Directions: Software Installation We recommend that you install the software BEFORE plugging your Halo in for the first time. The software can be downloaded fromby following the instructions on the screen. On completion you will be prompted to register your Halo for the warranty; please enter the relevant details on the screen. Once the registration is complete, please connect your Halo to an available USB port on your computer and leave to charge. Recharging Before using your Halo for the first time, it will need to be charged for 3 ½ hours. Battery symbol will appear on the display when the battery is running low with the message “Battery Low”. To recharge the battery, plug the USB cable into the back of the Halo and into an available USB port on your computer. During the charging cycle, the display will switch off. To see if the battery has finished charging, press the start button and the display screen will inform you if it is “charging” or “charged”. Please note that a fully discharged battery will take 3 ½ hours to fully recharge. A full battery symbol will appear on the display when the battery is fully charged. Scanning To start your Halo scanner, simply push the on/off symbol on the back of the panel and release. The display will show “Halo Scanner Scanning” and the scanner will emit a single beep. If no valid microchip is found within 20 seconds, then the display will show “No Tag Found” and the scanner will again emit a single beep. To start scanning again just press the on/off symbol again. The outer surface of your Halo is the scanning area and when a valid microchip is found the scanner will emit a double beep and the microchip number will be shown on the display. As the Halo is Scanner Angel® compatible, if the microchip has been reported as missing to Scanner Angel®, the display will also show “Reported missing by…” and will give the organization’s name and phone number for you to call and report that you have scanned this animal. If there is no activity, your Halo will automatically switch off after 40 seconds. Cleaning Your Halo should never be immersed in liquid or placed in any sterilization equipment. It can be wiped with an antibacterial wipe.

The Halo Scanner read the chips on all of my pets, including one with a 10-year-old AVID chip. It displayed both the 15 and 9 digit chip numbers correctly. The range was good, the scanner did not have to be particularly close before it picked up the chips. It found them quickly.

It will scan almost all types of microchips. I know, because I tried it on more than two types of chips. It doesn't need batteries because it already has one inside and it's rechargeable. It's so handy when you get a dog or cat that comes over needing help.

July 27, 2024. I have 5 dogs and all are chipped. This scanner read all but one of my dog's chip. I know for a fact she is chipped because she is from the National Yorkie Rescue group and her foster mom was present when the chip was inserted last August, 2023. Plus I have all the chip related paper work. Even if an older chip was possibly inserted, the scanner should at least indicate the presences of a microchip. So this is disappointing. Also I contacted the seller on the day I got it (July 17, 2024) to address the issue, but they have not gotten back to me. ... show more

This scanner does what it's supposed to with little fuss. I compared it directly with one of the cheaper scanners that an associate ordered from Amazon and the big usability difference is the display. On the cheaper one, the numbers were very small and a little hard to read and the overall unit is MUCH smaller than the Halo. The Halo uses a LCD screen with much larger characters, so reading it is much easier. When I ordered the Halo, the product package was a little aged. There was none of the plastic overwrap you would expect on a new product and the scanner itself was just loose in the box, no other packaging. The scanner itself has many light scratches and scuffs which don't affect its usability, it's just obviously used. If there was any doubt that it wasn't "factory fresh", the fact that it had a whole bunch of scanned IDs already in memory would make it obvious. I didn't try to exchange it for a new one because I needed it immediately and it doesn't really matter. It would be scuffed and scratched in a few weeks anyway. I didn't take off any ratings for it not being a new item because the review is for the product, not the seller. ... show more
