  • Print density..how past 5....too light
Very happy with this purchase so far, read reviews everywhere for probably 10 hours. Color not needed; don't want a printer that won't work without it, I only need black and white, and this services everything. So far, the faxing, copying, printing I've tried are excellent, will later try scanning. Customer support outstanding; worth thousands. They even called me back the next morning out of concern about my fax with no prompting from myself. Now I'm in business! I used the Amazon credit card deal towards this purchase. Update: How can I get Print Density to go beyond 5? Nothing works when I press numbers beyond that up to 10. This scans way too light to be useable. ... show more

  • Frustrating software and hardware issues, hard to reach tech support, and bloatware!
This printer has been a huge time sink for a variety of reasons. I am a computer-savvy individual who knows how to add printer ports, set fixed IP addresses, and configure printer settings. Setting everything up right, this printer prints to Tray 1 (the Priority tray) no matter what, as long as there is some type of paper product in that tray. A call into HP tech support routes all tech support calls to their close to useless support website rather than a live customer service rep (hint -- just stay on the line after it tries to get rid of you and after awhile you will get an option for live support). The live support rep confirmed that this was a problem with the printer or the software. There is no option to set the paper source to Tray 2 (the Main tray) -- the only possible settings are Tray 1, Printer Auto-Select (which it does poorly), or Manual Feed. Hey HP, if your Auto-select software doesn't work, then how about including an option to print to Tray 2? Another irritant has been being all but forced to set up a WSD rather than a standard TCP/IP port. Although WSD ports are good for simple situations and establish the connection automatically, they are riddled with problems related to subsequent IP address conflicts and other glitches, and a TCP/IP port setup is much preferable. After fiddling with it for a long time, I was eventually able to establish a TCP/IP port with a fixed IP address, only to find out that my Desktop icon link to the HP Printer Assistant no longer works and will only work if I go back to the WSD port! Hey HP and Microsoft, how about letting the end user decide whether they want a WSD or TCP/IP port instead of trying to ram the WSD port down our throats? Yet another issue that some other users have complained about for years with no response from HP is that this model and some others has a bright green flashing LED light to indicate standby mode that is quite annoying, especially if this printer is in your bedroom. How about an option to turn this light off? A whole product line has been developed to address this problem (see dim-its; I wonder if HP is an investor). Also, during startup with the CD, even though I selected the "Customize" option I was not given the opportunity to not install seven pieces of bloatware that I have since uninstalled. Finally, buyers should understand that this printer has a separate image drum rather than having it built into the toner cartridge. This adds a $90 expense at some point down the line, and has also confused some buyers who thought that they were buying toner instead of the image drum because of the confusing way that it has been marketed on amazon. How does this thing print, scan, copy, and fax, you might ask. I don't know -- I've been too busy with all of these other issues to find out! ... show more

  • Sorry, haters
Sorry for the few individuals that have had problems, but I’m not one of them. Just unboxed it this morning, set it up on my WiFi and have printed using two iPads, two iPhones, a MacBook and a PC already. And I’ve scanned documents to a thumb drive and made copies, and used the auto document feeder. If the first two hours are any indication this HP printer is a winner! ... show more

  • If you want a printer with wifi that ALWAYS work; then buy this printer!
After experiencing Xerox and Brother printers with malfunctioning wifi, the HP printer is perfection. The set-up was amazingly easy. 1) The printer toner was already inside of the printer out of the box 2) Just plug USB cable into your computer, and it prints immediately; no set-up wizards or driver downloads, or at least that's noticeable. IT JUST WORKS!!! 3) Wifi set-up was straight forward and easy and has never dropped the signal, unlike Brother printers, (read the reviews, you'll see everyone has the same issue with Brother printers dropping wifi connection). As far as Xerox, they're worse. The HP printer thus far has been great and I would definitely recommend it and buy again. ... show more

  • PERFECT PRINTER
My wife & I discussed what we needed in a printer and if color was really ever used, its not. So, we decided to buy a laser printer over Ink, we're ecstatic with our purchase! No more changing expensive cartridges weekly, no more blurred prints, WiFi, EtherNet & BlueTooth connected printing. I can now print from my cell phone without having to load an App or configure IP stuff. Works nearly instantly, prints both sides, 1 cartridge last for thousands of copies. Copies onto a USB drive. Bottomline, we love this Printer! ... show more

  • Easy to set up, works every time, good print quality, zero problems
This is a little louder than the Xerox/Samsung it replaced, but it lacks the feature/bug in which my old printer would get possessed and spit out pages with a few lines of wingdings across the top until the paper tray was emptied. The HP printer is perfect. It does exactly what I want it to do: scan, copy, and print. The paper feeder works for copying and scanning. It prints duplex without jamming. I've gotten 700 pages from the first 50% of the toner cartridge it came with. It doesn't sing, or do dishes, and hasn't bought me flowers (yet) but it's otherwise a great little printer. I'm so delighted I bought it. ... show more

  • Very pleased with this printer
Very pleased with this printer. Setup took about 45 seconds. Was able to quickly connect a Mac and PC for wireless printing, and printing from my iPhone is a snap.

  • super fast setup
this printer is FAST. Even printing double sided, prints are out faster than any laser printer I've used at work. Scanner function works very well, and allows for easy rotating and re-sizing for copies. Once on the network, every device in the house immediately recognized it and I have had no problems printing to it from my tablet, phone, laptop, etc. ... show more
