To answer the most common questions: Is it warm? No. Even with lava rocks, the radiant warmth does not extend even to the edge of the table. Tested in 58 degrees F on a clear, windless evening in southern California. Tested again at 63 degrees, no wind, on its high setting it is nice to scoot up close to the table and lean over it as you eat, without burning off your eyebrows. However, what this really needs is a second burner ring outside the first so you can crank it up for when you aren't dining and are instead leaning back in your chair. As it is, leaning back in the chair (scooted all the way up) you can't feel anything at all. Will the finish wear off? Probably. It even states on the front of the instruction manual that it is powder coated steel that is very susceptible to moisture and humidity. It recommends you rub car wax on it every few months. It took about an hour to assemble with no help, and had no alignment issues. Everything was in good shape, except that the steel legs were dirty and oily on the inside, and still smelled like a machine shop. It's not an issue, though, for an outdoor installation. The fasteners are poor quality. You know you've tightened them nearly enough when the hex head strips, but they get the job done. The wrench they supplied is pitiful, but what do you expect? It made it through maybe 10 fasteners before it stripped itself. Use your own. No, you can't use a ratchet or drill for most of this, due to clearance issues. The glass it came with is pretty rough stuff, varying in size from several inches, to dust. Do not open that box indoors or you'll have a mess to clean up, because it was not all contained in the bag and glass pieces will fall out the bottom of the box! The flame is centered in the pit, with the holes facing inward. It is very centralized and needs a second burner ring for higher settings. Overall, it is an aesthetically pleasing table with a flame in the middle, but do not get it for warmth. You'll burn a pound or more of propane per hour, but won't feel much of the heat. My recommendation is to get a nice table and a tabletop radiant heater.

Update sept 18 : I contacted Amazon after failed attempt to have the manufacture defect covered by the AZ Heaters,... Amazon corresponded with me and I accepted a discount for the firepit. here is the deal: 1: I could return for full refund and no shipping costs.. not a bad deal BUT, I purchased a cover and extra glass which would be yet another loss oh.. include my cost for a propane tank. There's more cost involved than just the "fire pit ". 2: I could have a new one sent and I'd send the bad one back.. omg I'm old and the thought of assembly and disassembly was too much for me. 3: I could accept a partial refund. I accepted this due to the above reasons. I believe when the top gets so bad I'll attempt to apply fire/heat proof tiles on it. it may end up looking even better.. I upped my star score from 1 to 2 because of Amazon's best attempts to remedy this situation and they did to my satisfaction. unless I can't update the top .. but I'm handy, good thing too. I purchased this last Dec. I live in FL. Updated Sept 18 : don't waste your money if you want this to last a year or more. I've contacted this seller twice now and have never heard back. I'm quite upset over this product and the quality... it originally was great.. but lasted less than a year. I read all the reviews. I put this together easily and by myself. I took my leisurely time and it still only took about an hour. all the pieces were in the kit, and nothing arrived damaged or scratched. It is important , as when you put anything squared like this together, to NOT tighten all the screws until you have it put together, or you will end up with holes not lining up for the bolts and screws. after I put it together I did exactly as instructed and waxed the top, I haven't yet put on the cover, and it remains beautiful even with our wet and humid weather. In fact I can see that should it get discolored I could use a wax cleaner on it to probably fix it. I will start using the cover but it's been over a week and it's still fine, even through several rains. I did purchase extra glass and put it around the edge . it really makes a great addition to our patio bar area. I highly recommend this product. it is large and puts out a nice warm glow/heat that is just right for a chilly night. the price is great. I will add photos later. Update : sept 7th, 2018 now I'm very disappointed, I've done everything including the cover, yet the top "copper" part "like it's a layer" is bubbling up and coming loose off the top. it's looking hideous. after I'll I've done, and little I've been able to use it.. I am very disappointed in the lasting quality of this product. I would surmise since it's been less than a year I'll need to trash it very soon. don't waste your money.

This thing is just great. Saw it at a friend’s house, knew my parents would love it, bought one for them. I didn’t realize so much assembly was required, likely my fault for not reading more carefully. It made my mom’s day, and for that reason, I’m a little biased, but this fire pit is great! You can turn the flame up or down, it doesn’t extend much past the glass pit, so you can easily keep cold drinks on the surrounding platform if you wish. We’ve eaten dinner around it and it was perfect with the flame turned down. It’s simple to use, and lightweight enough that two people can comfortably move it. My parents are getting a lot of use from it, and apparently the neighbors all want one now. It did not come with a cover. I didn’t even think about it at the time, but my mom found & purchased the cover that’s made to fit it. I recommend buying the cover to protect your pit from the elements.

I'm happy with this table. It's not AMAZING and life-changing, but it's pretty good. The flames are more for show than for heat I'd say. People sitting around the table still end up cold and draped in blankets. It's a pretty good size for a patio table with or without the lid. You can set drinks and small plates on the edge with no problem. I did get a cover to protect it, but it still rusted. All of the silver metal is rusted after a summer outside, but the other metal is still in good shape. I had a difficult time putting it together by myself. The top is still not perfectly aligned despite my taking it apart and putting it back together a couple of times.
