Its a good solid printer. Its been almost 5 years that I have been using this same printer. However the wifi goes bad quickly and it only works on USB now. Also the paper may get jammed at times. And it can also take quite some time at start -- lot of noises -- for many minutes. You have to wait 5 minutes before the first print. Besides these 3 issues, there are no problems at all. Oh, and the cartridges still seem so expensive. This printer debuted in 2015. Seven years later, there is no reason for the cartridges to cost that much. By now the price should have fallen. Also this printer doesn't allow generic cartridges. It must be HP ink only. Built in auto lock was inserted by HP so that only their ink can be used --- that's just so wrong. This is a great budget printer that does color graphics well and photos reasonably well. I can't give it five stars because setup was problematic and some components "seem" fragile (such as the print head) so durability may be an issue. With that said, I had difficulty getting the printer to communicate/install with my computer initially. I wanted to use it wirelessly on my home network, but installation failed inexplicably even though the setup software recognized my network ssid and security passcode correctly. I then tried to install it using a usb cable and finally an Ethernet cable, but installation would never complete. I referred to the manual, but it was useless. In fact the manual says that if the light pattern I had where the power button led and ink level leds are flickering then there is an irrecoverable hardware error. Well, it turned out that the solution was to remove and reinstall all of the ink cartridges after power cycling the printer on-off-on. This initiated a hard reset of the printer, which enabled it to accept the new configuration parameters. Make sure the printer is on when you remove then reinstall the cartridges. I hope this helps others. If not, give HP support a try (use the chat option if possible so the tech can take control of the computer remotely). The phone option that you might see in some of the other reviews here on amazon is worthless. You call the number and a recording tells you to use the online help feature for support. Very disingenuous of HP to respond in this manner, but with that said, the tech support I received via chat was awesome. I never felt rushed by the tech person and he/she spent a lot of time debugging the installation and answering other questions I had (such as how to update firmware). Bottom line, this is money well spent once you get it installed. ... show more

I replaced an older Deskjet HP Printer with this model. It is a little bigger than my old one, makes a few noises before printing, is not a big deal, prints quite well, in fact, and has a bunch of cool features. I like the paper-saving option of printing on both sides. My son had it out of the box and installed it in 20 minutes. The generous paper tray loads nicely. No more annoying paper jams. Looks nice on my desk. I believe this model does a whole lot more than I need but one never knows. Time will tell on how it goes through the ink cartridges. I print a lot of shipping labels. Printing from my phone and iPad is a breeze. Overall I’m quite pleased with my purchase and can recommend. ... show more

I got my printer today, took it out of the box, plugged it in and went to set it up. I am a single women with very low tech skills so I alway get nervous setting up anything technology related. I followed the instructions provided to turn it on, put in paper, select the paper direction. Not many of the instruction were on the paper provided. Next to set up the wifi/wireless printer it had me go to a webpage and I followed the instructions and I quickly started to get flustered because it continued to tell me it was not connecting I had done everything it told me to do. THEN MAGICALLY, my printer started printing a page about 15 minutes after it had been turned on and had been sitting there. I have no clue how it printed and if it is normal that this pages prints but I attached the page because following these instructions was how I got the printer to print. The instructions are for the phone to use your wife to connect to the printer so I did it on my Iphone 6 and tried to print a document and it totally printed. I repeated the steps on my mac the same way as with the phone going to my wifi, selecting the print putting in the passcode and then printed and again it worked. What I figured out is that in order to print wirelessly each time you want to print you have to go to your phone or computer wifi setting select the printer then go back to what you want to print and it will then see the printer as an option and will print for you. It did not see the printer as a printing option until I went to wifi and selected it. I am very happy I figured it out and this paper totally saved me. ... show more

I have had this printer now for over a year, and the print quality is still the same as when I purchased it. For such an inexpensive printer, I honestly didn't expect it to last this long, but it works perfectly. It handles cardstock (which is why I purchased it) flawlessly. It is so hard to find a printer that will actually pull the cardstock through straight and not jam. The only thing I wish it had was a scanner, but, for the price, it is worth getting a separate scanner/copier. ... show more
