When I first looked at the box I thought it was the wrong computer but the seller put the additions onto it which the seller quickly responded to me when I went to return it. This unit - a 2yo still-in-the-box new HP laptop performs admirably. As an electrical engineer with 40+ years in IT industry, this US$250 unit was a perfect fit for the friend who I was setting up. Everything works well, as expected. Great viewing on bright screen, lightweight, quiet and long battery life (despite the time in storage). It was a pity that HP took money from McAfee to pre-load their pester-ware anti-virus software. But I removed it and installed the entirely-free 'AVG Free' virus protection software. I think keeping an eye out for vendors clearing out 'new-old stock' is a win-win if the price is right. ... show more

    • Do not buy. Laptop crashed twice in 4 months

TL:DR this laptop will refuse to turn on after less than a month of intense usage such as watching cat videos on YouTube. I purchased this laptop in August 2024 to replace a 5 year old HP laptop that died. In late September 2024, this laptop suddenly refused to charge and would not turn on even when plugged in. HP took 4 weeks to complete a warranty repair. I received the laptop back just before Halloween. On December 6, 2024, the now "repaired" laptop, suddenly stopped charging and refused to turn on. HP now says they are going to charge me to repair the computer because "it was upgraded by the reseller." The reseller is, of course, The HP Store. Amazon offered me a refund minus a $99 restocking fee, which I accepted as I will never purchase or use another HP product. The laptop also came loaded to the gunwale with junk software. Which I got to delete twice, bc HP reinstalled all of it after the repair. And now we have passive aggressive FAQs: So is it a good value? No, it's a paper weight. What's the storage capacity? I don't know, it won't turn on. Is it touch screen? You can touch the screen, but it won't do anything, since it won't turn on. What's the sound quality? Silence. ... show more

The laptop works great. I am happy with product. However, the seller is impossible to get a hold of other than through Amazon. They provided a phone number on the box which I called 4 times and never received a call back. Windows 11 Home would not activate. That was the reason why I was trying to contact the seller. I did not hear from them so I called HP. HP stated the reason Windows would not activate was that the seller did not use Genuine HP parts when they upgraded the laptop which flagged the system. It also voided the manufacturer's warranty on those specific parts. HP helped me solve the problem since they have 24/7 service, and this was a Friday evening. I received instructions from the seller the following week on how to fix the problem which I had already corrected with HP's help. Seller warrants the whole machine for 1 year, but my question is how does one get service if they cannot contact the seller easily I am not happy with the seller due to the inability to be able to reach them easily. ... show more
