These things are great! They take lr44 batteries and they are not noisy at all. They just vibrate and find a way to skate along the floor. Works best on hard floors but did not get much hair in them while they were on the carpet which was nice. My son doesn't take care of things the best (5) but they have held up for a bit and none of them have been broken. My 2-8 year old all use these and have fun watching them scoot around while they catch them! ... show more

Bought the 5pc set of Hexbugs RealBugs for my cats. They've had "standard" HexBugs to play with for some time, and liked them, but are finding the kinda realistic bug version much more interesting to play with. The bugs vary in realism, with the cicada and cockroach being very realistic, while the other 3 beetles/weevils are really too large to be authentic. But the cats love to play with all of them. I was also somewhat concerned that the plastic legs and antennae would be fragile, and the cats would pull them off quickly, and maybe eat them, but after several intense play sessions involving biting, pulling on and picking the bugs up by the legs/antennae and tossing them over the cats' heads, all appendages are still intact. 1 year update - after several months of daily play, my one cat who is really dedicated to pulling the legs off of things did finally manage to pull all the legs and antennae off of these. She normally doesn't eat bug legs, just pulls them off, and if she did swallow any plastic legs, they were in small enough pieces that they passed right on thru without incident. She's waiting anxiously for our order of the new-style bugs to arrive. ... show more

I had purchased these for my nephew, but accidentally sent them to my own house. Rather than sending him back, we decided to play with him. It was really fun watching our dog chase these around the house. We were very careful because I didn’t want him to eat them as they do have batteries and obviously not a dog toy. After that, we took them to my mom’s house and showed them to her cats. That was also really funny and fun to watch so basically I have not at all use these for the intended purposes however, I have definitely got my moneys worth out of them. The media could not be loaded. My cat wants constant entertainment and it has been very hard to find toys that keep his interest. These, however, are amazing—he watched them for 3 hours the first day we got them! He especially loves the locust (I think because it moves around the best and doesn’t get stuck as easily as the others). I’ve never had cat toys keep my cat’s interest for so long and while some of them flip over a lot and get stuck on things (and I’m sure the batteries will run out pretty soon with all the use they’re getting), I would still 100% recommend getting these for any cat. Even our big girl cat whose favorite activity is sleeping loves these. She will play with them for more time than any other toy (and we have bought every cat toy imaginable lol). ... show more

Each bug was packaged very securely. So much so, that I broke the wing off the one bug as I removed it from the plastic package. Each bug is solid and sturdy. My cats were originally confused, but are quickly catching on to playing with them (We are on day 3 of having them). The on/off switch on the underside of each bug is easy to access and move side to side. The bugs only move when on a solid surface (linoleum, countertop, hardwood floor) and only buzz/vibrate in place when placed on carpet. They also get "stuck" when they run into a rug on hard flooring. Due to my specific house, (and by no means a fault of the product) the space I can use them on is limited, but the product is still proving to be valuable to my cats. The easily broken wing and limited surface usability is a bit of a bummer, but the bugs are nice quality and I'm finding dual purpose in setting them free to startle my partner ;) ... show more
