Description

The K6 Beer Equipment kit includes all the conveniences you get with the K3 kit, like an automatic pump-style siphon, an adhesive thermometer for the primary fermenter, and a full 27-page beginner's guide. But the K6 has a 7.8 gallon bucket and a 6 gallon glass carboy (contrast two, 6.5 gallon buckets in the K3). The 6 gallon glass carboy is good for secondary fermentations, but is big enough to house primary fermentation of a standard 5 gallon batch. The 7.8 gallon bucket is perfect for bottling, and is also a great choice for primary fermentation. Moreover, with these larger-capacity containers, it's possible to brew up to 6 gallons in a single batch. The K6 Beer Equipment Kit includes, 7.8 Gallon Bucket with Drilled & Grommeted Lid, 6 Gallon Glass Carboy with Rubber Stopper, 3-Piece Airlock (for Fermenting Bucket), Adhesive Thermometer (for Fermenting Bucket), Automatic Pump-style Siphon with 5' of flexible tubing, Dual Function Bottle Filler (⅜″ OD), Bottling Spigot with Bottle-fit Spout, Glass, Triple Scale Hydrometer, Twin-lever Capper, Beer Bottle Brush, 8 oz of B-BRITE Cleanser, HandCraft Brewing Guide, Beer Equipment Kit Instructions.

  • Excellent kit
Just finished bottling the first batch of brew we made with this kit and as an absolute beginner I'd like to share some experience that may be helpful. First of all, if you have a local Brew Shop I strongly recommend that you visit them before you get started. You'll need an ingredient kit anyway so give a local shop some business and you'll get a lot of help in return. I also recommend starting with an ingredients kit - it has everything you need and good directions, as many other people have said, do not use the method that comes with this kit because every recipe is different so go with the directions in your Brew Kit and if you're putting together ingredients yourself ask the Brew Shop what the best method is for your particular recipe. The Kit we chose was Brewer's Best - Red Ale. The shop manager talked us step by step through the process and his instructions were exactly the same as the ones that came with the kit. The whole thing is very easy, the worst part is cleaning and sanitizing, wrapping your head around all of the steps and learning to read a hydrometer but if you just go step by step and have all of your prep work done it is not a difficult process. Saw a guy on YouTube who purchased a wallpaper trough to sanitize in - great idea. Cheap and perfect size. You will need a large pot that is around 5 gallons or larger. I was told aluminum was fine to use which was great because that's what I have already but I may invest in a stainless steel pot at some point. My racking cane arrived broken so instead of making a big deal about it I ordered an auto syphon for 8 bucks that's much better anyway. All the rest of the items in the kit arrived intact. I also purchased a carboy lifter (handle) as the thing was pretty heavy with 5 gallons of beer in it and to drop it would be a disaster. We put ours on a small wheelie cart to move it from room to room - much easier. Buy an 8 oz bottle of Star San as a sanitizer. This is a no rinse sanitizer which makes things much easier and yes, you can ignore the foam/bubbles and just fill the bottles right through it. I have been reassured of this over and over even though it's hard to believe. The B-Bright that came with my kit is a cleaner, not a sanitizer so they should make that clear. Again, my home brew store guy pointed this out. To get back to the kit itself I am convinced that this is the one you want rather than the two plastic bucket version. This way you can see the beer fermenting in the Carboy and it's much more exciting that way let alone easier to see if everything is going well. The Complete Joy of Home Brewing book is also a must. It reassured me every step of the way and it also helps you along as you get more advanced and shows you how to put together your own ingredients to make exactly the beer you want and it gives you great advice like not to splash your beer from the Fermenter (Carboy) into the bottling bucket but to let in flow into the bottom, gently. I found it really helpful and it's loaded with theory regarding hops, malt and grains too if you like. This kit was a perfect start and just need a few odds & ends to make it perfect for your needs. Cheers! UPDATE! The Beer has been bottled for 2 weeks and we tested a bottle. It came out amazingly well so now I am even happier with this kit. ... show more

  • Not as described, but otherwise really good
Bottom Line Up Front, the kit is a great way to get started brewing, but what you see, and what is described is NOT what you get. I ordered this kit two different times and both of them, though they arrived intact, had a cheap BLACK bottle capper. The picture and description specifically say the "Emily Double Lever Capper" which is RED. Why this is important, the Emily Double Lever Capper has the option to swap capping bells so you can bottle the larger European bottles. The Black one does not. Contacting the seller, they were nice but they refused to help since the order was fulfilled by Amazon and they didn't have direct control of the kits once they left the shop (though they are the ones providing the product to Amazon for shipment). Amazon will give you a refund if you so desire to return the product, but they will charge you shipping which was about $14. This is the reason I gave the product a 3 star rating. Monster Brew Home Brewing Supplies will only help/guarantee their products if you order directly from them (Def worth paying their shipping rates instead of getting screwed returning the faulty product to Amazon). Ok, moving on. In both Kits, everything else was as described. The instructions are clear and easy to read. The Glass Carboy is stout; it was wrapped in Bubble wrap and arrived inside the plastic bucket. Neither Kit had any broken pieces. I did notice defects (Bubbles, grains of sand) in the glass, which can be weak spots, but should not affect the quality of the brew. So just be careful to not drop the Carboy on those spots or hit it with a hammer. The bucket needs some assembly, but it's not hard if you read the instructions or even if you don't. All in all it's a nice little kit, and for the price, you'll have a tough time beating it. If you have Prime and you don't care about bottling the larger necked European bottles buy it here from Amazon, if you don't have Prime and are paying for shipping anyway buy it from the seller's website so you get the correct items. Some tips I learned from more seasoned brewers than I: It may not be clear to a first time home brewer, but you need to have a large pot and a big spoon to cook the brew as well as this kit (I use a 30 quart stock pot). Also, read the instructions, it isn't perfectly clear, but you will either use your carboy as your first fermenter (look up images of "carboy fermenter blowout" to see how to avoid) then the bucket for bottling; or you will use the bucket as the first fermenter, then the carboy as the secondary fermenter, then use the bucket again for bottling. This is nice because you can use the spout on the bucket to transfer the brew to the carboy for the second fermentation stage without having to worry about accidently siphoning the sludge from the bottom of the bucket. Also I recommend you use distilled water (It dissolves the ingredients faster) and cook your brew in the minimum amount of water to dissolve the "sugar source" while chilling the rest of the 5 gallons in your first fermenter so that when you pour the hot brew into the cold water, together into either the Bucket or the carboy it cools as rapidly as possible and wont risk cracking the glass. ... show more
