Description

This is a heavy duty K-type Thermocouple for use in kiln and furnace applications. The probe is made from AWG 8 Gauge K-type thermocouple wire (chromel and alumel) and is rated for continuous use at very high temperatures up to 2372 °F Fahrenheit or 1300 °C Celsius. The k-type thermocouple is about 8.5 inch in total length, and the 6 insulation tubes are about 6.5 inch long. This type K Thermocouple Kiln Probe is made with 6 ceramic insulators, each about 1 inch long, and it allows you to adjust the probe length by removing insulator elements and shortening the wire to your exact requirement. This k-type thermocouple is frequently used in ceramic ovens, kilns and furnaces, in pottery ovens, metal working, manufacturing and whenever you need to measure and control very high temperatures. Ships quickly from St Paul, Minnesota, USA. If you have questions we can help. Specifications: K-type Thermocouple Measurement Range -58 to 2372 °F (-50 to 1300 °C) Wire Diameter: AWG 8, 0.13” or 3.2 mm Total length: 8.5 inch (21.5 cm) Insulated length: 6.5 inch (16.2 cm) Ceramic Insulator, oval shape: L~ 0.5” W~ 0.4” (L=12.3mm W=10mm), a ceramic connector block for wiring is included. If you need a hook up cable to connect this thermocouple to a thermometer or temperature controller, please look for the CR-04, Amazon item number B071RMW3BB. This K-type connector cable is 5 ft long and has fiber glass insulation If you need a ceramic protection tube for this thermocouple, please search for our model CR-03, Amazon item number B06XKK7ZPQ. • Durable high temperature thermocouple, stands up to cone 10 temperatures
I use this on my pottery kiln, cone 10 reduction fires. For the nonpotters out there, cone 10 is approximately 2400°F. I've been using one for two years now and it has stood up well, still in use. I just bought three more so I can monitor the temperature in other parts of the kiln. I don't use it for temperature control, so I couldn't rate that. I also don't have any way to measure the accuracy, so no rating there either. I did hook up the three new ones to my temperature meter while in the house, and they were less than one degree F apart, and matched the house thermostat, so there's that. But at meaningful kiln temperatures I just have no way to evaluate their accuracy. However, I rely on the pyrometric cones to tell me when the firing is done anyway. The Thermocouple readings let me see how quickly the temperature is rising, and how evenly the kiln is firing. For these purposes the thermocouples are great! ... show more

  • Ok for a general idea but not accurate
Not sure why but these probes are very inaccurate. I purchased 2 and the readings between them are very far apart. I have 2 from a different supplier and they seem to have much better tolerences.

  • Broke after 2 firings
worked fine for the first firing to cone 06, but when the pieces were glazed and fired to cone 6, the temperature reading tanked at 1500F and was acting wonky at 1000. I used an old rod probe thermocouple, and verified that the temperature didn't fall 500F, but climbed up from the 1500F by 180F / hour as expected. Currently unavailable, not sure if the company is gone or not. trying to get a replacement ... show more

  • accurate probe
I bought this to monitor the temperature in my double burner propane forge. It works great and is accurate. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that on my second use, one of the ceramic sleeves broke in two, and it was during a refractory bake, so it did not come in contact with anything during the heating or cooling process because nothing was in the forge. ... show more

  • Temp was spot on and saved a lot in probes for kiln
Worked great in our Olympic kiln.

  • Seems to be a quality product
So far it's been great(3 months or so). I've had it up to around 1900°f and it's still going strong. I like the open tip, it makes for really fast response. I tested it against another tc and thermometer, and it seems to be pretty accurate. It's exactly what I was looking for and I've been pleased with the performance. ... show more

It's a decent unit but for the price surprised no screws or fasteners were included
