  • A capable light source for a low-tech, low-light 10-gallon tank!
Size: 18W for 18~24inch Tank
I've just finished setting up my first planted aquarium (10 gallon). I had been searching for a good light source and new I wanted one that had a timer so I didn't have to remember to turn on and shut off everyday. All the YouTube videos and online recommendations veered toward the Finnex Stingray or lights of equivalent price points. Being my first aquarium, I didn't want to get carried away and overspend on every last detail. I decided to roll the dice on this light knowing I could always return it, and I am very glad I did. Physically speaking, the light itself has a very low profile and sits roughly 1" above the rim of the tank (maybe less). It gives off very little heat, and the sliding brackets adjust to the tank smoothly and sits securely. The quality and build are very good, and, to be sure of the reliability, I ran this light at full intensity for a week, 24 hours a day, then another full week on the 24/7 timer without any issues. The light itself at maximum intensity is BRIGHT. The basic features include full spectrum light (with options to change the lighting to a single spectrum/color if so desired), timer features (including a 24/7 setting), and ability to adjust the intensity of the light, if so desired. The spectrum and intensity options are pretty straightforward; you can adjust these to your liking, however I feel it is the timers that require a little more detailed explanation. You have three chief options, simple on/off, 24/7, and personalized custom: The 24/7 feature basically sets the light loose to do its thing automatically. I don't recall the exact times, but roughly around 6-7AM, the light will turn on with a gentle intensity in the orange light spectrum to simulate dawn, then work its way through the day to full spectrum, then culminate in a blue/indigo spectrum in the evening around 8-9PM, until it shuts off for the night around 10-11PM. The one and only CON that I have is the intensity of light CANNOT be adjusted in this setting. When it reaches full daytime, the full spectrum is BRIGHT. If you have low-light plants, it may be too much. The personalized custom timer allows for 3 durations of light, 6H, 10H, and 12H. The plus side to these timers is that it DOES allow for adjustment for light intensity. The drawback is you lose the beauty of the changing light spectrums as this mode only goes between off a gentle ramp up to full spectrum and vice versa. It's kind of a bummer, but not a deal-breaker for me. Setting up the timers is a mild annoyance as the controls work by way of counting your button presses to select the options. For example, to cycle through the various light intensities, color spectrums, or time settings, you have to repeatedly press the buttons to cycle through everything. Not a big deal since you realistically only have to do it once to set up the timers. For those interested, I am currently growing Bacopa Caroliniana, Apongeton Ulvaceus, Amazon Sword, Windelov Java Fern, Cryptocoryn Lutea, Cryptocoryn Wendtii Green, Java Moss, and Susswassertang in this tank and everything is growing very well with this light. All in all, a great little light for those not wanting to pay 2-2.5x the price for a similar "big name" light source. ... show more

  • Set it and leave it
Size: 26W for 30~36inch Tank
I just want to start off by saying, I've been very happy with all the products that I have purchased from Hygger. My previous purchase was an aquarium air pump. I have bought plenty of air pumps, and by far it has been the quietest air pump I've have ever purchased. Anyway, back to the lights. I have 2 26w and 1 14w. I use the 2 26w fixtures for my 100-gallon red eared sliders turtle tank and I use the 14w for the 20-gallon basking area for my sliders. I like that you can set it and forget it. I know some people have expressed that the controller is confusing. I would say if you read the directions a couple of times, it would probably make sense to you. Also, some have expressed if you have a power outage you have to reprogram the lights. I can see how that might be a pain. I have not tried yet myself, but maybe consider placing your light fixtures on a UPS. Especially if you have more than 1. If your power outage is shorter than the battery life, you shouldn't need to reset it. I have used more expensive led light fixtures that did not have any of these features. The light quality is beautiful. I really like the 24/7 feature. I like how it simulates the natural light cycle. I feel and hope that my turtles like it and benefit from them as much as I do. Update: WARNING! I have 3 of these lights which I purchased in November of 2021, so I have had them for almost 3 years with no problems. I absolutely love these lights. Please heed the manufacturers warning about not getting the controller wet. Today I was topping off my turtle tank with a couple of buckets of water, and accidentally spilled some water over the back of the tank. I did not realize I got the controller wet. About 15 minutes later my 1 unit was no longer working and I knew right away what I must have done. I can't be upset with the manufacturer, as they clearly have marked on the back of the controller not to get it wet. I love these lights so much that I immediately purchased a new one today. I must say that these lights are so reasonably priced that I would be willing to pay at least $10 more for these lights if it meant they could improve on the controller to make it waterproof. My plans going forward is to purchase a small tube of silicone to close up both side seams and where the wire enters and exits the controller. Very small investment to keep the controller water proof or resistant. ... show more

  • Great for plants
Size: 22W for 24~30inch Tank
I bought one of these for a 20 gallon planted aquarium that I have as it was struggling with the old lights. I was so impressed I came back and bought 2 more for my 55 gallon tank. I installed these under a hood and it just barely fits with millimeters of room to spare. Didn't use the metal racks it came with, instead I super glued them to the top of the hood. I prefer the look. Timing features are basic but work well. I use the 12 hr cycle where it gimmicks sunrise and sunset. I just love the esthetics of that cycle. ... show more

  • Works great, wish it were sturdier
Size: 42W for 48~54inch Tank
The light on my 75 gallon aquarium died - this new one is replacing a former hood light. I love that it's programmable. I have it set to turn on like the sunrise in the morning and then "set" at night. The brightness is set to my liking. I never have to think about the light anymore which is fabulous! The only downfall so far is that I bought a longer version of the light to stretch the span of my aquarium and it has a tendency to sag a bit in the middle. Not liking that look. ... show more

  • Well worth the money!
Size: 22W for 24~30inch Tank
Amazing! So versatile and one push of a button programs a full natural light cycle dawn to dusk! Even moonlight! And so bright or can be dimmed, turned purple blue and so many other colors! And 22 watts! Very pleased!

  • Love this light, but I needed 2 on my 20 gallon long
Size: 26W for 30~36inch Tank
I found one light on my tank was not enough to give my java grass back wall and my front plants enough light to thrive. I put on a second and they both fit together perfect. Two lights will put out more heat, so my tank temp can hit 79 when my room is around 77 so you'll want to be aware of that. Having two of the same lights means I can hit the 24/7 or programming buttons at the same time and they function as a single light. Already dropped one on the floor from a height and also into the water and no damage. Well made, bright and low profile. ... show more
