The LEDs that produce fireplace effect shine through the bottom of the unit and dance on the floor. My girlfriend thought that the unit was sparking, and the lights flashing on the floor are still visible even when the fireplace effect setting is on the lowest light. Bought the unit a second time, thinking it was a one-off product defect, but this distracting issue persists. Its not a bug its a feature apparently ... show more

I bought this and the "VonHaus Electric Fireplace Stove Heater Portable Free Standing with Log Wood Burning Flame Effect Light 1500W - Black " at the same time for my living room and office. This model is equivalent to the VonHaus "upgraded" version, which provides the same temperature adjustment/trigger that this one ships with for $95 at the time of this writing. For $30 less, I definitely recommend this one, as they're both the same prototype lightly modded, and this one has three color choices. I wanted these to help offset the extreme East Coast cold spell that popped up recently. Keep in mind, these little heaters cannot replace a regular heating system in very cold weather. This is just a boost. The cats love it, the air blows from the bottom, and the entire unit, including the flames, stays 100% cool and kid safe. I wouldn't recommend this with high-pile carpets, as the heat would be a bit too close, and would be like aiming a hot blowdryer right on your carpet. My living room is about 200 square feet in an open layout with the dining room (another ~150 ft), and such open layouts are a bit of a struggle to heat with small heaters. You'll do best with a closed room (these heat up my office very quickly). Still, on the coldest day (range 0-15F), after running a few hours (in conjunction with my very underwhelming baseboard gas heat), the VonHaus (which arrived first) kept the room stably warm for the entire day. However, I do get a little antsy running a 1500-watt heater nonstop, so I'm happy this one has a temperature trigger (first lefthand knob). I set it to just below the current room temp, which effectively will keep it off (except the flames) until the room temperature drops. The right knob allows you to adjust the brightness/intensity of the flames. I'd imagine the ability to crank up these bulbs will cause them to burn out faster, so I have it at the lowest setting. Based on other reviews, it appears the flame bulbs will need replacing at some point, depending on your usage. Not a big deal. They're clearly listed in the owner's manual as 25W G9 halogen bulbs (2 needed). You can get a 10-pack of these for $8-10, so that's a weird thing for some reviewers to get huffy about. A burned out bulb does not equal a broken heater. I do see that this is frequently purchased with wall timers and temp programmers, which is alarming, as the manual clearly states this can result in hazards by resetting the thermal cutout. Even without reading that, the thought of constantly clicking on/off a 1500-watt appliance through the outlet only sounds like a beg for electrical trouble. So don't do that, maybe? Also, the VonHaus upgraded version for some reason doesn't use the second knob area, as this one does. If you click through the product pictures, you'll see what I mean. You can see where the second knob *should* be, however, so I'm glad I bought the non-adjustable VonHaus, as that blank space would probably irk me. Great seasonal buy, and already worth the money. Most realistic flames, beautiful design, love hidden heater outlet. Great range of controls. Moved to the desert after 60 years in the Pacific Northwest, where we always had a real wood stove. This is a decent replacement for this cozy feeling at an excellent price. I’d rather have fake logs than glass beads, and these are about as realistic as I have seen. So the heat works fine and it was easy to assemble although one of the legs remains a bit wobbly but it's okay, but there is an unpleasant odor that the unit emits every time I turn it on - a strong hot metal smell - ? I have to open a window to try to air out the room each time, which defeats the purpose of heating the room. No idea if it will dissipate over time, but I find that I'm avoiding using the unit because of the odor. ... show more

I assumed this space heater came with a remote and dinged the seller for failing to include it in the shipment. I have purchased 3 other models of small space heaters and they all have remotes. This was my error since there is no remote with this model. The seller reached out to me within 12 hours about my feedback based on the "missing remote". This unit is a beautiful looking cherry wood color that matches the furniture in my dining room perfectly. The media could not be loaded. I love this little wood stove heater! I did buy it purely for aesthetic enjoyment, so I am hoping the bulbs don’t burn out on me too quickly. We heat our 1248 square foot home with a wood burning stove. But I wanted to make my daughter’s room extra welcoming and cozy when she comes home to visit. I figured the price of this little unit is no more than going out to eat; therefore, it’s worth the price even simply used for ambience. I wrote to HomCom customer service, asking for advice on what bulbs to purchase. The manufacturer suggested the CBconcept 10XG9120V25W G9 JCD Halogen Light Bulb, 25-watt, 120-volt, 10 Bulbs. So, I am going to get some to have on hand. I hope the bulbs are the right fit. The price for 10 bulbs is good. Some review said that the legs were difficult to attach. I don’t know if the legs or screws were changed since; I was expecting a struggle, but I found it no effort at all to screw on the legs. I appreciate the reviews posting photos and videos; they were really helpful in making my decision to purchase this stove. Great heater and good ambience however the heating element is near the bottom and not towards the top so the patch of carpet it sits on can get warm. It would be a 5/5 if it wasn't for this.
