  • Very Good Book If You're Picking Up Your Horn After Years...
Format: Paperback
I was a very good sax player in high school, which was decades ago. This book was an excellent guide to picking up the horn again. Each lesson introduces a musical key, so you start with C and learn a new sharp or flat each day. The various drills are very good and interesting. I was actually able to play again (not well, but able to knock off a tune with only a few squeaks) in 14 days. HOWEVER, I still can read music and notation and I recalled what fingers went on what keys for various notes. If you have no experience at all reading music, I think the book would still be great, but you'll have to spend a lot more time focusing on learning how to read music and notation. ... show more

I really like the presentation of this book, it is easily digestible and the online audio is of the highest quality and contributes enormously to making this a self-directed learning tool. I highly recommend it!

  • Doesnt show what finger goes where.
Format: Paperback
I am total beginner and I had to purchase another beginner book that shows and teaches beginner basics that this book does not. I think this book is more for a person who knows how to read music and has some familiaity with the saxaphone. I started using this book right away, or at least tried to. I purchased another beginner book from the music store as explained above. Its very difficult because this book does not show or tell which finger goes where. As far as what keys to press I finally figured some of the pictograms out. There is a sax play along to download, which I havn't done yet but will to see if it helps. ... show more

  • Best book you can get, my opinion, to start learning sax.
Format: Paperback
This book tells you how to play rhythm, articulation, tonguing, etc., as well as the keys reading notes. You will be introduced to the blues scales. Does not go into major or minor scales except for the C major, but you can get those from a method book(ironic no doubt). But that does not take away from the usefulness of this book and besides the user can get audio files to listen and play to. You are going to love this book!!!! I know I did and I’m old (not saying). ... show more
