  • Easy to Install, Feels Sturdy, Looks Great
These were quick and easy to install, and they actually increase the general appearance of the car. They also feel super sturdy, and I'm sure they'll be able to manage the weight of a cargo box or a few bikes. Go watch the Honda YouTube instructions and you should be set to get these on in 30 minutes or so. I just have two pieces of advice if you're on the fence: First, a lot of reviews mention how difficult these racks are to attach to an Element, but I think some folks missed a crucial step that makes the process barely an inconvenience. When placing the rubber seals around the feet of the racks, there are these tiny rubber nubs that have to squeeze through some small metal holes. Just give the little rubber bits a squirt of WD40 and they should slip through without a problem. Second, like most people, I also don't have a torque wrench to gauge 7lbs of torque. I just used an allen key and tried my best to make it feel tight without over-tightening. So yeah, these are easy and quick to install, and the fit is perfect. Good luck! ... show more

  • To those of you watching the installation video, take ...
To those of you watching the installation video, take note: the video was edited at the spot where the tech was attempting to insert the rear rack bosses from the rubber gasket, into the metal plate. The reason being, you need a special tool to do this. You can use a lubricant, but insertion by hand (as the video would lead you to believe) is not going to happen. I don't care what anyone tells you. Do your research. Mine are up, but will likely have to be removed and taken to the dealership to have properly attached. (Bye-bye saved money). Follow up: I took my Element in to the Honda Dealership. They told me to send the rack back. They wouldn't modify the rear rack- -which is precisely what would be needed for a proper fit. The rubber housing is warped, and even if the bosses (which weren't properly extruded) did fit, they would never seat into the housings, as they are improperly cut. This begs to question the authenticity of these racks. Even my technician said, 'are you 100% sure these are OEM?' ... show more

  • Short But Sweet
This is going to be just the basics, but questions are welcome if you need details. After seeing the various cut, drill, grind, etc solutions for adding a roof rack I was very happy to find out that this rack, the Honda Element OEM rack is incredibly simply to install and requires only the most basic household tools. You literally just pop out four plastic panel pieces that are found on the top of the Honda Element EX. I used a plastic "spudger" to do this, but a carefully applied putty knife or plastic spatula will do just as well (don't want to scratch your vehicle). Underneath are all the necessary screw holes and mounting points for this rack. A long stemmed screwdriver makes this go faster. The rack itself has snug fitting rubber gaskets that have to be attached to the footings (keeps out moisture, eliminates vibrations and protects against damage). They are VERY snug so a quick squirt of WD-40 or something similar will help getting them on (pretty near impossible without it, in fact). Going from NO experience to completely mounted, including reading the simple instructions and finding the tools and putting my cargo box on the rails took about an hour. Speaking of instructions, they will probably not be in the box since this is an OEM product but they can be downloaded: [...] ... show more

  • Genuine Roof Rack is genuine pain to assemble
The gasket type liner that goes inbetween uses only a few "mushroom" type stems to lock the pad into the mount; it comes unmounted so you have to find a way to force the stems into position without gouging or ripping anything. There is very little leeway or room to maneuver as you attempt this so its a fairly terrible assembly to perform. Otherwise I got 3 of 4 good fits with one being poor to mediocre. I would look into Yakima instead, I've seen other Elements and the Yakima fitment looks much better. ... show more

  • I am most impressed with how easy these were to install
I am most impressed with how easy these were to install. I watched a video on YouTube and used the included instructions (which weren't great) and with those two things, it took me about a half hour to do alone. I got the cross rails to use with a bag that you strap on for a camping trip. They are secure and tight, and even though the bag was heavy I didn't worry about the cross bars at all. ... show more

  • 75lbs!?
Man, I wish it had said somewhere in the description that it had a 75lb load capacity. That definitely won't hold my 2 kayak. Also, would have been nice if it came with instructions.

  • Perfect fit, looks great, and worth every penny.
This installed perfectly on my 2005 Element. A genuine Honda product as advertised. A bit pricey, (but less so on Amazon than at my dealer). It's worth it as it looks great and installed in a snap. Some after market racks just look cheap or like a cob-job, And the higher-end ones are more expensive than this and look like add-ons. Go with these racks. ... show more
