  • Just what I needed - I thought. Just changed my mind because of lack of borderless photo printing option.
After my HP DJ4360 started jamming paper after three years of use, I ordered this DJ3000 model HP Deskjet 3000 Printer (CH393A#B1H) to replace it. Just use the printer for home/small business letters and some photo work, mostly on Christmas cards every year. The occasional photo on photo paper, but not a lot. Ordered this late Thursday night in January 2012. Amazon delivered as promised by Saturday. No trouble installing via USB cable, but I wanted to take advantage of the wireless capability too as a second printer. After some confusion on my part on how to set that up - part of the problem being that even though I use Windows XP, my wireless router is an Apple Airport Utility which doesn't have a WPS button, so the printer wasn't finding the wireless or IP address and the computer wasn't finding the printer via wireless either. I finally figured out that I had to start over and reinstall the printer choosing the wireless installation option FIRST, letting the computer find the printer through the USB cable, which was then unplugged to test. That worked immediately. Then, as soon as I plugged the USB cable back in, the computer automaticaly installed the driver for the new device and I now had the printer set up two ways - as a wireless and as a USB connected one. Printed out a business letter and some Avery labels with no problem and no jamming like some people have commented. Very happy so far. If this lasts three years like the last one purchased for the same price (about $60), I'll be a happy camper. Bought this printer in January 2012. It is now July 2012 and I upgraded my compter to an HP Touchsmart desktop in May. Never printed photos from the Deskjet 3000 printer until today. WOW! What a surprise! For the first time ever since I've owned an HP printer (deskjets for almost 20 years), there is no borderless printing option for any size photo. I tried to do 4x6 and 5x7 and there are borders all around, 1/4" on three sides, then 1/2" on fourth side. This is in every size you want to print in. Can't even center the photo on the page. Have tried in Picasa, Adobe Photoshop, and HP's own photo software. Was always able to do this on any other deskjet, even though I have never bought a specifically photo printer before. And apprently they don't give you this information when you research the printer. They do say it prints photos of any size up to 8x10. But nothing about borderless no longer being an option. ANd none of the programs I mentioned allow you to center or resize the image. Bad bad move on HP's part. No wonder they are laying people off now. So my disappoint also lies in while I had hoped to have this computer for three years, I will now have to upgrade to a more expensive printer before Xmas to do my cards. What a waste of money! One good thing I will say though - for regular document printing, it is working great and my early review stands. But I was very disappointed to discover this missing photo feature with no correction available anywhere online. ... show more

  • decent printer, but seller send you a REFURBISHED, not new, item
No where on this page does it say that the item is refurbished. I thought I was buying a brand new printer, but I was sent a refurbished one with the seller not even bothering to ship it out in a box. They just slap on the shipping label onto the retail packaging and hope for the best I guess. Shipping was quick, and the refurbished printer (along with the recertified ink), works fine, albeit there's a broken piece of plastic on the back. However, I can still justify this purchase due to their cheap price (bought it under $60 with shipping) and my urgent need for a printer for school. I think its deceitful of the seller not to mention that they send out refurbished goods, but for the price, as long it prints my schoolwork, I'm good. On to the review for the printer: Printer does a decent job for the price. Very light weight and simple design, easy to use. Has wireless connection, which I needed to set up with the included disk, but no trouble connecting the printer to my laptop. Includes USB cable in case you don't have wireless. Printer speed is a little slower than what I'm used to, but not slow enough that it is inconvenient. I think the paper tray hold up to 25 sheets or something, but since I'm only printing stuff for school this factor is not important. Printing quality is fantastic for such a cheap printer. Not sure how much ink is used per page but I read in other reviews that the ink cartridges don't last very long. I'll update with my experiences once I use the printer a bit more. Definitely a bargain if all you need to do is some light printing. ... show more

  • Unconscionable Practices . . . All 'Round!
I cannot fully express the utter contempt and loathing I have for Hewlett-Packard's printer division and the software that runs their devices. Having just run out of the original ink that shipped with the Deskjet 3000 (purchased here), I replaced the empty Black cartridge with a "remanufactured" unit (purchased elsewhere). Immediately upon its insertion in the printer, I was presented with a message on its small display screen that this cartridge was COUNTERFEIT or USED . . . and would nullify the warranty for the printer! The software installed on my iMac then revealed, too, that I had, indeed, inserted a COUNTERFEIT or USED cartridge in the Deskjet--AND--as punishment for not using HP's ORIGINAL PRODUCT, the printer would no longer reveal how much ink was left in the "fake" unit! WHAT?!?!?!?!? For the transgression of using less-expensive ink in a printer I paid good money for, HP intentionally and unconscionably DISABLED, in part, the functionality of this printer! IMHO this practice is unethical and, perhaps, even criminal! ** HP to consumers: If you don't use OUR overpriced ink in OUR printers, you'll be s-o-r-r-y! Your printer will no longer work as advertised! You'll have to limp along and guess how much ink is left in each of your "counterfeit" cartridges! Sucks to be you! Well, here's the deal, HP: I was trying one of your devices again after decades of avoiding them (for this and similar reasons) to see how it stacked up against comparable units from Canon, Epson, and Kodak. Needless to say, I will NEVER AGAIN purchase or evaluate an HP device, and I will make sure no one in my company, family, and circle of friends does either. No wonder your company is going down the tubes (down almost 50% from its 52-week high)! Clearly, you disrespect (hate?) your own customers, the surest way to lose our loyalty and business support. Shame on you, HP. Shame. ------------ ** Amazon itself sells a goodly amount of "counterfeit" HP ink cartridges (see Sophia Global Remanufactured Units), so beware of using them on an HP Deskjet 3000 as well! ... show more
