While the 460 Rancher is designed for landowners and part-time users, it has the power and durability that professionals might find suitable for lighter tasks. However, for heavy-duty, daily professional use, a more robust model may be recommended.

Yes, the Husqvarna 460 Rancher is versatile in that you can use different sizes of chain bars with it. It's compatible with bars ranging from 13 inches up to 24 inches, allowing for a variety of cutting tasks. Always ensure you use compatible Husqvarna bars and chains for safety and performance.

  • Fantastic chain saw. The pros on this saw far outweigh the cons!
I buy a lot of Amazon, but only occasionally review products that either fall far short or really far exceed my expectations. This saw easily exceeded my expectations. IT IS A BOSS! For years I seriously pushed the limits with a cheaper Ryobi chainsaw that I bought from Home Depot. I'm not knocking Ryobi (or even Home Depot for selling me the Ryobi chain saw). Both are fine companies. And, for the cost, and everything I did cut with it, that Ryobi was a fine deal. But, alas I came up against a project at the end of last summer (2017) that my old Ryobi just could not handle, so I ordered this Husqvarna 460 Rancher off Amazon. In short, after cutting and breaking down close to 40 trees (including large hardwoods) with this Husqvarna 460 Rancher, I have not touched (and probably never will touch) my Ryobi chainsaw again! Read on for my pros and cons after seriously breaking in and using my Husqvarna 460 Rancher. PROS: - Extremely reliable (starts easy, starts every time) - All the power you need to cut the hardest of hardwoods, and yet it does it with way less vibration, kickback, etc. than my old Ryobi - The build quality is outstanding... contrasting it w/ my cheaper Ryobi chain saw, EVERYTHING (from the housing, to the bar chain oil and gas tank lids, to the chain tensioner, the bar itself, etc.) is made and assembled with much higher quality materials and attention. After all the trees I've already dropped and broken down with this Husqvarna saw, I see myself using this saw for years (probably decades) to come. - Safety controls on this saw work flawlessly, are intuitively positioned, and are designed to account for common human errors. - The power to price ratio on this saw is nearly unbeateble! I researched this purchase to death. I considered Stihl, Echo, and other options carefully. But, at least at the time of my purchase, those other brands did not have a comparable deal to this 460 Rancher. And, while this saw ran close to double the price of my old Ryobi chain saw, I'm now cutting stuff my Ryobi could never handle. And, even the stuff my Ryobi could handle, I now process in half the time, and don't walk away feeling so fatigued and worn out. - While Husqvarna is happy to sell you all their accessories to this saw, I really appreciate the fact that they built a saw that uses industry standard bar bolt positions, sizes, mounts, etc. Allowing me to readily consider the slew of third party accessories, replacement chains/bars/etc. in the future. CONS (well really just one con): - While it is SO MUCH MORE pleasant to work with, compared to my admittedly lesser powered and cheaper Ryobi chain saw, this is NOT a small and/or light chain saw. It is substantially heavier and larger than my smaller Ryobi. My wife is petite, and she can handle the Ryobi well, given its smaller body size, lighter weight and handle positioning. But, I think my wife would struggle with the wider positioning of the handles and weight of this saw. Neither are an issue for me, and I'm not a particulary big guy (5' 10", 210 lbs), but it is something for others to consider. For what it is worth, even with its larger and heavier body, the ease with which this saw cuts, the reduced vibration (at least in contrast to my Ryobi), its ability handle kickback well, all make for a much less fatiguing experience for me. ... show more

  • Great-Running Saw
I have used PowerKing and BlueMax saws. The PowerKing caught on fire. The BlueMax broke within a month. The company replaced it and the new one broke again. After I received the second replacement, I decided that I can not waste time should this one break down so I decided to buy a real chainsaw. I looked at Stihl and Husqvarna. I found that Husqvarna was more saw for the price. I have had the Husqvarna 460 Rancher for a little over two years now and I use it constantly. I have used it on soft pine trees and hard maple, walnut and locust trees. As long as I keep the chains sharp, the saw eats through all of them. I feel that the size is just perfect for me. Powerful enough but still not too heavy and unwieldy. I have used 16", 18", 20" and 24" bars depending on the job I am doing. They all work well and the saw does not bog down even when using the 24" bar on large hardwood trees. The only problem I had was the carburetor went bad after a year and the authorized repair shop took a long time to get another. They repaired the saw under warranty. I now keep a spare carburetor on hand just in case. My area has several authorized repair shops. Some things to note: 1. Do not put too much oil in your mixed gas. It will foul up your carburetor. 2. I use 1 ounce Sea Foam Motor Treatment per gallon of mixed gas to keep the gas from fouling and to keep my carburetor clean. 3. Keep your your chains sharp. A dull chain will add more wear to the saw. 4. Check the tension of the chain every time you add fuel. The chain will stretch, especially when first using one and if it is loose, it will fall off the sprockets. When this happens several of the drive teeth on the chains will break, and links will bend, both of which will require you to replace links to get the chain to work again. 5. Do not use cheap Chinese chains. This machine is so powerful, that it will break cheap Chinese chains within seconds of revving the engine. In general, with how much I use it, I am very pleased with this saw and would recommend it to anyone who can handle this size saw. ... show more

  • MASSIVE POWER
I did my homework on this chainsaw. I spent close to 2 months trying to decide between Stihl and the Husqvarna! And then between the 455, 460, and the 465. The price difference between the 460 and the 465 does not justify the auto program electronics in the 465. Maybe I'm just old-fashioned and I like making the adjustments on the high in the low, but to me it was well worth the difference in the price. I thought about going with the 455 but I wanted to be able to use a much larger bar, because eventually I want to use the saw for milling and Lumber. Right out of the box I was very impressed with how the saw ran in the raw power that it has. One of the big arguments between stihls and Husqvarna, is the stihls you have to run all out in the huskys are very torquey. As a person who drives diesels I prefer the torque. It was also nice that as I laid the saw down I can start it up as the bar is on the wood and not have to wind it up before I could go into it, and it would run right through it. The picture I have below is a 30 inch diameter log of black oak that is about as green as they get and I ran the Chainsaw right through it. I'm not a professional arborist or somebody who cuts wood all the time. But I do cut down trees from family and friends and cut some for a wood burner I have in my woodshop. Ultimately as I said I would love to be able to mail my own lumber. So for a normal every day person I just wanted a good strong chainsaw that will hopefully be one of the last ones I buy for a very long time this chainsaws absolutely excellent !! I would even recommend this to experts as well because I believe they would love it too. ... show more
