They are stainless and probably need to be painted to keep from becoming too hot in the summer sun. Not sure how the smaller ventilation holes work, since no instructions came with it. My boxes were not set up that both sides were useful.

This seems like it would be a good mouse guard, however it shouldn't be listed for a 10 frame. It doesn't fit across without either sliding apart or leaving a gap. I had to return it unfortunately.

I have tried a few of these and they all share the same design. They are not made to attach/detach easily and you cannot open the fully for summer months when I want my bees to have full access to the hive entrance. Someone needs to design this with a hinge middle so it folders up and down, could have a latch to keep down for winter, then the slider to adjust opening.
