This S900A Shaved Ice Machine by Hawaiian Shaved Ice is the perfect home-use appliance to make shaved ice, snow cones, snowballs, slushies, margaritas, and much more. Fun and easy to use! With its 3-piece design, you can assemble the machine in a matter of seconds. It comes with two ice molds to freeze ice, a non-slip mat, and instruction manual. To use, fill the reusable ice molds with water and let them freeze overnight to produce small, round blocks of ice. Next, allow the ice to thaw for 5-7 minutes before shaving. When the ice is thawed and easy to remove from the mold, place it into the ice crusher cup. Then, place the motor unit in position and gently press down on the motor assembly to shave a mound of soft fluffy snow from the dispenser right into your bowl or cup in the tray below. As you take the Ice Maker out of the box, you'll have to snap the two adjoining parts together, it's easy breezy! 1,2,3!! There is some work involved as you put the harden ice into the round center of the 🫙. You have to push down on the "ON" pad then hold the top part of the ice maker, it contains the motor, hold into the top part with some slight pressure as you push down onto the ice mold. Hold firmly as your pushing downward, stop when the top touches the bottom half. As the ice is shaved ,the motor will vibrate in your hands. But it's cold wet messy fun!!! Believe me, you'll soon be a PRO at shaving ice molds!!..ha ha...the grandkids love it! Arizona Summer time calls for lots of shaved ice fmsnow cones. first purchase was in july 2013 for my granddaughter, big hit! then three more at Christmastime, one for me, one for a girlfriend's daughter, and a fourth for some friend's teenage boys. hits all the way around. i love shaved ice, with or without syrup. hawaiian ice sells replacement blades on their website: i have not found them offered for sale anywhere else, and wanted to, because their shipping is exorbitant, so high they should be embarrassed, but their ice shaver is awesome. january 20 2014 update: i got replacement blades (they are not thin like a razor blade, but a thickish piece of metal that tapers to an edge) to have on hand to use in the future, and extra cups to freeze the discs, which, btw, come three to an order. i ordered three and received nine, so that was a pleasant surprise. :) a comment about the leftover ice that cannot be shaved when the frozen disc of ice is used in the machine, a 3" diameter disc of ice that is about 1/4 inch thick. i have read complaints about this being a wasted chunk of ice, but i keep them, put the remaining piece of the disc in the freezer in a bag, and use them to cool down drinks that are in large cups, or to cool down brewed tea for iced tea. i consider having the leftover discs a bonus! i buy snow cone concentrate from Ralph's SnoBall Supply and make cavity/bacteria killing snow cone syrups with xylitol granules, a sugar alcohol sweetener, so every snow cone is a treatment for my teeth. you can even buy some of the concentrates that are clear, eliminating dye, but there are still the preservatives. they also sell syrups pre-made with cane sugar and charge reasonable prices for them, but i buy the concentrates to be able to use different sweeteners. xylitol is also diabetic friendly, and it doesn't taste fake, just good, and i usually HATE artificial sweeteners. i made some syrups with cane sugar this weekend for my grandkids to take home, or you can use stevia or whatever floats your boat. i am not using the xylitol to save on calories, but it does that as well. each 4-ounce bottle of sample concentrate yields a gallon of syrup. i make my syrups about a cup at a time. they are awesome tasting and making them with xylitol keeps cavity-causing bacteria out of my mouth. so fast, so easy, so cost-effective, so good. :)

My mother and I purchased this machine for our annual family reunions. Our family was delighted as it was ridiculously hot that day! We practiced making the shaved ice beforehand. I took charge of shaving the ice at the reunion. Here are the pros and cons, tips and my general opinion. Pros 1. The quality of the ice was very nice. Much better than just crushed. 2. The machine is simple in design. You push down on a block of ice while a single blade rotates to shave the ice into a cup. 3. Held up well. It didn't seem to mind us making 30 servings in a row. Cons 1. You MUST use the containers that are included to preform your ice for shaving. You cannot use ice cubes at all. My mother used some Smart Spin containers to suppliment our ice making and they didn't work as well, but they were not a total waste either. 2. A good 15 percent of your ice block will not shave. You have to dump the machine upside down to remove it so you can add another block. Adding another block of ice on top of it does NOT work. When you push down on the top of the machine to shave the ice, the top holds the ice block in place so the rotating blade can shave it. When there are different layers of ice, the bottom layer just spins around with the blade and nothing is shaved. 3. There is no place for storing shaved ice. This is not unusual. In Hawaii they shaved the ice after placing your order. 4. It is too short to overfill the cup with ice. It will only fill to just over the edge of the included paper cones. TIPS: 1. Find a utensil for removing the ice block easily before putting it into heavy usage. 2. Have another cone or rounded cup ready after filling the cone cup with shaved ice as much as you can. Fill the other cone or rounded cup with ice and turn it upside down on top of the paper cone. It looks much nicer! 3. Make some of your own syrups. My mother make a wonderful pink lemonade flavor with Kool-Aid. It was very easy. 4. Refridgerate your syrups or they will melt a good portion of your ice when you add it to your cone. If you are going to be outdoors in the heat, keep them in a small handy cooler with ice. We chilled ours beforehand, but they warmed up quickly. 5. Keep paper towels or real towels handy to clean up the mess (water) as you go. We are pretty happy with our purchase, but wish it had cost a little less. My kids LOVED it and wanted it to come home with us (we live 700 miles away).

I should really say, "My husband loves it!" He's a big kid, and he wanted to make shaved ice at home. So we got it. Aaaaand...we like it. He really thinks it's the bee's knees. I think it's shaved ice. The cups that come with it are chintzy. The straws that come with it are kind of cool, and not cost-effective. They sent along two plastic bowls that are good for making the right amount of ice, if you could actually stick them into the freezer...but they don't have lids. If you go into the freezer before they are frozen solid, you may be unhappily surprised. The flavors...I only like red, the rest are bizarre. He loves them. I love him. If he wants them, he can have them. I didn't think we needed one, but if it makes him happy, we'll have one. Even if it takes up space when not in use, which is most of the time. I liked having the option of getting the accessories and flavorings so we could have our own Hawaiian Shaved Ice and Snow Cone Machine Party at home. It was a dull party, just the two of us, on the couch, eating snow cones. We should have thought to use some of the cups for party hats. So, have yourself a party. This was not a review where I got money off or the item for free, but I did use my Amazon Visa points, so we paid nothing for it, and got it on Prime with the free shipping. We had nothing to lose, since we could get free shipping to send it back. What the heck, sometimes you just gotta go wild and have a snow cone party, even if you're a senior citizen.

We were looking for an ice shaver in order to make "copos" for a Girl Scout World Thinking Day event. My daughter traveled to Costa Rica where she enjoyed "copos," and she wanted to share the experience. We needed to make enough shaved ice for about 30 people in a short time span, and we were able to do so easily. We had spent time looking at reviews online for many different machines. Many of those centered around the quality of the shaved ice: "snow" quality being good, and "ice chips" being bad, and upon the time it takes to shave the ice down. This machine scores well on both accounts. We were able to move girls through the line quickly, and the machine was able to keep up. The shaved ice was very "snow" like and worked really well for the "copos." As other reviews have noted, you do have to use the plastic forms provided with the machine to freeze your ice into extra thick "hockey pucks." We do not have a refrigerator that makes ice, so it was really no different than when we have a party at our house and have to plan to freeze ice cubes ahead and place them in a Ziplock bag. It is also true, as mentioned in other reviews, that it cannot shave all the way down on the "hockey puck." Clearly, you don't want parts of your machine scraping against the blade. That would be bad. So, it was no problem to use a pair of plastic tongs to pull out the thin disc of ice left behind. We just stuck those into our ice bucket in the freezer and re-purposed them. The flavorings that come with the party package were perfectly tasty. However, we also did a DIY syrup of lemon/lime from Kool-Aid mix that came out just as well though. So, you might want to buy just the machine if you are handy in the kitchen or just cheap like me. We have used the machine a couple of times since our Girl Scout event. We did some grown-up drinks and we gave some shaved ice to my daughter when she was sick and was having trouble keeping down even water. It worked great. My husband is excited about using it the next time we do shrimp cocktail for keeping it cold (a suggestion in the owner's manual). I have a feeling we will be using this more often than I had imagined when I bought it.
