Description

Like a breeze flowing across a lake, Honeywell Evaporative Coolers provide a natural, cool breeze with the power of water evaporation. Honeywell Evaporative Coolers combine 3 appliances: Evaporative air cooler, fan and humidifier - into one compact energy-saving system. A fan alone creates a breeze by recirculating warm air, but when you add water and/ice to the tank, Honeywell Evaporative Coolers reduce the temperature of incoming warm air, transforming it into a cool moist breeze. Honeywell Portable Air Coolers are built to last and carefully crafted with the science of aerodynamics to minimize energy consumption while maximizing the airflow. An evaporative air cooler offers an energy efficient cooling option when the air is hot with low humidity, such as desert areas like the southwestern United States (recommended humidity level is 60% or less for maximum efficiency). For those living in more humid cities, please consider Honeywell Portable Air Conditioners.

  • One way to get 13 degrees cooler
Color: Silver
This was a great purchase, but it does pull a lot of electricity! My smoke detector went off a LOT the first year (2016), when my central air went out last year. But I have asthmatics in the house in a climate which is mapped bright red for high humidity, so I had to do SOMETHING! Honeywell is a very reputable company, so I gave them a shot. I didn't want to do it, but to make my wife happy I allowed her to get one. It was a miscellaneous expense at the time, and our insurance company gave us a voucher so we were able to purchase one asap! The total price last year was no where NEAR $400, or we would NEVER HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GET ONE EVEN WITH A VOUCHER! This year (2017) our central air went out again (my wife believes they may have taken advantage of her, and did only enough to get a call back this year, because the needs of the Navy come first when you're military, and I couldn't be home when the AC guys came). We saved up funds this year because we wanted to purchase another one this year, and another next year because we did the math and it would cool the house better with 3 @ 1200sq ft (its more like living space of 1000sq ft. two flat with 3 bedrooms & 6 people). But the price as of today 7/6/2017, is well over $400! We are military and the most attractive thing which attracted my wife to this product was the trusted brand (despite the few negative reviews), and the PRICE! I trust my wife to make wise investments while not overwhelming me trying to live outside of our means, but yet getting everything we need to get by in life. I wanted to get another one for them this year, but I guess like everything else... it will just have to wait. I fight for this country so we have the rights we want, I just wish that trusted brands could just keep things affordable. But I respect the rights that I signed up and swore to protect for this country, so I can't get mad when trusted brands, or anyone for that matter decides to exercise their rights to price hikes. I just wish things stayed affordable! We are ALL one miscellaneous unforeseen expense away from having the right to suffer in silence, because someone raised the price to things we relied on, or tried to honestly obtain. At some stage of life... you just want to have all wins for the past positives you put out into the atmosphere you know? The machine works very well, put ice in the top, and keep it coming (you have to buy bags of ice, or do what we did and get ice trays & rotate between 2 or more ice trays at a time so when it melts you have more to keep the house as cool as possible, while making the air breathable). Its not too loud, but the sleep mode is still a nice option. The swing mode isn't exactly an oscillate mode fans have, due to the short 14" window, but my wife and children are always thinking of ways to make what we have, work to fit our needs. They put old fans around the unit, and it helps to carry the cooled air further, most breathable up to 5ft away from the swamp cooler. We wish the window was wider so the swing mode could swing with more width from the base of the unit, like 180 or 130 degrees. Its not an air conditioner, but its better than a regular fan blowing hot air that you can't even feel, because its so hot! It wont matter how low or tall the fan you put in front of the swamp cooler is. The stick broke to our fan, but the top still works, so it can sit on the floor in front of the swamp cooler, and circulate the air, and one fan can sit high, if you have one that does oscillate pretty good. To help the swamp cooler air circulate, because the swing mode works well due to the force of air pressure coming from the swamp cooler. From a distance of 3ft you can feel the air blowing from it on a 90+ degree day. The window on the swamp cooler has blades that you can manually adjust so you can direct the air where you like, and it comes with a remote. But having 4 kids...THAT remote can be ANYWHERE, who knows? Thankfully, you do not depend on the remote to do anything that you can't do yourself! The swamp cooler is so easy to fill, they can all pitch in and feel like they're helping to do something productive to help improve our situation. Thank God they're a good family and they don't complain, I would feel so bad if they complained. For our 1200sq ft home, the one cooler does well to make the air breathable. Its still HOT, but its 98 degrees OUTSIDE, and inside its 85 degrees. Don't expect miracles LOL. Its easy to use, a baby can push the buttons, fill it and read the flotation device inside the swamp cooler to make them feel important, and its fun for them to put the ice in the top, and the wheels mean that you can roll it from one of their rooms to the next even if you're only 4, or pregnant and on bed rest while your mate is deployed. They all camped out in my room and the swamp cooler kept that room cool while they sleep, and it was easier for my wife to keep an eye on them and help them if they had trouble breathing through the night. I would recommend this product, maybe ask your insurance company if they have vouchers, if you need help to get just one. Because even just ONE made a positive difference to my family. If all you can afford is one swamp cooler (get this Honeywell 42pt portable cooler) and some dollar store ice trays, GET IT and roll it from room to room it's easy, doesn't raise your electric bill as high as central air (when the AC worked). The swamp cooler seems to work better this year than the first year (people rarely make things that get better with time, they mostly get you on the comeback, more concerned about their finances rather than their brand), and we're so happy we have one! However, I would recommend at least 3 for a 1200sq ft home on a 90+ degree day, and maybe going to a store and sharing popcorn and a cold refillable drink until the weather cools off a bit. My wife said the people in the stores can be so nice, they'll tell you when things are about to go on sell for $1-$3 on a markdown price. God bless America, and help us with improvements. LOL I hope this review was helpful. The swamp cooler does NOT leak, but the fans around it does not look very professional, so I wont share the pictures, everyone has their own unique way of doing things, and this is our story, I would encourage everyone to be creative and get the whole family in on it... a good fun and productive family summer project huh? Then you can remind them how good it is to just be a kid. ... show more

  • Not New - previously owned and refurbished
This cooler was sold as new but when I unpacked the cooler I noticed right away that this is not a brand new item. I inspected further and opened the back to look inside. The inside smelled moldy, it had a rusted screw and pieces of black wire cuttings on the bottom. Pink mold spots all around the water tank and black oily streaks and finger prints. All stickers on the unit looked like they were reapplied and the electric cord was sticky and dirty from where previous stickers were placed. The wheels on the bottom are worn and dirty and the controll panel on the top has air bubbles and discoloration in the plastic. I am all for recycling or fixing things that are broken because it helps reduce waste and makes manufacturing of new items unnecessary. I like to be informed and be given acurate information about an item that I am purchasing. It is bad business practice to charge full price for a used item. Update: After 1month of using the evaporative cooler the unit is leaking water from underneath. I will take the unit apart and use what ever I can and throw the rest into the garbage. ... show more

  • Works well to supplement your AC or if it is broken, but best in a dry environment.
Color: Silver
I bought one of these back in 2017 and I recently bought another one since my older one has started spitting water from mineral build-up over the years plus it is a little beat up from frequent moving around and heavy-duty use. Don't expect this unit to last forever, but we got a great 6 years of very HEAVY use out of it with very few complaints. Buy some good liquid algaecide to keep the tank from growing pond scum. Also, keep 2 or 3 cleaned out milk 1-gallon containers of water chilling in the fridge at all times if you want it to work efficiently. You may even want to buy a small countertop ice maker, so you don't have to buy ice but if you have a silicone baker's pan for mini quick bread loaves, that is the perfect size bar of ice for this machine. Just freeze them up and put them in bags. You want that ice to be harder than the kind you get from a countertop machine these days. We stick with the ice mini-loaves we make in our freezer. 6 to 8 bars really amp up the cooling if you begin with very cold water from the fridge. It takes 3 cold gallons to fill the thing up first time and remember to add the algaecide after the first gallon so the next 2 gallons you pour in the side opening will mix it around well. Mind you, a window unit AC is always the best option but in my new Condo, we aren't allowed to install them, so I am leaning back on this Honeywell, which has served me so well in the past. Adding ice to the ice compartment in addition to using ice-cold water really helps. We do have central AC, but the building isn't good at maintaining it, so we use this unit a lot. It keeps us comfortable when we need it, but we'd need a second one if the Central AC is still broken come summer. UPDATE Jan 26th'20223: Our buildings AC has been borked since Thanksgiving and this unit has saved my sanity! I am so glad we bought the new one. I was able to clean up the old one tolerably well, so it doesn't spit water, using one of the CLR formulas, but the new one was already in use. We'll save the old one for a friend in need this summer. If you aren't allowed window units, this might be right for you. Read on. If you want this Unit to cool the bedroom before sleeping, make sure to aim the back of the machine OUT the door because you cannot create cold without creating some heat, even with an Evaporative Cooler like this one. This machine has kept us tolerably cool even with 3 large southern facing windows. Thermal curtains can only do so much. On days of extreme humidity, the machine will not work as well as it does when the humidity is lower than 50% but by using cold water and ice, it takes the edge off enough that you aren't snapping at your spouse! Be prepared to make your own ice as I described because storebought ice is too expensive to make this Unit a lower cost option. Also, store-bought ice is usually crushed or has hollow centers which makes it melt super-fast. The method I describe above saves you about $8 to 14 a day in ice purchases. This thing has wheels and can be easily moved from room to room, which is very helpful. Make sure you keep the screens clean. I use a small brass brush such as you would use to clean suede shoes. Just don't brush too hard. Be sure to add the recommended amount of liquid algaecide each time you fill or refill the tank with cold water because otherwise algae will FORM in the tank. That's a very yuck thing to have to clean. Use the Algaecide every time you fill it up and when you aren't using it, drain the water out in the bathtub or shower and let it dry out to prevent algae build up. I needed to give the tank a good clean every other month when I was using it every day and night but once I learned to add the algaecide with every tank-up and every time I added a gallon of water, I only had to clean it twice a season. Remember, it WILL raise the humidity in the room where you use it. If you are already in a humid environment, this may not be the best choice for you. We are in Los Angeles and so that is not much of a problem. Still, don't use it in a room with fine art on the walls or textile wall hangings made of wool. We did that once and damp wool STINKS. We just moved the wall hanging to another room and stored the art in a humidity-controlled storage unit. It could ruin posters, paper, fine books etc., with constant use. They don't call these things "swamp coolers" for nuthin' LOL. I don't recommend adding any essential oils or fragrance to the water because this is a MACHINE, and you will never get that stuff out of the working parts. Also, you don't want anything other than the water and/or approved algaecides or hard water build-up preventatives in your tank. Keep it simple. If you want scent, get one of those wax warmers that you can plug in. I've done the candle routine and it stains your ceiling with soot as bad as a fireplace. Wax melts make better sense. Just don't put any fragrance in the tank! It is tempting but ultimately very unwise. As I mentioned before, try to aim the exhaust out a door to another room so you don't waste electricity by warming AND cooling the room. FYI: I checked my past orders, and we used this product to combat bacteria and algae: BestAir 3BT Original Humidifier Bacteriostatic Water Treatment. You can also find a good hard water treatment to add that prevents lime scale build-up. A six-pack of that Bestair stuff should last you the life of the evaporative cooler or at least a year if you use it as much as we did. Remember, if you can get a unit that works like a real AC and have a place to vent the heat out a window, DO IT. if not, this is your next best option. ... show more
