The squares are really small but they do burn for a good minute. Went out camping and it rained on the way up all the wood I gathered was wet I found a few dry pieces sparked up one of these little bad boys under the dry wood and soon enough I had a fire going. Kept putting the wet wood on top of the fire to dry out and it all burned down eventually and kept repeating adding the wet wood. I didnt have these last time and used a whole bottle of 91% rubbing alcohol and it didnt even start but last time these guys for sure helped

I first started looking for a round "chimney" type starter but the label on it says not to use it if you have instant-light briquettes. So, I tried these instead. They are formed as a "brick" and you break the brick apart into individual squares (kind of like a Hershey's chocolate bar). Definitely an unexpected size and shape but if you break off and use enough of the pieces, and place them in and around a pile of instant-light briquettes, they light quickly and work fine. I use about half of a brick for each fire. HINT: Sometimes the pieces splinter apart when you try to break them off the brick, but just use the broken pieces anyway; doesn't really matter.

We added a real wood burning fireplace to the inside of our home. Initially I was skeptical the fireplace would get used because it would be too hard to start a fire. This HGD Fire starter makes starting a fire easy. When its easy you will actually use the fire place and enjoy it. This does not have any unusual smell or smoke, it is a good value for the money and allows us to start many fires with one package. The HGD lights easy, we just break off a piece, set it in the fireplace, light it and watch the fire begin. Add coffee, a good book, a dog or cat and your quality of life goes up.
