  • HOSHANHO deserves to be very proud of their knives!
Size: 7 Pieces Knife Set
In a word - immaculate! The HOSHANHO knife set is a thing of beauty. Every detail regarding the construction, and overall quality of this knife set, and knife block, is honestly represented in its Amazon product listing details, and its product listing's images. I was uncertain if I would like the octagonal grips, but I ordered the knife set on impulse, as my old Martha Stewart brand knife set was in urgent need of replacement. The grips of the HOSHANHOs suit my large hands very well, and I found that the octagonal shape of the grips does a nice job keeping the blade aligned in my hand when making long, precarious cutting strokes on large melons and squashes. My wife has much smaller hands than I, and she finds the grips manageable; she has no concerns about handling even the largest knives in this set. The blades are each flawless, tapered properly, and centered to the grip body on each of the seven knives. I was truly impressed with how uniform and consistent the quality was with each knife in the set. The magnetic knife block really is a functional showpiece. The wood from which the knife block was made must have been chosen by a person with a good eye for grain. The included knife sharpener, which is built in to the top of the knife block, will be useful for all but the serrated bread knife, (as sharpening the serrated edge would be bad for that knife). The only room for improvement in the entire set that I found, would be that I wish threaded inserts and machine screws were used to attach the top of the knife block, to the base of the knife block. I live in a very humid, warm climate, and over time, the wood screws in the knife block would probably loosen, due to heat and humidity. I applied a small amount of epoxy to each wood screw before permanently attaching the base to the top of the knife block - that may not have been necessary, but I want to keep this block and knife set on my counter-top indefinitely. As far as room for improvement regarding the knives in this set goes, try as I might, I could not find any aspect of product quality to disparage. It is rare that I am as impressed with the initial quality of any product I have put in my kitchen during the last twenty years. The HOSHANHO knives were dead-sharp, and ready to be put to work, right when I received them. My cutting skills will need to get lighter, and more refined, as I am not used to working with blades that cut so easily. I used a 10x magnification optical loupe, and carefully inspected both sides of each of the non-serrated blades. I could not find any chipping, cracking, or other flaws that indicate I will have any issues with the cutting edges in the future. The serrated bread knife also passed inspection, which is remarkable, as I have seen flaws near the serrations on other knives that I have inspected in the past. HOSHANHO is either lucky, or they take genuine pride in their workmanship. I am leaning toward HOSHANHO taking pride in their workmanship, as everything in the knife set was so well-made. I have bookmarked the product listing page for HOSHANHOs knife set, for reference later this year, when I make purchases for my Christmas gift recipients. ... show more

  • Beautiful display and extremely sharp!
Size: 7 Pieces Knife Set
If you’ve been wanting a “real” knife set but don’t want to spend time learning brands or building a collection piece-by-piece, this one is a fantastic all-in-one option. I’m not a professional cook. I’m a stay-at-home mom who just loves cooking and always wanted a nice set of knives and from the moment I opened the box, I could tell these were thoughtfully made. ~ Beautiful craftsmanship and comfortable balance The knives feel beautifully crafted, and the ergonomic rosewood handles are a standout. They’re comfortable in my hand and well balanced, which makes a big difference for everyday prep... especially when you’re chopping for meals multiple times a week. ~ Extremely sharp (seriously impressive) They are the sharpest knives I’ve ever seen or used! Cutting feels effortless, and they glide through food cleanly instead of crushing it. So far, I’ve used them on a variety of vegetables and they cut through with ease without requiring much pressure or extra effort. ~ A full set that covers everything I love how this is complete the set is for day-to-day cooking. You get a well-rounded mix (chef knife, bread knife, santoku, nakiri, utility, and a paring knife) so I don’t feel like I’m missing something every time I cook. For household cooking, it truly covers the basics from slicing and dicing to peeling and bread cutting. ~ Magnetic display + built-in sharpening is a smart touch The magnetic knife block is both practical and visually appealing. I like that the knives look decorative while also being safely stored on the holder, and the integrated sharpener is a nice bonus for keeping them performing at their best. ~ One small note about the block When I first ordered the set, I assumed the holder might also double as a true cutting board like a butcher-block. After receiving it, I realized it’s more of a laminated board design for storage/sharpening rather than a traditional cutting surface. That said, it still functions well as a neat, tidy centerpiece for the knives. ~ Overall: This set has made my kitchen prep feel easier and more enjoyable. With the sharpness, the comfortable handles, and the convenience of having everything neatly stored (plus the built-in sharpener), it’s definitely an upgrade I’ve been hoping for. ... show more

  • SHARP, MODERN, LIGHTWEIGHT. Really nice set
Size: 7 Pieces Knife Set
First things first, there are Japanese inspired knives made in china. Other than that, these knives are really really good. I know some people might look at the price and clench their pearls, but it's really worth what you're paying for. I also own a complete set of Miyabi knife block and that cost me $1200-$1500. So for $300, you get a magnetic knife block and some ultra premium japananese inspired knives?! This is worth every dollar spent. You really get all the common knives you mainly use; Chef (general usage for all types of prep work but for heavier duty work), Bread (of course for cutting bread and can also be used to cut things like tomatoes or even proteins with that serrated edge), Nakiri (great for vegetables and can but chops instead of slices for faster prep), Santoku (another great option for general prep work but much lighter on the wrist and better used for thin slicing and lighter prep work), Utility (my favorite knife because its extremely versatile. You can use this for cutting fruits, vegetables, or even deboning chicken. The thin long blade makes it nice to precise cutting), then the Paring (best for fruits, small vegetables and prep work where less motion is needed). The magnetic block is strong as well and it also comes with a sharpener. This is really the best bang for your buck and would be a great home welcoming gift for your friends and family. It's super aesthetic and modern, these knives are extremely sharp, they're light, and you get all the knives needed for your kitchen prep. ... show more

  • Best high quality knives I have ever used!
Size: 7 Pieces Knife Set
I have been trying this knife set out and here are the pros and cons: Pros: - extremely high quality - very ergonomic - razor sharp - holds and edge - easy and quick to sharpen - very strong magnetic knife block - built in knife sharpener Cons: none Overall, This knife set is absolutely beautiful. The knives are just the highest of quality, extremely sharp, and holds a very good edge. They are very ergonomic and comfortable to use. The magnetic knife block is strong and really holds the knives in place very very good. I now have replaced my old cheap knives replaced with knives from this company, 18 total. I have been using knives from this comapny for quite a while know for both everyday kitchen use and processing wild hogs and deer I live off of, and the quality of these knives are among the best hands down. I think they are a good value for the money, $359.99 at the time of ordering. Some may think that is expensive but you get what you pay for and knive made by this company are in my opinion the best. They stand up to processing wild hogs and deer with no problems at all. I really think these knives should last for many many years and may be the last knives I will ever have to buy they are just that good! ... show more

  • Dexter would approve
Size: 7 Pieces Knife Set
Rarely does a product garner a full five stars, and honestly this one doesn't either, but it's a solid 4.7-4.9 so this time I rounded up---HOLD the PRESS!! I just reviewed what the taxable wage equivalent was charged to me ($360) vs what the set is retailing for now, a scant two weeks later (300 bucks) so off comes a star. Sellers!! DON'T DO THAT! Or give back 60 bucks to everyone who paid the bonus premium price...sheesh. Anyway, scary sharp right out of the box. Coated with a thin film of protective oil that washes off easily with a scrub sponge and a dab of Dawn dish soap. Most folks reach for a sheet of printer paper that is typically 20# to 24# to do the paper test. Each of these knives couldn't be bothered with such low grade tests, kinda like Mondo Duplantis skipping attempts at anything less than 5.8 meters (~19 feet for our friends still saddled with the imperial system), so I grabbed a couple flimsy library receipts made with even thinner-than-grocery-store-receipt-paper, which were easily reduced to ribbons in short order. Holy cow but these are sharp. Back when I got my first knife set, my head was filled with what so many of the TV chefs were using, like something German, bombproof and not cheap. Japanese styles like these were nowhere on my radar. Not even aways beyond the horizon. So German is what i got. Even with the the reputation for quality that many things made in Germany, I had to hunt for a set that had the thermoplastic handles properly fitted to the tang, without any gaps to harbor food bits and bacteria. A far cry from this set. Every handle, every transition- tight, solid, gap free. These just sing with quality. And of the knives I've used regularly so far (Santoku, Nakiri and “fruit” or paring to make a “thin slice of lemon peel” for a Vesper martini), they've felt oh so right in my hand. Noticeably lighter than the Deutsch bombers, and with a different but ergonomically friendly balance for chopping veggies, as opposed to to back slicing. Which I got decent at- not pro level line chef type speed, but not too bad for an urban dude who likes simple but tasty, fresh food. The chef’s knife had a tiny, but mostly visual “dimple” mid-blade on the cutting edge, which didn’t seem to affect cutting performance. Just a guess, but it’s the sort of flaw that many folks wouldn’t notice. But I’m not “many folks,” and it caught my eye. And almost all the knives had collars (the metal bit that encloses the wood handle where the tang inserts into the handle) that have visual blemishes—like an appearance of cross-hatching, but so slight that my fingers cannot feel anything. ... show more

  • A Stunning Knife Set and a Perfect Win‑Win
Size: 7 Pieces Knife Set
I ordered the HOSHANHO 7‑Piece Knife Set because I really liked the knife selection and the quality of this particular set. I’ve used several HOSHANHO knifes and knife sets and have always been impressed, but this one is truly exceptional. My older set had larger, properly weighted knives that made me appreciate how much leverage and control a well‑balanced knife can provide. Cutting became easier — and often safer — simply because the knife did the work. This new set takes that same craftsmanship and refines it even further. The blades feel stronger and more polished, with a cleaner edge and better weight distribution. They have that effortless glide where you can feel the balance the moment you pick one up. Please note, I still love my previous HOSHANHO set. I didn’t think anything could beat it, but this new set genuinely feels like a step up in quality. Because of that, I’ve decided to pass my earlier set on to my older daughter — it will be a big upgrade from what she’s currently using. She’ll also be getting the magnetic knife holder that comes with this set. She just bought a house with plenty of counter space, and that beautiful acacia block will look lovely displayed in her kitchen. Truly a win‑win for both of us. HOSHANHO continues to impress me with their consistency, craftsmanship, and thoughtful design. Every knife I’ve owned from them has been sharp, reliable, and comfortable to use. This set is no exception — beautifully made, incredibly functional, and a pleasure to work with. I’m very pleased with it and highly recommend it. ... show more

  • Beautiful and functional knife set
Size: 7 Pieces Knife Set
I used the HOSHANHO 7-piece knife set for daily meal preparation, including chopping vegetables, preparing meat, slicing bread, and general kitchen tasks. The biggest advantage of a complete set is having dedicated knives available for different jobs instead of relying on one general-purpose knife for everything. The chef knife became the main tool for larger preparation tasks, while the smaller knives were useful for more precise work. Having multiple blade options made food preparation feel more efficient because I could choose the knife that matched the task rather than adapting every job to the same blade. The knives feel well balanced in the hand, and the rosewood handles provide a comfortable grip during longer preparation sessions. The magnetic block is also a practical part of the set because it keeps the knives organized while making it easy to quickly select the knife needed. Buyers should understand that high-carbon steel knives require more care than many basic stainless steel sets. They should be dried after use and maintained properly to preserve the blade condition. Also, a seven-piece set may be more than necessary for someone who mainly prepares simple meals and only uses one or two knives regularly. This set is best suited for home cooks who enjoy preparing a variety of meals and want a coordinated collection of sharper, more specialized knives rather than a basic starter knife set. ... show more

  • Gorgeous Knife Set. High Quality, Sharp, Make Me Feel Like Cooking
Size: 7 Pieces Knife Set
I don't know enough about knives to really make an educated review about this, but honestly after owning this set I feel like I never need to know anything about knives again. These things showed up and immediately made me feel like I should be hosting a cooking show even though I still burn toast sometimes. The weight is amazing. I picked up the chef knife and thought, "wow, this is what confidence feels like." The variety is incredible, too. I didn't even know there were this many types of knives, and now I have all of them sitting on my counter looking like they belong in a fancy restaurant instead of my kitchen where we once tried to cut a watermelon with a butter knife. They really seem well put together and gorgeous. The price is kind of shocking because other knife sets are very expensive and this one feels like it should cost way more. The rack that holds them is beautiful. I love it. It makes the whole set look like art. I know Im going to get compliments on them and I will pretend I knew what I was doing when I ordered them. It’s quite a variety of knives and they are great. I love the knife sharpener too. It’s integrated into the magnetic holder block. Everything you want in one package. This would be an incredible housewarming gift. ... show more
