. Why? Because I believe how it seems to work is that it cycles a portion of the water through a refrigeration cycle in the back of the machine before loading the water against the freezer nozzles, then is on a timer for dropping the ice into the basket. So the water is warmer at the start before it's cycled through the machine a few times, doesn't freeze all the way, and drops into the basket. The last few ice bullets from the fill are full and firm, but it's a big difference from the first drop of ice bullets in the fill to the last drop in the same fill Then there's the ice itself. It's so cloudy it looks white. Completely. White. There must be so many tiny air bubbles in the ice, perhaps because of how quickly it freezes the ice. White ice is unappealing, I'm sorry. I don't want to serve drinks to my guests at my home bar with white ice. Maybe that's fine to shake in a martini shaker, but if someone gave me whisky with white ice, I'd be so grossed out. And don't get me started about the small capacity. I knew 30 lbs wasn't a lot, but if you intend to make 30lbs of ice with this thing, you'll be emptying the basket twice per hour and refilling the machine with water every hour. I'm going to keep playing with it in the hopes that I can get clearer ice. If I could get clearer ice, it'd be a 3-star machine. ... show more
