Well now that we're stuck with in home learning a printer that could handle daily use was a necessity. I'm still a little hesitant about the purchase price but hopefully the ink will last as long as it claims and it will all be worth it. Setup was a little intimidating and confusing, the picture guide was not extremely helpful, I really would have preferred some more instructions, especially when it came to printing on my Android devices. It gave instructions for iOS and basically said figure out the differences on your own. After we got through the painful setup everything else has been a breeze. The HP Smart App makes printing from any device easy. I swap back and forth scanning and printing between all the family's devices. I was really impressed by the scanner function, it gave high quality hi res scans of my photos amazing! I love that I can scan documents or photos from any of my devices and it goes straight to that device so handy. Connecting seamlessly to google drive and photos from all our different accounts and devices is so handy. Printer is very quiet, print quality is great, handles colored pages and book pages really well. Of course it's not a specialty printer for doing hi res photo prints, it's a workhouse so everything is great. ... show more

My husband and I have never bothered getting a printer for our house because I can easily get things printed at work. The pandemic changed that and left us at a loss since I've switched to working from home. We decided to invest in a printer for the house and I got the opportunity to try out this HP Smart Tank Plus 551 at a discounted rate to share my experience. First we took it out of the box and were impressed with the sleek design and appropriate heft of the product. Since this printer is set up with bluetooth, we didn't have to be limited to where we put it, and the range is perfect for our house. We added the ink and set up all of our devices in minutes. I'm genuinely impressed with how fast and easy we were able to get everything going. My husband printed his first document at home and grinned like a little kid with the excitement of Christmas day. According to the instructions, the ink should last a long time (like two years with standard printing). We completed the test page and copied it based on the directions. The words and pictures came out crisp and clear, as with any standard professional printing job. Even the copies came out nicely! Our first printing job was my husband's class syllabus (about 7 pages) which printed really fast and it even showed the color nicely. Ok, so the printer works well. It will come up with an error message from time to time and I have to open and close it for the error to go away so I wouldn't be comfortable guaranteeing wireless printing on the go. But, not being a photo printer, I think the quality is pretty good. I've printed a little over 2000 full color pages so far and the ink is just about ready to be replaced, so definitely great value there. I've only had a paper jam twice. Works for what I need but a little buggy in the software department and I don't like that I can't print borderless on regular paper... it only prints borderless for photo paper and it prints differently for the 2 types of paper. ... show more

I purchased this product/printer for home use very minimal and the reason I picked this specific one is because the ink lasts longer then normal printers! I had a bad experience with it from day one, the printer couldn’t pick up internet connection which was very frustrating. Another problem the paper gets jammed now I am unable to use it. Amazon will not take responsibility for it since it’s been a few month since I bought it, it’s very upsetting that I was never able to use it since it never worked properly and now I have to buy another printer. I do not recommend this product. I do not give this any stars I had to put one since this review would not go through otherwise. ... show more

This printer works with my Apple computer, tablet, and smartphone through the HP smart app. I would say that any complaints made on this printer are from people who didn't understand how to set this printer up. Yes, I had to order a separate USB cable to connect the printer, but after that, it was smooth sailing and connects to my WiFi every time. The ink tanks are large and no mess, it will save you tons of money on ink for years to come, hints the larger price tag. HP is a good brand, any information you give them regarding your printer will only help in research and development in the long run as they ask for your permission to send them this information. The company isn't trying to pry on your personal life when asking questions about why you need a printer or recording how often you print. They just want to see who is buying their specific printers and for what reason, as well as how often it is used, to make better products and decisions in the future. This printer is worth every penny I paid for it, and I'm sure it will serve me for years to come. One con I can think of is it doesn't hold that much paper in the tray, but for a small business or personal use, I think this is more than enough. ... show more
