  • My frogs love this!
Size: 8QT
These are just perfect for my frogs' terrarium. No, I don't have my frogs on these directly; rather, I use this as the sub layer below my choir soil layer to help with water regulation and humidity. Here's how I set up the terrarium: (note: before I get into this setup, please understand that I am no expert on amphibian terrariums. I'm just a person with kids that has some tree frogs. We have a humidifier that automatically keeps the humidity level at least 65 degrees Fahrenheit, a heater to keep the temperature just over 70 degrees Fahrenheit, and other than that and a few videos I've watched online, I use an educated guess and check system for everything else. And by "guess and check," my "check" is to see if any of the frogs' behaviors change. For instance, they might be just sitting on a rock or ledge all day long, hardly moving, and waiting for food to walk by if they're unhappy, or they are active, exploring, and looking for places to hide if they are happy. It's a very stark contrast.) 1) I pout the layer of Leca clay pebbles down at the bottom of my terrarium. 2) I cover it with a membrane that will allow water to pass through but will not allow the upper layers to fall through to the rocks. 3) I use a damp choir soil layer on top of the membrane. 4) Treating the choir soil like my terrarium's floor, I put everything on top: plants (real and artificial), a small pond, and some rocks and caves for hiding. I have observed that since using the clay pebbles, the humidity in the tank has consistently stayed in the low 70s, and the water level in my humidifier has been almost unchanged. It keeps it so much more humid in there without me having to even do anything. And the frogs? It's hard to find them in there, so they must love it. I should have used these long ago. ... show more

  • Great quality leca balls
Size: 8QT
Eight quarts of clay balls, leca. Around 4 to 16 mm across. They're awesome for your pets' beds and also work great for growing plants. I got these to mix into my plants soil mixture to make it chunkier to help improve air flow. This helps prevent root rot, prolonging the health of my plants. They're made from natural clay, baked hot, so they're solid, won't fall apart or give off any smell or contaminates. They help drain the soil and the soil breathes better. They got little holes that let water out and air in. They hold moisture well, these are perfect for reptile tanks or plant pots because they soak up water quick, keep it, and then slowly release it to keep the humidity right. These leca pellets are tough and don't make much dust, so your pet can breathe easier. They get rid of bad smells, so your pet's home stays nice and fresh. Also keeps your plants smelling fresh too. Easy to clean, just rinse the clay pebbles before using them. You can clean and dry them to use again. It's a healthy setup for your reptiles and plants. This eight quarts was plenty to help fill my 30quart soil mix. I like really chunky mix for my tropical plants. The price is amazing, I would definitely order again. Some where a little smashed in the bag. I would say about 2% but its ok for my plant mixture. ... show more

  • Versatile Clay Pebbles That Work Great for Tropical Plants
Size: 8QT
I’ve been using these clay pebbles for my tropical plants rather than for reptiles, and they work very well for that purpose. They create a great drainage layer in pots, helping prevent water from sitting at the roots and reducing the risk of overwatering. The pebbles are clean, lightweight, and easy to work with when repotting. They’ve helped improve airflow and moisture balance in my planters, which is especially important for humidity-loving plants. ... show more

  • Versitile & Planter Friendly
Size: 8QT
Used for drainage in my houseplants. Pebbles are consistent in size and after a good rinse they are mostly dust-free. Great for growing plants in water.

  • Good quality, but a bit dusty and pricey
Size: 8QT
This is good quality leca with little to no odor. Its a regular deep reddish brown color and the pieces average about 1/4-3/4" in size. They looks nice and will make a nice drainage layer for a terrarium. The bag has a fair amount of moisture in it, so there isn't any *visible* dust, however you can *feel* dust when you handle it, so it does need to be rinsed to remove the dust, it also seems a bit pricey to me. ... show more

  • Good amount , works well
Size: 8QT
I use leca as a drainage layer in smaller terrariums, and in plants , usually in water but sometimes in the bottom as a drainage layer for them too . This is a good size bag of leca . I’m impressed with the amount and will have more than enough for a few different projects I didnt Have a lot of breakage , so most are ball shaped as they should be . The occasional break is normal though. They do float , or rather most of them do . That’s normal , it means there is air pockets in them , also as there should be . So if you want them submerged , they’ll have to be soaked with something holding them down under the water . Overall I’m really happy with this bag. They work well for many uses . If I had A larger project like a large lizard tank, and wanted a thick layer . Then I’d prob get more than one bag though . ... show more

  • Great quality clay balls - good for plants too!
Size: 8QT
Even though these are meant for reptile terrariums, I got them to use for rooting and propagating plants, and they’ve been holding up really well. The balls are a nice, even size and flow easily when wet, which means there’s good airflow and plenty of little air bubbles. If you want them to absorb more water, it helps to soak them for a bit first. They hold moisture nicely without getting mushy, and based on the size and texture, they should do great long term. Overall, a solid, good-value bag for either reptiles or plant lovers! ... show more
