I tested these Honey Lake medium beeswax-coated foundation sheets by installing four into a medium super on one of my active hives. The fit in Langstroth frames was good, and the yellow color made it easy to see new comb progress during inspections. The bees accepted most sheets within a few days and began drawing comb along the honeycomb pattern, though one frame was noticeably slower to start. The coating helped with initial recognition, but it felt a bit thinner than some other waxed plastic foundations I’ve used, and there was a mild chemical scent on first opening that dissipated after a day in the hive. Plastic durability was fine for normal handling, and the resulting comb was straight with consistent cells. No rejection or major issues after two weeks. These are a decent, reusable option for medium frames if you want something more durable than pure wax sheets. Just be prepared for slightly slower or uneven acceptance on a minority of frames in some colonies.

I typically let the bees do their own comb, but I had a late swarm capture and wanted to give them a head start on building their honey stores. These sheets fit my frames perfectly and the bees accepted them right away. They are easy to install. The sheets are well made and snap into the grooves of my frames easily. The foundation comb has just enough wax to get the bees started. I didn’t notice any bare patches and the wax was evenly coated. The sheets seem to me like the material will be durable. The food-grade certification was important to me although I will probably leave these with the bees for winter given it’s a small late swarm. However, in future years when I do go to collect honey, I’m glad it is certified. I didn’t notice any odor with the sheets. I like that you get a ten pack. I only use 8 frame supers, but this gives me extras for nucs. I thought they were a good value, and I’m considering getting them again to have on hand for late swarm and weak hive situations.
