  • This is actually an economical choice from HP...
Color: OOV White / Portobello
I’ve avoided HP printers for years now for two basic reasons: 1) the exorbitant price of HP's OEM supplies, and; 2) HP’s messing with firmware to lock out non-OEM supplies. Together, these two factors turned me from a longtime HP fan into a HP avoider. Now I have this HP printer. I didn’t buy it. I got it free in return for this review from Amazon's Vine program. I’m still not sure I’m willing to give my money to HP, but as a “cartridge free”, refillable printer (what other printer companies call a “tank” printer) this printer does in a sense resolve the main issues that have kept me from HP for some time now. You can buy a years’ worth of ink from HP for less than $100 (a big-bottle CMY set from HP is about $60 and a larger BK bottle is another $20) and I actually think this printer may work with non-OEM ink, but I’m never going to try because of the reasonable price HP has set for its own ink. OEM ink is far preferable to non-OEM in my opinion, and this thing prints a lot for very little money compared with other cartridge-type HP printers, making OEM affordable. I have a Canon tank printer much like this one from HP—same duty rating, same cost, same AIO abilities (almost). Like this HP, my Canon is rated negatively by online reviewers who compare it to the Epson tank printers. I don’t care about the reviews. Despite being kind of a printer snob, I’m more than satisfied with my Canon tank printer and have had nothing but success with it over a number of years now. This HP printer is going to make my son (whom I have given it to) just as happy as the Canon makes me. This HP printer is a tad slower than the Canon (and slower than its Epson equivalent), but I use these printers at home where speed isn’t of the essence. I’m not doing many hundreds of pages a month, probably just 100 pages in the average month, and I’m happy with this printer’s speed. I like the multi-document sheet feeder. It works reliably and you can put a fairly large sheaf of papers in the tray which it will scan or copy just fine. I don’t like the printer’s lack of the ability to enter settings from a screen on the printer. You have to adjust settings via app. In theory I like the ability to send faxes from the printer over the internet using an HP facility for sending faxes to phone lines from an internet-connected fax machine (lacking a phone connection). This ability is free for the first year, but will require a subscription after a year—something I will not pay for. Nevertheless, this is a solid printer, worth your money and it comes with the HP pedigree. I may have been won back to buying HP products with my own money by this machine. It’s that good—and that much better than HP’s old way of bleeding its customers dry for consumables. ... show more

  • Super impressive!
Color: OOV White / Portobello
I've been an HP printer loyalist for *years*. In fact, my previous HP was starting to give me a little grief (I mean, it is at least 5 years old or thereabouts), so I had already begun researching which HP model I'd buy next. When this Smart Tank became available, I was all over it! I'm so glad I made the switch. The biggest game-changer for me is the Smart Tank ink system. I honestly don't think I'd want to go back to cartridges. Refilling the tanks is incredibly easy—just insert the bottle and let it do its thing. No squeezing, no ink explosions, no wondering if you're about to wear cyan for the rest of the day. The technology behind it is pretty amazing. Print quality is exactly what I've come to expect from HP: crisp text, vibrant colors, and clean-looking documents. The wireless setup was straightforward, and I love being able to print from my computer or phone without thinking twice about it. The scanner, copier, fax, and automatic document feeder are all welcome additions, making this a great all-around home office printer. I also appreciate that the included ink should last a long time. Since I don't print constantly, knowing I won't be worrying about ink every few weeks is a huge plus. Now, I do miss the "good old days" when you bought a printer and... that was it. No monthly subscriptions, no extra decisions to make, just buy new ink cartridges when the time came, and you couldn't print until they were replaced. 😄 That said, because I don't print a ton, I'm able to opt into HP's lowest subscription tier, which I can live with. It's not my favorite aspect of modern printers, but it's manageable for my printing habits. The only printer in my house that isn't an HP is a competitor's color laser printer that I use exclusively for printing my homemade wine labels. Unfortunately, inkjet and wine bottles don't always play nicely together—unless you're going for the "Oops, I spilled water and accidentally created a beautiful watercolor masterpiece" look. 😂🍷 That laser printer is fast approaching end-of-life, though. I've had it for going on (gasp!) 20 years, and I honestly haven't fired it up recently, so at this point I'm not even sure if it's still among the living! Because of how much I've enjoyed HP printers over the years—and now this Smart Tank in particular—I'm seriously considering replacing it with an HP color laser printer when the time comes. Overall, this feels like a worthy upgrade. The Smart Tank system alone has won me over, the print quality is excellent, and it has all the features I need in one machine. Five stars! Here's hoping this one sticks around for as many years as my last HP... although if it could somehow also make coffee while it's printing, I certainly wouldn't complain. 😂 ... show more

  • It has issues!
Color: OOV White / Portobello
So, what's good about this printer? 1. Smart Tank Ink, the best think about this range of printers, easy to fill, economical and long lasting between refills, produces good quality prints. 2. Reasonable footprint, a good size for most computer desks, office space etc. 3. multiple connection options, it uses WiFi, Direct Network connection (RJ45 Network Cable) and USB to computer. 4. All-in-One, Printer, Fax and Scan, Duel Sided printing and Document Feeder. What's not so good? 1. Build quality is very cheap, many parts feel very fragile with limited pressure applied, Ink caps, Print Head module, paper drawer etc. 2. It comes with enough Ink to fill the wells once, is this really 3 years' worth of Ink, as advertised? 3. The Magic Display? this replaces a standard LED screen, nothing magic about it, it is mounted on the top lip of the printer and is only viewable from the top view of the printer, if you place the printer on a shelf above eye level, you can't see it, a very bad design decision! which limits where you can place the printer, plus the only input is hiting a checkbox to select printer options. 4. You can only setup a WiFi connection with the HP software, there is no way, now to setup a WiFi connection directly from the Printer Screen (Magic Display) as with older HP printers. What is bad! 1. The HP software (latest version downloaded from the HP website) I installed this printer on tree computers, one Windows 10 and two Windows 11 systems, I am having but problems with every install, I was able to setup WiFi on first setup only to have the Hp software get stuck on an endless loop during the setup an HP account screen, I let it run for an hour before hitting end task on the app, also it kept asking me for a Fax and Print to Network password during setup, but the app would not take any password to procced, Default password, Pin #, Serial number etc., there is nothing in the directions or online about this issue, my only option each time was to cancel the dialog box generating an error each time, I experienced this on all computers I tried to install the software on, I was able to download the complete setup drivers, then manually install the printer, just to get it to print at all and this took multiple times to do so, I am aware of Microsoft recently changing how the operating system handles printers now as part of the problem, but HP is way behind in updating its printer drivers, this is the most frustrating part of setting up this printer, the printing is still unreliable, sometimes not printing at all. 2. Print speed, this is pretty slow for a high-end printer. 3. The price! no way is this a $500 printer, way overpriced for what you get, the build quality etc. now at $300 I would not complain, but for $500 you can get a serious professional Office model with faster print speeds, easier setup and will last forever. ... show more

  • No More Expensive Ink—This Printer Pays for Itself
Color: OOV White / Portobello
The HP Smart Tank 7603 All-in-One Printer has been an absolute game changer for our household. We were constantly frustrated with traditional ink cartridge printers—it felt like we were buying ink every other week, and without fail, one color would run out at the worst possible time. Even worse, some printers wouldn’t let you print a simple black-and-white document if a color cartridge was empty. It was beyond frustrating. Switching to the HP Smart Tank 7603 completely solved that problem. The refillable ink tank system is incredibly efficient, and the amount of ink you get right out of the box lasts a surprisingly long time. Yes, the upfront cost is higher than your typical cartridge-based printer, but you make that money back quickly with how little you spend on ink refills. It’s one of those purchases where the long-term savings easily justify the initial investment. With my wife working from home full-time, having a reliable printer isn’t optional—it’s essential. This printer has delivered on that need without any headaches. It handles everyday printing tasks with ease, whether it’s documents, forms, or color prints, and everything comes out clean and consistent. Beyond printing, it also has all the features you’d expect from a solid all-in-one machine. Scanning and copying are quick and easy, and the wireless connectivity makes it simple to print from multiple devices around the house. Setup was straightforward, and once it’s up and running, it just works. Overall, this printer delivers exactly what it promises: high-volume printing without the constant cost and hassle of cartridges. After using the HP Smart Tank 7603, there’s no way we’d ever go back to a traditional ink cartridge printer. If you print regularly—especially in a home office setting—this is absolutely worth it. ... show more

  • Finally, a Printer Designed for People Who Actually Print
Color: OOV White / Portobello
After years of dealing with expensive cartridges and constantly worrying about running out of ink, switching to HP's Smart Tank system has been a game changer. The refillable ink tanks are easy to use, and knowing that the printer comes with enough ink for thousands of pages gives real peace of mind. Print quality is excellent for both documents and color graphics. Text comes out crisp and sharp, while colors are vibrant without looking oversaturated. The scanner and copier also perform well, making this a true all-in-one solution for a home office. Setup was straightforward, wireless printing has been reliable, and the mobile printing features make it easy to send documents directly from a phone or tablet. I also appreciate the automatic document feeder, which saves a lot of time when scanning or copying multiple pages. What really stands out is the long-term value. While the initial purchase price is higher than many traditional printers, the savings on ink make it well worth the investment if you print regularly. If you're tired of constantly replacing cartridges and want a dependable printer with excellent print quality and extremely low operating costs, this Smart Tank model is an easy recommendation. It has quickly become one of the best office upgrades I've made. ... show more

The setup was simple. HP's app guided me thru everything step-by-step. filling the ink tanks was mess-free. just plug the bottles in and let them drain.
