I've gone through the trouble of having to return $650+ worth of HIVE equipment today, mostly because I live in the United States. Unless your router is right next to your thermostat, and you have little to no need for any support or additional products from their website, I suggest NEST instead or going SIMPLY SAFE for security in combination with another smart thermostat, with a company that is based in the United States. This is a UK-based company and it is clear to me they have not clearly addressed all the issues for US customers. EDIT: I have spent a lot of time with their support team, which I hated. I FINALLY got this to work (on my own basically). Here's what you do when your router won't reach or your house is setup in a way where you can't even get your wifi upstairs: Use the ACTIVE PLUGS. They DOUBLE as signal boosters; That's all they had to tell me, and It would have solved my problem. Instead, they wasted hours of my time. I decided to BUMP my review from a 1/5 stars to a 4/5 stars after getting it working; I now feel it is worth the money. If you are not willing to work out a few problems, DO NOT BUY...as it can be a headache in some cases it seems. If you are in the US, prepare for worse customer service (that's now the only complaint I really have). I rarely leave reviews. I usually only review when I have been either blown away, or critically disappointed. That being said...I take this upgrade to a 4 star review really seriously...as I've never done it before. The product itself managed to redeem itself after I spent more time with it, and used the active plugs as signal boosters (which they WILL NOT MAKE AVAILABLE TO YOU FOR SALE if you live in the United States - so stop looking for it, and buy the active plug instead). ... show more

    • Over engineered, not user friendly
Style: Heating & Cooling Pack
If I was writing a review on "does it work" the answer to that is "yes". But this is a total overall review based on my experience and the short of it, I threw this away and went with a different solution. So the Hive heating and cooling pack works, it installs easily, first you HAVE to install the included hub, this is a separate device that needs internet access, don't install the hub nothing works. Once installed the hub will most likely download an update, problem is it doesn't tell you this, in my case it took over an hour before the hub actually started working, I guess it had several updates it needed? If you look at the blinking lights then go on-line you can figure out what it's doing but it's not intuitive and the app, I'll go into that. Now, once the hub is online you connect the thermostat to your system, wiring it up is pretty easy and will only take a few minutes to complete. It will boot up and whats odd is the navigation. Sometimes you tap the lower portion of the screen when a red x or green check appears, other times you have to push the dial, the input method changes and there doesn't seem to be a reason for this. Once the thermostat is online and talking to the hub you'll find it comes present with multiple schedules for each day, you can't just say "clear" and build your own, you have to delete the times one by one, each time it has to talk to the cloud over your internet and update, it literally took me over 10 minutes to clear 2 days worth of schedules at which point I quit, I moved on. Now I have slow internet, but there is no reason there isn't a mass "clear all default" or something option. Once you start to build your own schedule it's cubmbersome, the only real saving grace is the "rapid heat and rapid cool" buttons on the top of the thermostat that override all the work you put into building your schedules. The thermostat itself displays some data, but it is a fairly large footprint on your wall with fairly little display in use, yeah it works but when you have looked at and used other solutions like Sensi or Nest you realize how efficient those systems utilize screen real-estate while making the user experience pleasant. Now the app, it works, sure. But it's based on you having an entire hive system setup, switches, lights, thermostat, etc. On the main dash it gives you a "hive" or honeycomb grid where you can put various devices in each. It works don't get me wrong, but when you have only one hive device it just once again is over engineered. Utilizing the app is just as clunky as the thermostat on the wall itself, you can figure out how to control the system, but it isn't easy. If you were to commit and go all-in to the hive eco-system then this would be a functional system you could learn to live with. If you have multiple smart home products, or have used smart home products before you'll start to compare the over engineered hive system to everything else you've experienced. Nest is easy, Sensi is fluid, smart things can be complicated but they made the app work well, ecobee not bad.... Hive though....... man I really wanted to like it, but I couldn't and wound up throwing it in the trash. If I had purchased it I would have returned it no doubt about it, but I was sent a unit to review. ... show more

    • Great product, very easy to set up and use

The media could not be loaded. We’ve been looking for a new smart thermostat for some time and decided to go with the Hive themrostat. We had the thermostat installed by Home advisor and it took around 30 minutes to install. Pairing to the app was very easy and gives us the ability to control our system from anywhere and link it to Alexa. This product is very easy to use and program. One thing that we love is the two buttons on top. You can set a mode they call ‘quick’ and let’s us set the heating temporarily for hour or two. We have started using this feature before bed every night. Overall we are very happy with our purchase and will be buying more Hive devices to add to the app! ... show more

    • It’s WORTH IT

UPDATE: It STILL WORKS WELL. Although, I had to change a wire for the heating settings because Customer service gave me wrong info. I'm kind of handy so I knew what was wrong. I can tell Alexa to turn it off or on and even use the app to control before I get home. LOVE IT Fiiiiiivvvveee Staaaaarrrrsssss! Listen, if you are second guessing this product ~>>> DONT!     • Perfect for what I needed

I moved in to my new house about 10 months ago and was looking to add a “smart thermostat “ since then but the prices on some of the well advertised brands kept me wondering if I should cough up the exorbitant amount of $$$ for it. Found the hive on blackfriday for less than $100 and looking at the specs, it had what I needed to satisfy my upgrade. The installation was fairly easy although I run into short thermostat wires which I fix with a trip to the home improvement store, I grabbed a foot of 18 gage thermostat wire and some wire connectors. The rest was a breeze. The initial setup was super easy and the app syncing with the hub was a piece of cake. It talks to my Alexa and saves me a trip to adjust or check the indoor temperature.
