I tried many different coffee makers recently. My old Hamilton Beach Scoup one cup finally got old and I just wanted to get another maker. I was given a famous one cup brand and asked the person to take it back because it did not make coffee strong enough. I tried another brand, a 5 cup. It would make one cup less than the amount of water I put in it. So I went on a research project and found this Hamilton Beach had great reviews. I am very very happy. My coffee is strong, it can make 12 cups but I only make 10 (which is 5 in my mug) and it work like a charm! I love listening to it percolating like an old timey coffee pot! I decided to buy a white coffee maker to match my kitchen appliances. I've always had a black one. This coffee maker is quite loud while brewing and takes longer to brew than any other coffee maker I've had in the past. Also, it it made of cheaper plastic which does not self dry (inside canister) well plus it stains the pot top and inside/around the canister. I have to clean it all daily. It is programmable which I'm happy with but I also wish the clock face would light up so see it well. ... show more

This has everything I was looking for: 2 hour automatic shut-off, a bold brew option (meaning you use less coffee yet get maximum effect), easy-pour, easy-clean, no-nonsense (meaning you don't need to be a computer programmer to operate this), and it looks great. You can set it to turn on, but if that's not your preference, this is basically a push-one-button operation. I prefer to set my coffee up the night before, then when getting up I push the ON button. There are 3 options: bold, not bold, and 1-4 cup setting), plus if you're impatient, you can grab a cup early. "Perkatory" is the time waiting for coffee to brew! Some people complain that their coffee makers are too loud. If that's you, this one if pretty quiet. The only improvement I'd like to see is the lettering for the cups, not on the carafe but on the maker itself. They are hard to read, and I drew a line to the point I normally make. We got the white one, which is quite attractive. I suppose you could spend twice as much for a coffee-maker, but I can't imagine it being any better than this one. *Update: I like bold coffee, but even when coffee-makers have that feature I usually end up having to add extra coffee. On this one, I'm adding less, and getting a full, rich, bold cup. So I'm saving on coffee and getting a better cup! ... show more

    • Biggest disappointment

Not sure where the good reviews come from. This is not one. I have never had any problem with any of my Hamilton Beach products. However, this coffeemaker has a major design flaw. The water sprays into the coffee filter basket very forcefully and therefore sprays coffee and coffee grounds around leaving a big mess inside the water reservoir as well as coffee grounds ending up in the actual brewed coffee. It also leaves water from a crap load of condensation in the water reservoir which ultimately will create mildew. Maybe the good reviews are due to a black coffee maker and it's not noticable. But I purchased the white model and it looks disgustingly dirty without wiping the inside constantly. I am so very disappointed with the current quality of this Hamilton Beach product. I am unable to return the item because I threw out the original manufacturer packaging and Amazon will not except return without it. So here I am without a refund and without a good cup of coffee. Please do not buy this product unless you want to eat coffee grounds for breakfast ... show more
