This hive has great quality material. The wood is thick and strong the wax coating is thick and even. The only thing I had trouble with was the dove tail joints were out of tolerance. I had to use a knife and sand paper to take off a bit of wood from the joints and to hammer them together with a rubber mallet. It was a bit more time consuming to do have to do that. I hope they fix that because I plan to order again in the future. The quality was exceptional and the price was good. The rest of the assembly went smoothly and the hive came with a mouse guard that I didn’t notice when I ordered.

For the price this is a good deal. I have 6 of these hives now. I’ve put together another 20 from mann lake this year. These dovetails are better than mann lakes straight joints. I had to chisel half of MLs. Ive only had a small split on one joint on the hoovers and one bottom board needed fixing. Trust me at this price that isn’t an issue. For my scale (50 hives) this is more economical than dipping my own hives. Its a little annoying drilling your own pilot holes but not too bad.i have a dremel mounted drill press that works fine. For frames I use a staple gun so I cant attest to those nails. I only use the big brass ones. Just keep in mind this same setup from ML would cost maybe 220 then you'd still have to assemble and paint. Positives *price *wax dipped *relatively good quality Negatives *some pieces didnt accept wax fully *light craftsmanship issues Update feb 2021: While they seem to be holding up alright I have noticed some issues. The wax isn't deep enough. I’ll have to dip them in a hotter wax eventually. Rust has appeared on some lids. It hasn't even been a year. Finally the main reason for a downgrade is that the company purveys that it goes through all this care to make these and its sourced from here and there. . . . You can order these exact hives on Alibaba from the manufacturer. The only difference is they are not branded. Still decent hives for sure. I just bought a bunch from the manufacturer in china. Nothing against hoover. Amazon is fueled by reselling Chinese made goods. Still can be cheaper than Mann Lakes. Plus Mann Lake router has been off.

These wax coated hives come unassembled but are fairly easy and intuitive to put together. The most labor intensive part was assembling the frames. Grab a chair and a table, a few minor tools (a power screwdriver will speed the process) some music on your Echo Dot and enjoy this great hobby.

This hive is beautiful! Very sturdy and easy to put together. There is a lot of wax on this so it take a little scraping of the dovetail joints to fit the pieces together. The directions Are ok but there are plenty of videos on line on how to put them together. If you have a nail gun, the job would be much faster, but I would suggest pre-drilling your holes in the frames bc the wood will split . The hive boxes are so darn tight that I didn’t put nails in them. Maybe I should anyway? I also received a few pieces of metal and I have no idea what they are for... They are just beautiful! Stunning even- I am so glad I went with the Hoover Hive! I believe they are made in USA- so that’s a big plus for us!

Second Review: 🌟🌟🌟🌟 Resolution!! (in my favor but I actually prefer both sides are happy) Okay, so after going back and forth for a month with Galena Farms, who sold the box to me, and after I suggested a partial refund to me for the parts that were unrecoverable, or for them to send me the new parts to replace the parts that were unrecoverable, they finally decided to refund my order. This was not absolutely necessary, but considering everything, I think it was a classy move on their part, so I changed my rating to 4 stars for that. If you buy these hive boxes, just be prepared to use your own hardware, drill your own holes, a knife or rasp to shave the wax off the joints and open them a bit, and have a rubber mallet handy to assemble the deeps and super. First Review: 🌟Not easy to assemble. Breaking parts. Nails too big. Boards splitting. 1. Conceptually this is a great idea, however there was no consideration taken in the construction of parts towards the dynamic nature of wood. I have contacted the seller and so far only heard that they were sorry, but I'm looking for a partial refund or a replacement. (Nothing from seller and it's been a week. I got this mid April.) I am completely capable of assembling all kinds of things, but the parts of the hive that are supposed to fit together simply don't. The dove tail joints are nice, but they are too tight even without the coating of wax covering every surface, and it is nearly impossible to assemble without causing immediate damage to the joints. In fact, I'm still figuring out how I will melt the wax out of the joints to get them together. (I've had to carve out the wax since this review) So if you don't have a rubber mallet and extra wood to use with your mallet, a blow-torch to melt the wax, and a lot of patience, you won't get it together without smashing your joints to smithereens. 2. As for the frames, the connection points for assembly are again like 1/16th too tight and wont fit. I have tried to connect the side of the frames to the top of the frames, and the top peg is so wide that when you do manage to fit it into the side frame opening, it splits the wood all the way down destroying the frame part before it is 1/8th into the slot. This is frustrating. 3. The assembly instructions are pathetic, microscopic, and incomplete. 4. The itemized list of what comes in the package and its use is also incomplete. 5. Hardware is missing. The bag of nails supplied with the kit is literally just that; one very flimsy torn plastic bag filled with multiple sizes of nails that are mixed together and also floating around in the box. 6. Finally, I like the bee burned into the box, but not the giant word HOOVER. It is tacky. I sent a message to the seller and am waiting for a response, so I may update my review later afterwards, but for now, I leave 2 stars, and that because the rest of the products seem to be pretty good. The wood is nice and actually an inch thick, not the standard 3/4" which helps with insulation, and the top and bottoms are nicely constructed. Its really just the other stuff I mentioned, but those things are critical to a person assembling the kit without destroying the parts due to poor measurements or lack of rechecking quality control periodically for the correct dimensions. Buy at your own risk. If you have a wood shop and can make adjustments, this kit is for you. If you really just need something to assemble easily as it should, then this kit is most definitely NOT for you.
