  • Great
Format: Paperback
I picked this up for my daughter, who is learning to play the saxophone (a teen). After reading some of the reviews, I was a little nervous that it wouldn't be as good as I'd heard, but my worries were unwarranted. The printing is fine, and the construction is just right to learn to play the saxophone. It builds, step-by-step, and offers the needed basis before continuing to the next stage. I'd read that this one was very recommendable and can only agree. As a musician who has taught children several instruments over the years, I can recommend this book to those who are a bit older and want to really learn how to play the instrument with a great basis. ... show more

  • Learning fingering along with correct note, I feel is best to learn to read music.
Format: Paperback
Good but not the best because the lessons fingering you have to go back to find what fingering for note. Sorry but Alfred Weber Alto Sax student I found is better. When you learn note it shows fingering for that note at lesson point. This book doesn't. You have to go back to the front sheet to find what fingering for that note and also look to see what note that is. ... show more

  • Excellent book since the 1930s
Format: Paperback
I am a band director and have used several method books over the years. The Rubank series was written in the 1930s and still remains one of the best out there. It is simple and logical. It does not clutter the page with images or unnecessary information. It focuses on fundamentals, scales, and fingering options. Highly recommend. There is also an intermediate and advanced method to follow. This easy method however could certainly be used for middle and high school students. The final page is all 16th notes going around the circle of 5ths as arpeggios and their dominant chords. ... show more
