After learning about forever chemicals that come off plastic cutting boards from chopping I opted out of those (despite missing how easy they were to clean!). This board is sizable and sturdy, though its wise to place a towel under it to avoid slipping when chopping. I will say its very heavy and fairly difficult to wash after every use (be good about this otherwise bacteria will grow in the spores of the wood). For the price, I wish it was a little lighter, and kept its deep color. I frequently have to rub it down with mineral oil to preserve sheen and help its longevity. I have noticed some splinters coming up in the wood, but not sure if thats normal for wooden boards after a month or so of use.

You're seeing two different cutting boards with similar fundamental issues. Firstly, I was really looking forward to this. I'm an owner of various hexclad kitchen tools and appliances, so I had high expectations of the brand. Unfortunately, upon receiving the first cutting board there was a large dent as if it was dropped on the corner of the wood slab, and I'm no professional but I've done enough research to know that damaged wood is very bad for bacteria growth. After returning that one, I figured it was just bad luck or maybe it was dropped by the delivery service. But the second one arrived in even worse condition. My wife opened the package and got a splinter just by taking it out of the box. I looked at the cutting board and sure enough, not only a damaged corner but the grain was peeling and exposed, very sharp to the touch. So we've decided to return the cutting board and look into other brands. It's a shame because this is definitely a more affordable option into the premium cutting board space, but I wouldn't take a chance again.

The one thing that prevents me from really loving this cutting board is the lack of gutters around the outside. I chop a lot of tomatoes and those suckers are juice bombs. I don't love having to chase the juice to scrape it back with the back of my knife before it spills over. Now on the plus side, this board is pretty large so if you chop in the middle you've got plenty of real estate between you and the edges. The wood is a good quality, very thick, and easy to clean. It's not the easiest to tuck away somewhere - did I mention that it's large? Om the whole I've really enjoyed using this, and I just end up reaching for a smaller cutting board with gutters when I go nuts with the tomatoes.

I will first start out by saying wow. This thing is possibly the heaviest cutting board I have ever picked up. As wonderful as that is for a more permanent setting and how well it speaks of the quality of the board, it also makes it quite difficult to store and use if you aren't someone who does large batches of food or big meal preps. It actually doesn't even fit in my sink in any cohesive way! I have heard of HexClad pans and am familiar with the brand so I thought it would be fun to get a cutting board to see if the hype was just for the pans. The board has the HexClad insignia and comes in simple packaging. I didn't see any care instructions; I think that may be because the cutting board is geared more towards seasoned chefs rather than the everyday consumer. I can immediately tell that the board is made of quality wood, it is has no rough spots and truly is beautiful. However, I think that part of the reason the price is so high has to do with buying for the brand, not singularly the quality. That is not to take away from the quality of the cutting board, because it is truly very good, but it should be noted. I would really like to know more about the quality or sourcing of the wood on the packaging somewhere, maybe there are factors here I can't see! I personally really appreciate it being wood, as I try to stay clear of toxins in the kitchen. Overall, it is truly a beautiful piece of wood and feels like a luxury option in the realm of cutting boards.

I guess you get what you pay for but this wasn't exactly cheap. However I found that I measured before buying this product and yet the cutting board is about a quarter inch too small for the surface I was going to use it for within my kitchen (topper for my makeshift island). I will donate it and try again. Also I noticed that the color of the center of my board definitely lacks a uniform finish.
