Easy set up
My husband and I have never bothered getting a printer for our house because I can easily get things printed at work. The pandemic changed that and left us at a loss since I've switched to working from home. We decided to invest in a printer for the house and I got the opportunity to try out this HP Smart Tank Plus 551 at a discounted rate to share my experience. First we took it out of the box and were impressed with the sleek design and appropriate heft of the product. Since this printer is set up with bluetooth, we didn't have to be limited to where we put it, and the range is perfect for our house. We added the ink and set up all of our devices in minutes. I'm genuinely impressed with how fast and easy we were able to get everything going. My husband printed his first document at home and grinned like a little kid with the excitement of Christmas day. According to the instructions, the ink should last a long time (like two years with standard printing). We completed the test page and copied it based on the directions. The words and pictures came out crisp and clear, as with any standard professional printing job. Even the copies came out nicely! Our first printing job was my husband's class syllabus (about 7 pages) which printed really fast and it even showed the color nicely. I would recommend this printer to anyone who is in the market for a new one or an upgrade!

And what warmth!
I just received and set up the new printer without issue. I’m certainly not super tech savvy, so I appreciate basically setting up a printer that is fairly plug-in and go. There’s the unpacking and the setting up of course, but with the easy and obvious steps mapped out in the Starter guide everything was straight forward. Filling the ink tanks was super easy and clean without one drop of ink out of place. I like being able to fill the tanks where I want and support fully not being tied to the ink cartridges anymore. The printer I had before went kaput with full ink carts plus a set in reserve—all to waste! Ink carts are expensive and once the printer is older new printers are using new carts which leave older carts obsolete and unusable in newer printers. This is a waste of product, and all the energy it cost to make and ship, as well as the cost of about 100 dollars in unused ink expense to me. I absolutely refused to replace my broken printer with another specific cartridge based printer. Plus the bottled ink is much less expensive than the carts and you can see your ink levels, cause everyone knows those ink levels are sketchy. You do have to download an app to use, but that also seems fairly well designed, straight forward, and easy to use. I’m feeling very hopeful

It works well and it is a color printer that won't put you in the POOR House
This printer functioned for a while about 9 months . It the began to take more than one sheet of paper at a time. It was intermittent on that function. Then all of a sudden it quit completely. It would make a strange noise three times then kaput. The paper feed system is a disaster . I tried to contact Amazon about and got a complete run around saying I never bought it . However it is on my purchases. My question is simple . IS ANYONE GOING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT?

Overpriced, cheaply built but generally does what it says it supposed to do.
It’s a good enough printer although it’s incredibly cheaply built. All plastic. Whatever you do, don’t move the thing or there will be ink everywhere. I didn’t have any trouble setting up the Wi-Fi. The print quality is pretty good actually. It is very finicky though and regularly says that there is trouble with the printhead. I have to open it up, snap open the printhead, and close it back up, and it’s happy again. It’s it’s on the expensive side for what it is, but it’s a reasonable unit.

The worst
Update - I have owned this printer for 3-years now. I can't believe I have suffered this agony for 3-years! I'm tired of making excuses; it only acts this way sometimes, it's actually a good printer once you get to know it, It only acts this way when I deserve it. In short, the software sucks, the print quality sucks, the scans suck. This was a $300 mistake! I'm ordering an Epson. After all, Shaq wouldn't put his name on just any product for monetary reasons. This printer was decent for 6 months. It would intermittently disconnect from my home network, but a restart would fix that. After that, my computers randomly lose the printer (printer status - offline) and I have to run a troubleshooter. Then the print heads went bad. Luckily it was still under warranty, so HP sent me ONE. I had to call after the first head arrived and verify my address to receive the second one! So, finally after 3-4 months I could print again. I have been on the phone several times to resolve the network issue. The tech usually changes the port and creates a new name for my printer. Now that I'm no longer under warranty, I have to pay to have my problems resolved! Skip this nightmare and get something more stable.

Great printer! Was pleasantly surprised.
I didn't even know these tank printers existed until I saw a commercial for the Epson Ecotank. I ended up going with the HP Super Tank 551 after doing some research on both. Even though the HP version cost me $100 more I'm glad I went with this model. I do a lot of printing on glossy photo paper and I've had issues with Epson models not printing deep black on this type. I've been using my Super Tank for two weeks now and the image quality is excellent so far. It was easy to set up on my network using HP Smart. I do wish there was an option for usb connection, but wireless has been fine so far. The paper feeder seems better than the cheaper HP models that use cartridges. I was worried about this spending so much. All in all it's been a smart buy because I added up my cartridge costs for the year which totaled $300... Two weeks in and I really haven't made a dent in the ink. Will update if I run into any issues. So far so good! Would recommend.

Just in Time for Homeschooling
Well now that we're stuck with in home learning a printer that could handle daily use was a necessity. I'm still a little hesitant about the purchase price but hopefully the ink will last as long as it claims and it will all be worth it. Setup was a little intimidating and confusing, the picture guide was not extremely helpful, I really would have preferred some more instructions, especially when it came to printing on my Android devices. It gave instructions for iOS and basically said figure out the differences on your own. After we got through the painful setup everything else has been a breeze. The HP Smart App makes printing from any device easy. I swap back and forth scanning and printing between all the family's devices. I was really impressed by the scanner function, it gave high quality hi res scans of my photos amazing! I love that I can scan documents or photos from any of my devices and it goes straight to that device so handy. Connecting seamlessly to google drive and photos from all our different accounts and devices is so handy. Printer is very quiet, print quality is great, handles colored pages and book pages really well. Of course it's not a specialty printer for doing hi res photo prints, it's a workhouse so everything is great.

Professional Printer
This printer works with my Apple computer, tablet, and smartphone through the HP smart app. I would say that any complaints made on this printer are from people who didn't understand how to set this printer up. Yes, I had to order a separate USB cable to connect the printer, but after that, it was smooth sailing and connects to my WiFi every time. The ink tanks are large and no mess, it will save you tons of money on ink for years to come, hints the larger price tag. HP is a good brand, any information you give them regarding your printer will only help in research and development in the long run as they ask for your permission to send them this information. The company isn't trying to pry on your personal life when asking questions about why you need a printer or recording how often you print. They just want to see who is buying their specific printers and for what reason, as well as how often it is used, to make better products and decisions in the future. This printer is worth every penny I paid for it, and I'm sure it will serve me for years to come. One con I can think of is it doesn't hold that much paper in the tray, but for a small business or personal use, I think this is more than enough.
