We got the gray. It is a bit to figure out since the directions are definitely lacking, but it boils down to installing two brackets into the window frame or on the front of it. Find the metal inside the window frame (tap a small nail up into the frame and see if the nail runs into metal and will not go further - drill your hole there). This will save you from having to install anchors. Drill a small pilot hole into the metal part of the window frame - the drill bit should go right through quickly. Screw in some drywall screws. It should hold up rock solid. When we first tested it, the length was an eight of an inch too long. I thought this was becoming a much bigger project, :) but I was able to pry the plastic off of the back of one of the brackets and then the length was perfect. As far as I can tell, the smooth side is supposed to face the window. Very dark, seemed to cool off the room instantly. We live in South Florida so this is going to be great. Enjoy. ... show more

I needed shades for my living room as I installed a big screen tv on the opposite wall from my windows and there was glare when I watched tv. Solution was these blinds. Easy to install and I have no idea what people are complaining about, but I had 2 windows done in 30 minutes. Just measure, mark the holes, drill and tap in the anchors and install the shades. Baby is sleeping in now and not waking with the sunrise! I recommend getting at least 4 inches wider than the window and putting the blinds on the outside of the window. We then use magnets to seal it to the wall so no light gets through the sides. Window frames inside the wall are metal so magnets stick right to the wall. I also recommend hanging it a bit higher than the window to limit light from the top. ... show more

So for starters, yes you want these. We have a handful of south and west dacing windows, so they just BAKE in the sun after like 3pm and our house really gets too hot and the AC bill is horrible. So I purchased these to see if that would combat it and we run out AC 1/2 as often!! For the darkness factor?? 10/10. We have a 16 month old who the millisecond there’s sunshine in the morning he’s ready to wake up and go, but like, it’s 5am, stop it. So we installed these on the rest of our windows as well and even at noon, you wouldn’t know if it’s 10pm or the middle of the day. If you think they’re too expensive, you’re wrong.
