  • I Finally Found the HP Laser Printer I Have Been Waiting For
I have purchased several different HP printers over the years. Each one of them always had the classic HP issues... Hard to set up, get the USB cable out because wi-fi don't work, screwy software, HP support was basically non-existent, but when the rare case popped up where you actually did get ahold of a semi-live person, their English skills quickly stole your joy that someone actually answered the phone, and your issue was likely not solved satisfactorily. And print quality was always hit or miss. Good ole HP, right? But I have always subscribed to brand loyalty, and despite those classic and ridiculous HP issues, I stuck with the brand. So, I needed a small laser printer that could also do copy/scan, didn't cost a small fortune, and hopefully didn't require a rocket scientist degree to set up. I liked what I saw in the MFP M140we on its Amazon page, I was curious about the new HP+ program, and since the price was definitely right, I pulled the trigger and once again bought an HP laser printer. I am always skeptical about buying HP, which I know is silly. Just go buy another brand. But I don't personally believe other printer brands are much different with all these above listed issues, and therefore, I have always just stuck with buying HP. And for the first time ever, I am a truly satisfied customer. This little printer just blew me away in how incredibly easy it was to set up, including an amazingly easy wi-fi connection. The HP+ Smart app can be found in either the Microsoft or Apple stores and it has revolutionized the way I look at an HP printer. It simply works by taking all the stress away from setting up an HP printer. It set up an account, connected to wi-fi, then walked me through removing all the transportation locking devices. I also chose to utilize the 6-month trial of HP+, which will automatically send out a new cartridge set to arrive well before I run out. You simply select your monthly printing needs from 50 to 1500 pages per month, set up your card to pay the corresponding fee, and the app takes it from there. I chose the 50 pages per month, which will cost $1.99/month after the 6-month free trial. (I believe you get up to 1500 pages per month in the trial, and it will keep you stocked with cartridges.) There is no fee other than that monthly charge. Shipping is free and there is also a program to recycle your used cartridge. The printer checks the cartridge level without any input from you. So, I will never run out for $1.99/month. It does have an unused carryover, and you can change your plan at any time, or just cancel altogether, if for some reason don't like the program. You also get another year warranty if you take the HP+ option, which gives this little $170 laser printer a 2-year warranty. Be aware this printer will only accept HP cartridges. No other brand will work. The print speed and quality are excellent, the scans and copying have been flawless thus far. The HP+ Smart has taken over for the bad English, mostly non-existent customer support, and I just think this is one heck of a deal on an HP printer designed to be a simple machine that will adequately take care of my home printing needs. And it won't let me run out of cartridges either, which in my book, makes this the absolute best HP printer I have ever personally owned. It is seriously hard to find any faults. I am extremely satisfied. ... show more

  • WILL NOT WORK WITHOUT NETWORK/INTERNET connectivity
I get this message more often these days than not. I had about a one hour discussion with a tech/service person (or AI, it was hard to tell) about a year ago, maybe 3 months after buying the printer who explained that yes, internet connection IS required. Period. So without it, it's a stupid $130 box sitting on your desk. Oh, and if you use instant ink? Any other cartridge you buy - even HP manufactured, won't work. Not while you're subscribed, and you WILL go over the limit and it will cost $20/month instead of the $3.99 they say you'll pay for 100 pages. Oh, and it will die at random times, just show an flashing exclamation point, with NO explanation, no reset, and the website/account won't tell you what's wrong with the printer, you'll just have to HP's website, into your account, contact customer service and have them walk you through some arcane IT geek steps to reset "your" printer so you can use it again for another day, or week, month, until it does whatever it does to stop working again. DO NOT BUY. update: Dec 12, 2023. More trouble than it’s worth. Definitely what one other buyer referred to as a “bait and switch.” This will NOT work without being connected to the internet. It is NOT a stand alone printer otherwise. With all the problems I’ve had with it, tech services was nice enough to send TWO cartridges because, you see, somehow it keeps getting disconnected from the innerwebs while they keep billing me $7.99 a month because I tend to print over 100 pages a month, but for some reason they didn’t send a cartridge and, the printer would NOT WORK with the spare I bought when I first bought the printer. $50 in the garbage. So I’ve been using it a LOT these past few months but all of a sudden it won’t connect to WiFi. This is new. It’s usually an internet connection problem with the flashing “!” Not being one to throw good money after bad, I figure in 18 months I’ve paid for this printer twice over at $8 a month and have gotten pretty good at resetting it every time it quits on me, but this is the last straw. DO NOT BUY DO NOT BUY DO NOT BUY. This’ll get donated to Goodwill tomorrow and I’ll buy a Brother printer for the same price. Garbage. ... show more

  • Printer works great. Make Safari default browser during set up on Mac for set up.
This printer must be connected to the internet to use -- after a handful of pages, it will give you an error stating the account has to be set up. The app is available through the Apple app store. It is a bit slow to download and load. Before you begin, make Safari your default browser (you can switch back to your preferred after this is all set up). At one point it will say "sign into the HP yadda yadda" to create an account. It will not matter if you are logged in to the site, the app is going to open up a browser window to pull credentials. In my case, it was minimized, so I had to hunt it down by going to "Window" in the upper most bar of the screen. As above: make sure Safari is your default browser during this process. I had mine as Chrome and spent about 15 minutes trying to figure out why the screen kept jumping back when I went to Chrome -- rebooting, removing the printer, etc. all seemed like a weird error I couldn't figure out. Once I put Safari as my default browser, removed the printer, started over in the app, and followed above instructions to find minimized window, it set up reasonably quickly. I hate that this printer is connected to the internet to work but it was (relatively) cheap and serves my needs. I have no problems with any of the device functionality, only the business model and lack of apparent tech cross browser testing. ... show more

  • NICE PRINTER
This is a nice little printer. It works well and is fast and takes up very little room for a laser printer.

  • Small But Does What I Need It To Do
I was looking for a small printer and came across this one. I have been using it about a year with no problems. Works wirelessly and does a great job. I do a lot of Ebay so I print a lot of labels which it handles well.
