LOVE this waffle maker!! Nothing sticks! My fresh milled waffles did amazing and it’s just the easiest thing to pull out and then stow away. Compact and made well. The waffles do cook from the middle of the pan outward, I think they brown well, I don’t love a crunchy waffle but these can get there easily. It heats quickly and holds the temp well. Plates aren’t removable but it’s not an issue because everything comes off clean!

Excellent waffle maker right out the box. Made a huge double batch of waffles as soon as I got it. Use about a cup of batter, turn it to max and let it cook for about 4-5 minutes, perfect golden brown every time. I freeze them on a cookie sheet and pack them away for a fast breakfast. Really compact so it fits in a corner of my cupboard. Exactly what I needed since my dad wouldn't part with the family waffle maker, but he did give me a copy of the family recipe.

Works well but temp gauge is imprecise

I’ve been using this waffle maker about 4x week for the last 2 months. It replaced a VillaWare Waffler that lasted for more than 20 years. This unit works reasonably well after some trial and error. My two primary tips are 1) don’t overfill it. About 75-80% full of batter turns out nice full waffles. 2) Ignore the temp/doneness slider. It isn’t precise enough to trust. I just use a kitchen timer. Wait for the waffle iron to heat up (green light on top), pour in the batter and the. 2.5-3 mins later waffles are done. I’ve gotten much more consistent results with these two points. The unit is significantly lighter than the comparably sized VillaWare we used to use, so we’ll see how it holds up, but so far so good.

Simple, quick, and easy to use

I really like how simple this waffle maker is. It heats up quickly and makes waffles fast, which is great for busy mornings. I usually add a little butter to my waffle batter to help prevent the waffles from sticking, and that works well for me. The waffles come out nicely golden, and the waffle maker has been very convenient for quick breakfasts at home. Overall, I’m very happy with it.

Big Beautiful Belgian Waffles

This is exactly what I wanted. It makes 4 big belgian waffles and has easy to read green light when its ready. There were cheaper waffle makes but they were available in droves on the second hand market. I've learned the hard way that buying cheap won't be good in the long run. This is a beautiful appliance that will serve me well.

It works

I regret not returning this during the first 30 days. It works OK, but there are probably better choices available. I should note that this was my first experience with non-stick. I've always used cast iron and was using a cast iron waffle iron that had been in my family since World War II, but for health reasons I wanted to cut back on oil so I ordered this and some non-stick fry pans. The irony about this non-stick waffle maker is that it's not really non-stick! I wanted to avoid using oil in my cooking, but I ended with a waffle iron that requires a spray, which is oil. It's especially puzzling that the instructions call for using nonstick spray because the instructions for the Circulon Contempo nonstick frying pans that I bought at the same time say not to use nonstick spray. In fact using nonstick spray voids the warranty on the fry pans. So why is it required on this waffle maker? It does a decent job of making waffles, although as other reviewers have noted, it cooks unevenly. It's also more of a nuisance to clean than my nearly 75 year old waffle cast iron waffle maker. Waffles stick less in the cast iron and the cast iron has fewer tight spaces to clean than on the Hamilton Beach. The waffles are exactly 3/4" thick, which is the maximum thickness I'd want. Some reviewers have complained about the lack of an indicator for when the waffles are finished cooking, but it's really not necessary. Just watch the steam. When steam begins to thin, the waffles are done. Overall, it's not bad waffle iron. It does the job. It's my first experience with a non-stick waffle iron, so I don't know how it compares with others. I'm on the fence between buying another non-stck waffle maker or returning to cast iron, which to my surprise is easier to clean than this waffle maker.

GREAT 4x5 WAFFLE MAKER !!!!

This Hamilton Beach (model #26009) Waffle Maker (Proctor Silex is the same company) is really great! It makes evenly cooked, light and fluffy, crisp one-inch waffles (3.5 inches x 4.5 inches in size). The non-stick coating works perfectly and the unit's small size guarantees even heating will not be a problem. (The 4x5 in the title of this review refers to the number of depressions in the waffle. Traditionally, 3x5 is a Brussels Waffle, 4x6 is a Liege Waffle. Both are Belgian. Most waffle makers in the U.S. are either round or square, not rectangular. Ergo, they cannot produce Belgian Waffles. But this Hamilton Beach model is as close as I could get. Unless I spend $800 on a 50lb. cast iron unit from a restaurant supply company. Not likely.) Of course, creating a great waffle depends on more than just the waffle maker. For instance, I always brush on a light coating of refined almond oil (smoke point = 495 degrees F.) before the first batter-pour**. If I smell burning oil smoke before the ready-light goes on, I reduce the temperature. With this unit, I set the min/max knob to max. When the pre-heat light went on (after 4 minutes), the oil was just starting to smoke. I poured the batter into the center of the left 4x5 space and then the center of the right space, finishing off any corners the batter had not yet reached. Once the batter touches the grid, the temperature drops and the smoke, if any, stops immediately. Closing and locking the cover presented no problem. Steam started shooting out right away. Steam is 212 degrees F. so smoke has no chance at this point. As this unit has no built-in timer, but asks you to watch for diminishing steam levels, I just set my own timer to 7 minutes (I use whole grain flours and they always take a little longer to cook). Seven minutes later, an absolutely perfect set of two waffles emerged. They lifted out with a toothpick and slid right out onto my waiting serving plate. Then I poured in the remaining batter, set the timer for another 7 minutes and ate a set of fantastic waffles (after adding fresh blueberries and powdered sugar over them). ** Whipping egg whites in a separate bowl is a must. Mix yolks, sugar, milk, butter, vanilla, salt (unless its in the butter), and flour, in that order, until smooth. Dump in the whipped egg whites and fold the batter over the egg whites (look up folding on your own - the better you do it, the better your waffle will be). This kind of batter does not run much. Unlikely you'll have any trouble with over-pouring problems. Also, notice there's no baking powder or baking soda in the batter. No yeast, either. None are needed. The whipped egg whites do it all.
