I've been using the Hisense API0825UW1D for a couple of weeks now in my living room, which is about 300 square feet, and it's quickly become one of my favorite home appliances. As someone living in a hot, humid climate, I needed a portable AC that could cool efficiently without being a power hog or sounding like a jet engine. This tower-style unit fits the bill perfectly—it's a smart inverter model with twin hoses for better efficiency, rated at 8,000 BTU (DOE) for spaces up to 350 square feet, and it doubles as a heater, dehumidifier, and fan. Plus, it has smart features for app control, which is a nice bonus. Design and Setup The design is sleek and modern, with a tall, slim tower profile that doesn't take up much floor space—it's about 40 inches high and easy to move around on its casters. The white finish blends in well with my decor, unlike some bulkier portables that look industrial. Setup was straightforward: the twin-hose system (one intake, one exhaust) vents through a window adapter, which sealed nicely without much hassle. It's not the lightest at around 60 pounds, but the handles make it manageable. Performance and Cooling This thing cools like a champ. This Hisense portable air conditioner is a truly unique upright tower-style inverter model — one of a kind in the market. Hisense, a long-established Chinese brand, has earned my trust from past products such as TVs and other portable air conditioners. The build quality of this unit is excellent. The plastic molding is thick and high-grade, the finish is smooth, and the unit feels solid and substantial. It is quite heavy, which actually reflects the quality of materials and insulation used. The system includes two flexible hose pipes that connect easily to the window kit. Installation works best with sliding windows — it won’t fit well on traditional hinged type window. This AC uses inverter compressor technology, which makes a big difference in performance and comfort. The compressor starts very softly and runs almost silently. I also own the Midea Duo and LG inverter models, and the Hisense has the lowest compressor noise among them. The sound insulation around the compressor seems especially well engineered. The fan speed control could be smoother; the lowest fan level isn’t quite as quiet as LG or Midea units. For light sleepers, this matters because inverter ACs don’t turn completely off — they reduce both compressor and fan speed once the target temperature is reached. Even so, the overall noise level is very low, and the temperature stability is excellent, maintaining a steady comfort level all night. Power draw peaks around 1,200 W, then stabilizes near 400 W after reaching the set temperature — impressively efficient for an 8,000 BTU unit. The temperature sensors are accurate and display current room temperature in the Hisense app, which helps ensure consistent cooling across the space. The dual-hose design means the condenser uses outside air, preventing negative pressure and avoiding hot air from leaking back into the room — a major plus. The auto-evaporation system eliminates the need for manual draining. It also includes a heating function that performs very well. The unit offers Wi-Fi connectivity and works seamlessly with Google Assistant, Alexa, and Siri, as well as Matter support, which is a welcome addition for smart-home users. There are a few considerations: At 8,000 BTU, it’s best suited for smaller to mid-sized rooms. The unit is heavy and tall, so if your window is low, it may partially block the view. Occasionally, at very low temperatures, you can hear the refrigerant flow noise — not a defect, but mildly noticeable. The lowest fan speed could be quieter. Despite minor issues, this is an impressive and thoughtfully designed inverter portable air conditioner. Hisense deserves credit for creating a space-saving upright tower model that combines power efficiency, quiet operation, and strong build quality. I’ve had great experiences with the brand before, and this unit reinforces that trust.
