You have to make sure that it is totally submerged in water, so make sure you have at least 5 inches of water, if horizontal. Using this for our open turtle tank and it hasn’t disappointed much at all. If it’s not submerged in water it can start to build up a burn like film, so be on point and make sure your water level is adequate. Sometimes the water can seem to go cold, so I am sure to check it here and there, but when I raise it up (steady 81 degrees) it stays good. Im running it on a 10 gallon tank, works great, and as you can imagine it heats the tank, heats it well and came with a strip thermometer to verify the heater is heating the water to the temperature you set it at.. the heater is always a few degrees off but im not complaining.

First one no matter what you set it on it would not stop and I believe if I had not kept an eye on it just nervous about a new heater in my tank of fish otherwise I believe it would have boiled.
