Purchased to work on some door issues while visiting daughter. Arrived timely but found there was overspray paint on the adjustment threads which didn’t allow the blade to be adjusted. I didn’t have time to reorder so had to make a quick trip to the not so nearby box store to buy another one. It looked to be constructed well for the price.

I selected this tool because my Grandpa had one. It always came from his tool chest when we had a woodworking project. The advice was to measure twice and cut once, and since we used a hand saw, there was sometimes an imperfection on the edge of the cut that needed fixing (it was usually when I did the cutting.) When this happened, Grandpa would tell me not to worry; he would take out his wood plane, adjust the blade to the desired depth and run it over the edge. I can smell the wood shavings as I write this. So now I do some DIY. I was working on a project for my wife. I needed to shave some wood off a wood plank; before, I would have gotten a jig saw and an orbital sander and made due, but this time I had the Hoteche No.4 wood plane, and I was able to shave off the wood in small increments until it fit just perfectly into place. I was pleased with how it worked and enjoyed the nostalgic moment that took me back to working with Grandpa. I hope to pass the love of working with my hands and this tool on to my Grandson someday.

Junk i guess that explains the cheep price. I used on 1x1 pine. Maybe a smaller trim board or something. Blade was sharp. But unable to fine adjust both sides of blade. Just poor design.

It is a reasonable plane, not to heavy; not too light. The parts and the blade were secure upon arrival and the item was heavily oiled. Two wheel screws adjust and hold the blade to depth and another plate with a Phillips Screw secure the blade in place. I used this on a sticking existing door jam and it shaved both wood and paint fine. The blade is sharp and adjustment was easy. I don't use a plane often but it is nice to have one on the tool shelf.

While I don't use a hand planer very often (I also have a larger one) they are very handy to have when you just have an edge to smooth or a wooden burr to take off (my larger planer is really to big for these jobs) this little planer is perfect for that. I did test it on a scrap piece of wood and was very impressed with it's performance. Perfect for small fast jobs. The price is excellent!
