My package appeared to have been opened previously with minor scuff marks and prints on the unit. No protective film or packaging. This is a replacement for an old mercury based mechanical thermostat that covers my basement zone. Electrical connection is made to a 2 wire cable. The previous thermostat mounted to a wood panel on the cinder block wall with the wire coming down from the top. This Emerson Digital model has a rectangular hole on the back but no provision for routing the cable from the top. So I mounted it to an electrical box with matching holes and provision to run the cable in from the top. Not a pretty solution, but quite acceptable for a basement wall. The only electrical modification was to clip an electric jumper on the main board for operation with a water based boiler—explained in the owner’s manual. Operation is simple. Just set the temp using the up/down arrows and the boiler should do the rest. There’s a simple off/heat switch if you want to disable the thermostat. The display panel would be easier to read if there was a backlight. It gets the job done. ... show more

This thermostat is awesome. It kept our camper at a perfect temperature. With the other manual thermostat would inconsistently heat to the point over overheating everyone and was really finicky. The new one is easy to use and works well in the camper and easy to install.

I like the simple design and appearance and it works as expected. I have put it in series (heat wire pass-thru) with another thermostat to limit aa senior with dementia from excessively raising the heat to 80+. For my purpose it was a great choice.
