The j hooks come completely unassembled but we’re simple to assemble and install. We used a hammer and a wrench in total as our tools. You’ll need some strength but I could make up for strength with the hammer. When I put both on my car the J was at the wrong angle for both my kayaks to fit on the roof. I couldn’t move them any further apart. I am 5’5” and needed a 3 step ladder to be tall enough to get the kayak on the J! I also couldn’t turn the kayak onto its side without help. I ended up having to use one set of Js, and lay the other kayak flat to fit on the roof of my RAV4. I can put the one that’s flat up by myself with just stepping inside the open door. I considered turning the hooks so that the short parts were inside but there was no way I could lift the kayaks OVER the long part of the j. ... show more

Product appeared to have been an open box. Product coverings had rust dust in them. Parts had some rust dust inside of tubing. One piece appeared to have been touched up with paint.
