  • I have now bought two of these.
Clearly, if I bought two of these hives, I like them. They look great, and are not too difficult to assemble. The one I bought most recently, however, split apart as I was assembling it. Not a problem for the bees, and the box is relatively sturdy. despite the split. The assembly instructions are minimal at best and I would appreciate better assembly directions from the company. There are also parts of the hive that are sent with no label and I needed to look up on the Internet to find out what they were as a new beehive owner. Also as I was assembling the frames, the nails provided tended to split the wood around the frames. Fortunately, I have a nail gun that works with tiny brads and I was able to assemble the frames very quickly and without splitting the wood with the nail gun. I think tiny screws with pre-drilled holes for the frames would be very helpful and probably make the frames more sturdy, because once the bees have added their wax etc. to the frames, the frames have occasionally come apart when you take them out of the hive. putting the boxes together can be a chore and since I don’t own a rubber mallet, which would probably be the best tool for the box assembly, I used a regular hammer and a piece of cloth to try to avoid damaging the box pieces as I put them together. ... show more

  • Make sure to scrape the wax out of the dovetails
This is a complete set, which is good, and I love that it’s dipped in beeswax. However, since the parts are all dipped individually you you can’t properly assemble the boxes without scraping the wax from the dovetails. I learnt this the hard way by not doing this for my first two boxes and cracking them quite a bit (not to mention my poor arm and wrist - it took a lot of hard whacks with a rubber mallet to get them together.) The third went together like a charm once I cleaned the excess wax off. The instructions should really mention this. ... show more

  • My go to Hive box
I like these hive boxes. Easy to assemble. They last in the weather. Highly recommend gluing the hive frames together

  • I will buy another
For the price I was skeptical. I was surprised at the total package and workmanship. Now this is probably not the best quality out there but for the price I find it outstanding. The waxing is so thick and complete coverage that I had to use a blade to remove from the dove tail joints in order to assemble. The fit is very tight so if you don't have patience then let someone else do it for you or you will split the dove tail joints. They even supply nails for the frames and black weather proof screws for the boxes. I got a little careless and applied to much torque to one screw and caused a slight split. My fault and fixed with glue and another screw from the bottom. Once assembled there is nothing else you need except the bees and the accessories (smokers, bee suit etc). I like it but I am sure there is some dolt who will find fault. ... show more

  • Solid construction
Easy to assemble, and the bees must like it.

  • Well built
It’s a bit time consuming to assemble but well worth it! There are how to YouTube videos to see how best to put the hive together. The one addition helpful hint I would recommend is to drill pilot holes when building the frames. I didn’t crack/split any of the 140 frame nails I tapped in.

  • Some issues not many
The media could not be loaded. Pros: 1) love the dipped wax feature excellent to attracting hive when they swarm 2) smells great 3) fairly easy to asymble but... 4) all equipments was in the box Cons: 1) base board I don't like because I want to use a screen and diatomaceous earth to catch hive bettles and wax mouth can't do this with this one unless I mod it. 2) I had to carve out the connections to the corner connection of the hive boxes. Then they fit carve some wood wood and wax out they are fine. 3) will be adding a bottom screen with the diatemoucous earth Something you can do is offer different based board for whatever hive that person wants. If u could send me one bases board with a screen and area to put the diatemcous earth that'd be amaz9ng Around it is a great starter hive so keep up good work ... show more

  • Sturdy, well made, precise joints. Beautiful stain
Very nice beehives. The dipped wax made putting the very precise dovetail joints difficult but it made for a really nice seal. I used a heated air gun to soften/melt the wax when assembling and it made it go really smoothly. I recommend using some sort of heat source when putting the joints together. I have not had them for a full season so cannot speak to their durability or how the bees survive over winter. They look like they will weather well though. ... show more
