I know we are supposed to purchase things locally but not with a $400.00 mark up for the same product!!! This was easy to install and was exactly what I needed! Only thing I would have appreciated is specific instructions for each filter instead of general instructions for all systems that are similar to the one I bought.     • Multi-part Review on the Hayward W3S270T

This will be a multi-part review: Part 1 = Shipping & Unboxing Received our Hayward WS270T sand filter today (Sat., 15 May 2021) that I ordered Wed., early evening 12 May 2021 with a projected delivery of 18-21 May 2021. So, with respect to shipping, I rate this as 5-stars (as to be expected with Amazon Shipping). Bonus: I started replacing the old sand filter with this new one a weekend ahead, while our pool water is just turning teal instead of what I expected to be dark green. The old filter had broken/cracked laterals and/or standpipe and we set the multi-port valve to "recirculate" instead of "filter" to keep our pool water from turning dark green. Why not set the old sand filter to "filter" while I waited for the new sand filter to come in? Because I have probably pushed about 10-20 lbs of sand into the pool - THE MAIN REASON, we know the standpipe and/or laterals are cracked/broken. BTW, I opt to replace the whole unit, instead of buying just the standpipe/laterals for the old filter because having NEW internal parts for the OLD filter will ultimately cost me more. How? Why? I will soon replace the multi-port valve, which means another cost in time and money. Not having to worry about doing anything for the pool but properly close/open it for the next 5-7 seasons is worth every penny we've spent instead of pinching pennies (just IMHO, take that for what it is worth and your personal situation). We did a personal video (not included in this review) because the box was indeed opened and re-taped (something I have read on other reviews). I wanted a video in the event I needed to return this item that costed us roughly $547 after taxes (keep in mind, prices may differ years from now). Upon inspection, everything looks fine and new (not refurbished or returned - we looked for signs of use everywhere); the smell of new is very apparent! This Hayward W3S270T came with the 1.5" Multiport valve along with all part included. Note: I thought the sight glass was missing, but it was inside the box. So, keep this in mind before tossing the box away. Now with that said, I looked everywhere, but the Plastic Air Tube is missing off the base of the stand pipe. After researching (Googled "pro series sand filter parts") we realized that the Plastic Air Tube is only part of the S210S, 244S, 310S filters. I read further down the .pdf form Hayward's website and found the S270T not having the Plastic Air Tube as listed on its part list. I know that the old filter I am replacing has this "air tube" because we replace the sand last year (2020), we washed and cleaned the stand pipe and laterals. I (dad) will ask the local pool store about this part, but for now I will give the unboxing of the Hayward WS270T a 5-star. My next update review below will be of installation and first month's use.     • Do Not Purchase From Pool Supply Warehouse!!!
Size: 1.5 Inch Valve
Beware, do not purchase this item if it's for sale from Pool Supply Warehouse. (See why at the end) The filter works great. I get a higher flow rate, better filtering and stronger pull from my vacuum over my old Pentair set up. My only complaint would be that it will be more difficult to swap out the sand when that time comes, as my old Pentair tank split in half and gave me better access to the inside, and this tank only has a 8 - 10 inch opening at the top for access. After hooking up the filter and plumbing the lines I noticed a few things. First make sure you put some silicone lube on the o-ring to prevent leaking at the tank-valve connection. I did not and no matter how well I tightened down the gasket, it leaked a bit at the small gap where the two parts of the gasket connected together. Secondly, the threaded inlets for the pump and return lines are out of tolerance by maybe a few hundredths of an inch. When I screwed in the threaded pipe couplers, they screwed all the way in until the there were no more threads to screw in and it never seemed to get very tight. Until I put some thread sealant on the threads of the fittings, I had some small leaks. Once I added the thread sealant and let it dry properly the leaks were gone. It's strongly suggested to add the sealant and PTFE tape to your threads anyway, but I wanted to see how tight the connections were first. My only other complaint is the location of the inlet for the pressure gauge. It's on the back side of the valve. I cannot see my tank pressure without having to walk all the way up to the filter and looking over and down the backside of the multi-port valve. I like to be able to see my pressure from a few feet away while I'm vacuuming or doing some other work/inspection on the pool. It's by no means a deal breaker for me, but it is a minor annoyance. All in all, it's probably the best filter for the price. The valve switches positions nicely, it looks good, and will probably last me at least a decade. Plus, Hayward parts are usually more readily available at the pool supply stores in my area and Pentair parts for my old filter always needed to be ordered and shipped by the pool store. I'll probably stick with Hayward parts from here on out On another note, I ordered this filter on May 5, and received it promptly from Pool Supply World on the 9th. However, I was missing the vari-flow valve and mounting bracket. I contacted Pool Supply World and after 17 emails, 2 promises of the item being shipped, and 24 days of waiting, I had to contact Hayward directly to see about getting the missing parts. I filed am A-Z claim on June 3rd and a request for refund a day or two later because PSW was no longer in contact with me. I never heard anything back from PSW, or Hayward even though they too claimed they would send out the missing part, and just assumed I was never receiving it. After finding out that it would be about $200 to ship the tank back for a refund, I purchased the valve and bracket locally at almost the cost of the entire filter system itself on Amazon. After installing everything and opening my pool, I was shocked to see the missing items on my front porch June 10th! I'm sure the issue was due to Hayward as it ships directly from them, but I gave my money to Pool Supply World, and while they seemed helpful at first, they failed miserably at getting my missing part in a timely manner. I still don't know if PSW shipped me the missing item, or if it was Hayward after I called them directly. I'm sure this is a 1 in 100 type of situation, but receiving the rest of my order 36 days after I ordered it and a lack of communication after the first week, and me needing to put forth all the effort to get my missing parts is just poor customer service. And given the cost of shipping to return an item like this, I would never purchase from Pool Supply World again and would encourage the same to everyone else. ... show more

Update: Vendor promptly replied to my message via amazon and got a replacement out in the mail today. So far so good. Will update once received. Was just dropped off, I unpacked and broken base. I will update this review after seller replies to my request for a replacement stand.
